Chapter 9 - 9- The bond between soulmates

The senseless screaming, the endless painful nights, the constant torture of trying to hold himself and to be a captor of himself. He held himself in, battling the insanity that was eating him up alive. He was stuck in a loop of self torture; three years he spent torturing himself, keeping his distance from her. The pain was too much even for the one they called Omega Nightmare. The vicious nightmare of every wolf was himself getting tortured and the reason was one. Her. The one destined to be his and cursed to be not. He spent three years locked up in the boundaries of his room, hurting himself; the pain made him come back to his senses. To keep himself in line. To not go after her for if he did that would be the end of her.

Faye just sat there frozen in her space. She knew what he had felt as she had gone through the same torture for past two years. Her eyes stayed glued to the screen as tears fled down her cheeks. She felt anger, sadness and a sense of relief, to know that she wasn't the only one who had these feelings who was lost and being tortured by her on delusions and thoughts. The curse didn't work one way, it was placed on both of them, to keep them apart and longing for each other.

"Why are you showing me this?" She asked.

"Because I watched him go through it." David said as he walked over and sat beside her on the floor. "I was five when he was doing this to himself and trust me it was horrifying to live within these conditions. For my safety concerns he sent me away to a boarding school. He didn't even visit me once during those three years. But then suddenly out of nowhere he brought me back home" He sighed as he paused the videos playing on the screen. "I don't know what happened but he reached out to you again. Seeing you again put his mind at ease, I believe that was the case with you too?"

David looked at her and she lightly nodded her head. Faye remembered that one year she spent waiting for Hale. A whole year she spent in complete loneliness and insanity. Her mental state had gone downhill, half of the time she spent in her room during that year was not even in her memory anymore but she got back up after Hale finally visited her that night. There was no explanation to it other than that incident being a mystical supernatural thing.

"He went back to his normal self. The point I'm trying to make here is simple, he is not keeping his distance from you yo get a kick out of it, he is actually trying to protect you."

"Protect me from me from what? He keeps saying that he'll lose me if he gets closer to me. I'm trying so…. hard to play along with this" Tear started to dwell up in her eyes. "... but I just can't anymore, it's overbearing and I feel like I may go crazy if this keeps up."

"You'll die." They both got startled as they heard the husky voice from behind as they turned to find Hale standing in the doorway. They both felt scared and surprised as if they were caught trying to steal candy.

"David, go to your room." Hale said as David looked at Faye with a bit of apology swimming in his eyes. He didn't say anything, just took his bag and left the room.

Faye turned her face away from him, wiped her face and sniffled as she rested her head on top of crossed arms. Hale walked over and sat beside her silently.

"I don't want to do this anymore." Faye said, still keeping her head down. "I was better off staying away from you." Tears dropped out her eyes and she bit her lips trying to hold them back.

"You were. Weren't you?" Hale sighed as he looked blankly in front of him. "Do you wish you had never met me?" He asked.

"Yes." Faye replied in a meek voice as she sniffled and looked up, wiping her face.

"You saved me that day." She said, clearing her throat. "You shouldn't have."

"It was an instinct. I didn't care about you that day. I just stopped by to get it over with, but…."

"But you got in this mess instead." She bit her lip as she stared blankly ahead. "What is this mess, really? I want some answers now, Hale. I'm done being understanding towards you. I'm done….. I'm just done… I don't know what is happening and it's making me crazy. The day this…." She pointed at the screen. "This craziness started.. Do you know what happened to me that day?" She asked.

"He died." Hale replied.

"So you do know what happened that day?" She went silent for a moment. "This isn't real, Hale. You say we are destined mates, I believe we were destined to torture each other."

"I know that you're confused and upset but we are destined-"

"Oh no!" She cut him off as she stood up. "The one I was destined to be with died that day four years ago! You! You're just a punishment!" She held herself back as she watched him sitting on the floor with his head sloped down. She started laughing as more tears fled down her face. "You're not the punishment, are you? I am! I am you fucking punishment!" She turned away and walked towards the nearby wall as she rested her head against letting the coolness from it , calming herself. She kept sobbing as she stood there and Hale sat there sulking looking at the floor.

The room filled with her sobs as they both stayed at a distance from each other.

"It's so unfair." She murmured. "This… this is so unfair!" She cried out as she felt pain all over her body. She felt like her mind was going to blow up. "It's like the odds are always against me. I can't seem to ever live in peace. I'm just so bitter and bad that I've become someone's punishment." She said as she turned to look at him. "I'll leave by tomorrow and you won't come after me." She said as he looked at her.

Her eyes flashed with a glowing blue in them. He sighed as he nodded, holding himself back. She then left without looking back and shut the door behind in a loud thud. Hale sighed once again as he closed his eyes.

"The bond grew stronger." Hale heard Juniper's voice as he looked up to see Juniper standing infront of him.

"You can't win this, Hale. Your plan is going to flop big and before you know it she'll be in her casket buried good 6 feet down the earth."

"Then what am I supposed to do?" Hale asked.

"Can't you enjoy it while it lasts?" Juniper sat beside him. "If you keep trying to make it right, you're just going to end up speeding the process up. Isn't it better to just make memories?" Juniper asked as he lay down on the floor staring up at the ceiling.

"So I'm helpless. I should just lie back and watch her slowly die?" He asked.

