Chapter 58 - Memories

After Mary finished eating, she took the black shirt with her. She pulled out her scissor while walking to the corner of a room. She sat down in the corner and began to cut the shirt.

Lucius, who was holding a sandwich in his hand saw Mary hiding in the corner. He tilted his head to the side and hissed at her, curiously but she didn't seem to acknowledge his call as she continued to do her things without a single reaction.

Lucius felt he was ignored, he pushed his body up with his hands and crawled toward her while gently using his tail to slither. If he was a human, he would be on his four now, crawling on the floor like a baby.

As Lucius crawled, his long and sharp fingernails hit the wooden floor causing an unknown sound. Mary felt a shiver up her spine and immediately turned back to look for the sound. She saw Lucius sitting close behind her, his body blocked all the lights, leaving her in his shadow.

When Mary noticed Lucius was behind her, she hastily pushed Lucius back. Lucius hissed in pain when Mary accidentally pushed on his abdomen, where his wounds weren't healed.

"I'm so sorry!" Mary yelled, nervously and apologetically while Lucius pushed her hands away with one of his hands and his other hand blocked his wounds."I was startled by an unknown sound."

Lucius tilted his head again and hissed at her confused.

"Oh...well... the sound sounded like something tapping on the wooden floor."

Lucius stared at her, his head still tilting until he raised his hand and saw his fingernails. He then tapped on the wooden floor, gently.

"Yeah, that sound...Wait!So it was you?"

Lucius nodded.

"Your nails really are long."

He smiled while looking at her. Then, he pointed at something behind her. Mary turned to look behind her and saw the black shirt.

"Oh, that?"She said, nervously."It's nothing. Really! Don't look at me like that!"

Lucius was frowning while looking at her, he knew she was hiding something from him as her reaction was unusually off. He then switched his gaze to the shirt. Mary knew he was feeling very suspicious of her, she need to switch his attention.

"Lucius!"She called, her voice came out a little louder than expected causing Lucius to flinch. "Sorry about that. Have you finished your meal yet?"

He switched his gaze to his food and crawled to it. He continued eating his half-eaten sandwich while smiling, brightly. He had forgotten about the shirt. Mary sighed and noticed a chocolate cake on his tray.

She approached it and sat next to Lucius. She took the cake and Lucius saw it. He looked at her and to the cake. He pointed to the cake.

"Hm? Do you not know what is it?"Mary asked.

He nodded.

"I can't believe you don't know this...It's a chocolate cake."

He stared at it and got his face close to it. He sniffed it and he looked at Mary, his eyes sparkling. He suddenly reached his hand out to seize it but missed. Mary already predicted his movement from his sparkling eyes.

Lucius stared at Mary, confused. He reached his hand out to grab it but Mary dodged and stretched her hand up high. He stretched his hand as well, Mary didn't expect him to be able to reach it but he definitely could, his height was the same as Mary even when he was sitting down. As he was close to getting the cake, Mary stepped backward. Lucius looked at Mary with an upset look but Mary wasn't going to fall for it. When Lucius noticed his trick wasn't working, he crawled closer to her.

Mary kept going back while he followed. Until Lucius grabbed Mary's hem, Mary was shocked, she couldn't move further away or else her shirt would be ripped.

"That's unfair!"Mary yelled while Lucius smug at her.

He continued to reach for the cake, one of his hands was still grabbing Mary's shirt while the other desperately reached for the cake. Mary pushed Lucius's face away with one hand while the other was holding the cake.

Mary felt this scene was familiar, it made her remember the past when nothing like this had happened. She was still in her old house with her adorable little brother. She still remembered the memory so clearly as if it was yesterday. It was the time when her brother wanted to help her with cooking. He took a knife before Mary could stop him and when she snatched it back. Her brother desperately reached out his hand to take it, just like what Lucius is doing right now.

As she continued to be in her thoughts, she smiled but suddenly Lucius clutched onto his abdomen and hissed as if he was in pain. Mary's smile faded away as she instantly put the cake down. She got onto her knees and examined him.

"Lucius! Are you alright? Did I hurt you?"She asked, afraid of what might happen.

But suddenly Lucius stopped and snatched the cake that was beside Mary. He shoved it in his mouth while smiling, victories at Mary. Mary kneeled there, stunned by his sudden recovery.

"Eh? You...What?"Mary was stunned to even form a sentence until she noticed what he did. Mary glared at him while she said in a low tone."You...Damn...Smart...Idiot!"She yelled at the last of her words causing Lucius to flinch.

He knew Mary was extremely enraged by his actions. He hastily turned around and as he was about to crawl. He felt something grab the tip of his tail. He turned around and saw Mary's furious expression.

"Don't you dare think about escaping from me!"Lucius flinched again at her words and quickly craved something on the floor. He pointed his words to Mary.

I'm only half. He wrote.

"So what if you're half! You still have the same system as them! And chocolates are poisonous to them, they will die when they eat it!"

Lucius accepted his defeat, knowing that Mary will give him a lecture no matter what. After being scolded and pinched on his cheek, Mary was finally tired and sat there, still angry at him. Lucius rubbed his cheeks, sadly while whimpering like an upset puppy. Mary continued to ignore him.

Lucius looked around the room, sadly and saw his unfinished meal. He went back there and continued eating as if nothing happened. Mary saw him, happily eating his meal and sighed.

He never learns, does he?
