Chapter 2 - Point 2

Darkness emerged as the sun dipped below the horizon, colorful yet colorless. The building in front of the Angel of Ruin was a squat, cylindrical affair, roughly 50 meters in diameter, and 200 meters tall, with grey concrete walls and sliding glass doors.

Inside the Angel stopped, surprised as the inside seemed to be much larger, almost 2 kilometers in diameter if her calculations were even close to accurate. Mark turned without stopping, "Yes, HQ is filled with non-Euclidian space. Hurry up we need to get you registered." She started forward again, while passively she noticed a barrier field on either side with a width of about 5 meters, and that the carpet she walked on seemed to be an actual night sky, the stars in it gave off a welcoming warmth and the darkness between gave off a balancing coldness.

The carpet stretched from one side of the field-lined hall to the other and to a desk in front of another 50-meter-diameter cylinder with elevator doors all around it. As they approached, a man appeared as if stepping out of a slit in space. "Admiral!" the man shouted, snapping to attention. "What can I do for you, sir?"

Mark turned, "We need to register this young lady and get her abilities logged. This is Assec btw, ruin."

"Understood sir," Assec said, then turned to the angel, "Nice to meet you newbie. Your name?" he asked with a smile.

"Angel of ruin," she responded, slightly confused. Mark laughed and said, "You get to choose a new name now that you are a steward." Assec pressed a button on the desk and a hologram with a list of all the sentient species in existence both past and future pooped up. "You may choose any name from any species on this list, however, our systems are not yet able to take names mixed and chosen from multiple species." She spotted a species she didn't know as she looked down the list.

"What is a hoomin?"

"Human," Assec corrected, "They are a species that has yet to exist as the time for them to evolve has yet to elapse in any cycle. They are a highly adaptable species, but," he paused and looked at Mark who shrugged, "there is a pool going to see if that adaptability will cost them anything. My money is on intelligence and wisdom."

"I see," she said, then touched the species listing. A massive list appeared in front of her, and to her surprise Mark and Assec were gone. She panicked for a few seconds before understanding dawned. -This space must be for privacy- she thought.

"Human names are interesting. They're both so simple, yet so elegant at the same time. . ." her sentence petered out as she became engrossed in the list. As the list was massive, it took her several weeks to find the name she wanted. "I got it. I wish to be known as Miranda Anne Davis."

As soon as she said her new name, the space she was in disappeared while Mark and Assec reappeared. Mark and Assec looked at each other with surprise in their eyes. Assec turned to Miranda and asked, "How long were you in there for?"

"Almost a month. Why?" She responded. Assec stared at her. "The space you were just in is a non-Euclidean, time dilated space. . .in other words it was only a few minutes here. . .that's why I asked, as most newbie take years out here to decide their name." Assec quickly looked down, and cleared his throat.

"What name did you decide on?" he asked.

"Miranda Anne Davis" Assec tapped on his desk momentarily then said, "Welcome to the Stewards of the Veil, Miss Davis."