"Of course! Everyone's going to die one day. The only reward she'll give from dying is that you'll become immortal and supreme."

Hale closed his eyes. He slowly opened them as they changed from black to an icy blue. He turned his head to him as he looked down at him.

"Leave, Juniper. Before I decide to tear you apart." His voice slightly growled.

Juniper let out a loud sigh. "Fine. I thought I could knock some sense into you but you're too yucky in love." He stood up and reached into his pocket to pull out a red door. Juniper looked at him with a bit of glow in his eyes waiting for him to ask so that Juniper could explain.

Hale sighed as he stood up. "I don't even wanna know anymore." He said before leaving.

"Well, he's sour."

_

She rushed through the hospital halls. Her feet were bare, she was still dressed in a fancy gown with her hair beautifully done but her makeup melted off her face. Her eyes were swollen. Her heart was impatient. She was scared and lost. She didn't know what to do. She just wanted to see him, she kept thinking this was another one of his elaborate pranks. There was no way it was true. He had promised her they'll go to college together. Her steps halted as she saw familiar faces. Coby and Darren, both of his best friends just stoof there frozen, their faces drenched in tears, their clothes red with blood.

"Faye." Coby said as he stepped towards her. He gently held her by her arms.

"Where is he?" She said looking around. "I swear I'll break up with him." Her voice trembled.

"Faye." Coby's voice broke as tears made their way in them. She turned her attention to Darren who stayed in a corned with his hands on his head. He made eye contact with her and slightly shook his head gesturing her towards a door.

"No…" She sobbed out. "No!" She pushed Coby away. She rushed inside the room.

"Nofil!" She cried out.

She looked around the dark room as she wiped her tears off her face. It was stormy night outside as the thunder roared outside. The door to her room opened with an abrupt thud. It was Estelle, the head of maids standing in the doorway.

"Are you okay?" She asked as she walked inside. "I heard screaming."

"I just had a nightma-' Faye paused for a moment. "Do you hear that?" She asked Estelle.

"Hear what?" Estelle asked.

She froze for a moment. "That!"

"I don't hear anything." Estelle told her.

Faye stood up and walked towards the window. "Someone is in pain." She said.

"What?" Estelle asked.

Faye turned to her. She couldn't quite tell what the sound was but she was familiar with it. She felt the pain in it. She could feel it as if it was hers. Like it belonged to her.

Her eyes glowed with a flash of blue for a second as she had an epiphany. A realisation of sorts. Estelled gasped watching her.

"He's in pain." She whispered to herself. "I have to go find him." Faye said as she rushed past estelle.

That feeling was once again making home in her. She felt the same way as she did that day. Her feet were bare, she was dishevelled as she rushed outside the house. Two guards approached her with an umbrella in the rainy storm that engulfed them.

"Ma'am, you should stay inside. It's not safe." One of them said but she shook her head as she stepped away from them drenching in rain.

"What's happening to him?" She asked them in an erratic manner. "I have to see him!" She said as they tried to hold her but in that moment unknowingly she had super strength. Her glowed with blue as she pushed both men away injuring them. She froze for a second but she kept hearing that sound. That call for help. She rushed down the path through the roaring storm.

The moonlight guided her as she kept running bare feet in her thin clothing. She halted a few feet away. There was something laying on the mudding ground with a bloody pool near it. A huge hairy white colored creature. She stepped forward as she sobbed out. She knew who it was. She sat down beside him, holding him into her arms as she caressed his fur softly.

"Hale." She said softly as she sobbed. "Why?"

The creature whimpered into her arms as she held him closer to her in that heavy storm. She tried to look for his wound but failed to do so. Her hands were trembling but she could feel his heart still beating and warmth from his body.

His eyes dimly glowed with blue as she looked at him. The deep sorrow was evident in his eyes. He had given up complete hope. He did this knowingly, he wanted to do this. Faye sobbed out as she held him carefully closer to herself.

"No." She sobbed out. "No.." This was happening again. She was harsh to someone she loved and now just like before they were going to leave her. Her whole body was trembling with fear. She didn't want to let go of him.

"I love you." She whispered into his ears. "I love you so much. Please don't leave me." She sobbed out just then her eyes fell to a reflection of her in a puddle of muddy water. That blurry reflection was enough for her to see her eyes glowing with icy cold blue. She looked at him and as a last resort she thought of something. She remembered how he healed her injuries with his blood. It was not werewolf blood that had healed her.

She held his paw as he whimpered in weakness. Using his nails she pierced the skin of her hand and squeezed the blood out by closing her fists closely. She held his mouth open and let the droplets fall into it.

It was a theory she was testing. She wasn't sure if this would work or not. But this was her last resort. It had to work. She believed in that moment it wasn't the blood of a werewolf that had healed her, it was her soulmate's blood that did.

The glow from his eyes died out as she held him and sobbed into him. He was gone. He was gone. He was gone. She kept thinking that as her grip around him tightened. It took her a moment but she realised his fur was shrinking. She pulled away and looked at him as he transformed slowly back to his human self. She kept holding him as he finally turned completely human.

She caressed his face gently as he coughed open his eyes. Her eyes glowed with tears as she helped him up. His eyes met her as tears fell down his face. He held himself hugging his legs.

"You idiot!" She cried out as she wrapped her arms around him.

"I'm sorry." He said, embracing her back into his arms. "I love you too." He softly whispered into her ears.
