"I, I've never killed anyone. I only say stuff like that for scare tactics. it makes it easier for me to steal without much force. please I'm telling you the truth. don't, don't take my soul beast away from me. she's my awakened soul beast. I'm begging you kid."
he said with tears.
"not good enough." Damon thrusted the dagger forward into an already open wound on the spider's chest as it was laying on its side.
pschhhh! breaking through its already damaged exoskeleton he twisted and turned the blade upward and to the left the man's soul beast couldn't and didn't put up much of a fight as its body jolted. just like the last one what was left of its legs began curling up to its chest as it stopped moving and the few eyes it had left closed.
"nooooooooooo." the man shouted. suddenly a red and black aura began glowing and pulsating around his body like a heartbeat. small energy particles of his aura began floating upwards disappearing into nothing.
the man reached and reached desperately trying to catch and pull back in the small particles that looked like red and black fireflies floating away. "noooooooo, huuuuuusk come back to me. huuuuuuuusk" he yelled sobbing with tears. husk was the name of the red huntsman spider.
he cared about the other one as well but husk was his primary soul beast while the other one was a wild beast he bonded a part of his soul with. husk dying meant the thief was now a broken soul. A broken soul was basically a soul master with no soul beasts. when one becomes a broken soul they lose half of their power and it's known to be irreversible. they can no longer bond a part of their souls with beasts but will still maintain their original soul beast ability but to a much lesser degree.
for soul masters in a world of beast taming becoming a broken soul was considered worse than death. broken souls could not become a member of a guild or anything dealing with soul masters. they were treated worse than homeless people and were considered a waste in many people's eyes.
Damon watched carelessly as the man balled up in a ball and cried while calling him a monster with no heart.
"if stopping you from stealing and taking people's hard earned things makes me a monster then so be it. you wouldn't have had any remorse for me if I allowed you to get what you wanted. Don't try and make me out as the bad guy. you started it and I finished it.
I would end you as well, however I think this punishment fits better. my recovery mist has helped you survive." he said turning his back on the man walking towards vora who was waiting a good distance away. as he got further away the man pulled himself to his feet by grabbing on to a tree. he was still bleeding heavily but forced himself up as the misty rain stopped.
"heeeey my name is Gavin, remember my name rainmaker. remember my naaaaaame. he shouted in anger. one day I'll return the favor rainmaker." he said in a low tone to himself.
"took you long enough I finished off those two guys Javalin was fighting ten minutes ago. she was outnumbered seven to one. how could you let her fight outnumbered like that. you're lucky they all were complete ass when it came to fighting or you could have ended up like that guy back there. I've learned a little about your race from Alice and that was dangerous Damon.
Damon admitted it was very dumb of him to put Javalin in that situation. he wasn't thinking about the possibility of them having more than two soul beasts. and definitely wasn't thinking about Javalin losing. he kinda felt bad after Vora scolded him a little about it. she was right about what he allowed to happen. they would have been better off fighting together.
Vora had seen Damon's rain storm and heard Javalin explosions. she had ordered kimbo and the others to continue waiting for blane and Tara to return while she went to check on Damon. vora wasn't the type to drill things into people heads. she said what she had to say to Damon and left it at that.
"My daughter, I mean Javalin would have been fine. if the opponent would have had a chance of defeating her she would have returned to you. " shield says adding in his thoughts.
"I knew it, I thought you said something like that before. so Javalin is not just some beast you gave me. she's your blood. I figured she was some kin to you because of the name of her attacks. obsidian, and your power deals with obsidian. I just didn't think she was your daughter." Damon said with a shocked face.
"what's wrong with you, you look like you saw something. oh nothing I had just realized something that's all. " he said to vora who saw his facial expression.
"oh we gotta talk about this later. I'm not letting this go. also I have a message from monsoon. I will tell you later about that as well.
they soon returned to the area they were in before. kimbo had made it into a camp with rocky walls around it. they had a low lit fire going and was currently cooking. it was still day time around noon.
"we will eat and continue to rest for an hour. Tara, blane. have you anything to report.
yes squad leader. a mile to the north is a great hill. looking from that hill we were able to spot a town a good distance away. it looks like it could be a challenge getting down so we searched for a way around the hill that will lead us into a wasteland area with canyons. from what we could tell its best if we go through the canyon area during daylight. so if we are going to keep moving I recommend we do it soon." Blane said.
Also squad leader there were many beasts within the area. we kept our distance from most but some may have followed us back. I'm not sure at all but it is possible squad leader. Tara added.
"good work. according to the map that town should be named coast city and it will be one of our check points. we will reach the city and take a full rest there. thank you for the heads up about that possibility Tara." she responded to them both.
vora brought out a twelve foot high and wide tent as a silver pendant with a wolf on it lit up purple. most if not all mongrels had some kind of accessory as their storage space which didn't go unnoticed by her team. this made kimbo believe Damon got the ring he used to store the beast earlier from someone in the mongrel race.
"so the storage space they have can store dead things it seems." kimbo thought.
Damon decided to eat alone as he took out dices of meat and dried mushrooms he got from old man butcher. he sat in his original spot by the swampy river leaning against the tree. he then decided to look at the notifications he received earlier.

while he ate the man name Gavin entered his mind. not because he felt guilty or bad for what he had done but because a thought came to his mind which shield cleared up rather quickly.
"you can never become a broken soul. your powers are not because of a beast like others. that man was a fool. prime and experience soul masters never fight with their primary beast after obtaining others for that simple reason. you can't become a broken soul if your primary beast do not die. I'm not saying they won't fight their primary beast but you best believe if they do it's because of two things. either they are planning to die or they simply see no other way.
why put your primary soul beast at risk when you can use the wild beasts you bonded your soul with, or you can simply work hard and not rely on your beast but it's powers. A soul master gains their power from a beast they awaken. soul masters in my time did not release their primary beasts so freely especially if they could handle whatever situation themselves.
take sir hughes for example. he had his son calvus on a soul beast restriction. meaning he can't use or summon his soul beast for absolutely nothing. maybe if he's for sure about to perish but other than that his father does not allow it and for good reason.
only idiots like that man back there put all his faith and power into a beast instead of himself. for what reason did he have to summon his primary soul beast when he could perform the same type of attacks and use its skills without it being summoned." shield said in length
All of this made Damon think very hard. come to think of it he had never seen his father soul beast. not once not ever. his father relied on the powers the soul beast provided him with and grew them himself.
"So I should stop using Javalin in battle. hell no shield replied. my daughter, now that you know is not a real soul beast as you should know by now. I'll explain in great detail about me and her. after all I did make it a quest for you to evolve before my departure. I believe the rewards were more information about me so I will keep my word. shield said.
