Don arrives at the airport.
Nothing else but joy. Running like I can see the line, I must win this marathon, Cynthia receives Don. He looks really cute in the outfit as he standstill, waiting to grip each other tight. The music in the back ground is so enticing when the two warm each other chests for a while.
"My father told me to pick you up on a horse," says Cynthia joyfully at the climax of a hug. "At the airport....! and you came with one!" searching with his eyes around the place, Don wonders. "He was just joking," she says laughing it off, watching his curious look. "It would have been easier if I was in the royal family of England," he says, "but since am a regular guy, I will enjoy my limited choices."
On a speed boat Don and Cynthia sails on ocean blue waters for quite a long distance to a ten thousand square kilo metre island where they anchor the boat. "Welcome to paradise," Cynthia brags. "Just like everyone alive, I've always dreamed of being here someday," Don admits in a joking way. "My dad presented this island to my mom on her 40th birthday with this beautiful mansion, fulfilling her dreams of every going on an island for vaccation when she retires. My mother locked herself in the bedroom for seven days and seven nights. We knocked day and night she didn't open but at least one word came out of her mouth, 'God'. She wasn't eating anything either, and on the fourth day dad wanted to break the door and because we were now worriedly scared. "If you dare touch that door I'll kill both of you," that's what mom told my dad before even touching it. I don't know how she knew it but dad had to leave the door. We never knew why she was doing that until the seventh day late at night, the maid who was hired keep eyes on her door started screaming on top of her voice, "Sir....! Madam....!". Everyone on showed up so fast from wherever we were, including the relatives and friends that had come for the matter. We were so happy to see her come out by herself and most importantly alive, but the question on our hearts was not yet answered, 'Why?' was the question," Cynthia tells this story to Don as they both walk on the island beach. "Did you finally know why?" asks Don. "I think am also interested to know why," he says. "We took good care of her without asking any further. When
she wake up the next day, mom gathered all of us and had to pass a message," says Cynthia.
"I was fasting, asking heavens to show me the best way to thank my husband for a birthday gift he presented to me on my birthday. For seven days I didn't get any answer different from thank you. I came to realize 'that thank' you is the only and the best word ever given to us during creation to show appreciation. But heavens didn't disappoint me either. On walking out of my bedroom, I saw faces of many of our relatives and friends that I didn't even except to see infront of me, heavens gathered all of you for my sake. To say 'THANK YOU' in a special way. Thanks to the heavens for making such a good set up. I here by thanking my husband for loving me dearly. Thank you for loving me, Thank you for the birthday gift"
"Every one around including the servants were shading tears of joy as mom spoke such heart touching words. For me and my dad, this was a lesson and another walk of life. We didn't even know that our mother had anything to do with God. It was obvious that heavens had answered her prayers. All those numbers of people could not come to our home unless there was a big problem. Mom gave her thanks in honour. We had to sell the house and shift to this island house so that mom could be on vacation everyday before she even retires. It was another unexpected move dad did that blew mom's mind up. My mom owns an island in her names and she lives here with her family as she ever wished," Cynthia concludes the story happily.
Sound of the high heels kissing on the floor step by step, Dodo walks majestically from her car. Owen shows up coming outside of the hotel with a laptop in his hands. Immediately her eyes spot him, Dodo puts an unwelcoming face. She doesn't mind distancing herself as she walks past him to prove to him that she is not interested in his existence any more. Owen notices how Dodo is clearly avoiding him. "Hey Dodo!" he calls rushing towards her. She walks on so fast angrily, sending a clear signal that I don't want anything to do with you. But Owen covers the distance so fast and grabs her hand. She has no another option than standing with a fade up look on her face. As a mature minded young lady and a boss as well in the environment, Dodo realises she can't put up a show which can create and audience. "This is not the best way you can treat a friend especially in a place like this!" Owen bluffs her into surrendering. Can you go inside their and by a bottle of wine" in an angry tone of voice Dodo tells him, "I would like to have steak with it." Owen understands that maybe she indirectly wants him to sit down in a convenient location for a talk. "It will be better if you just follow me," before he even begins to think where, Dodo simplifies it for him to save his stuck mind. Straight to the elevator upto her hotel suite door. "I don't like that kind of look on your face, it makes me uncomfortable," she strikes rudely, "and make sure when you get inside you don't ruin it like you did it down there because it was a perfect day for me since morning." Confounded and speechless, Owen enters the suit after Dodo when she opens up. "Don't sit, just say what you wanted to say because I don't like anything to do with you anymore" in a very serious gesture she attacks him. He can't figure out why she keeps attacking him angrily without leaving any options as he shrinks and nodes the head.
Owen: Am your visitors, at least treat me like one for the last time.
Dodo: My enemy's friend is my enemy too. Lala is even beyond the level of being my enemy. She's a nightmare that's why your appearance too irritates me.
Owen cannot stand this insult instead he breaks Dodo's orders of not to sitting and he finds himself on a coach. "Do you want me to die because a person I work for fell out of line with you?!" Owen gets tough now. I don't even have a single crew of your misunderstandings," he speaks roughly and angrily.
"I don't even know where your wrangles come from but when two elephants fight, its us the grass that suffers," he says, "gosh!" He breaks into silence for a short while inhaling and exhaling slowly to calm himself down.
"What makes matters worse right now" he says, "I cannot avoid you anymore.... because I like you already."
Speaking on top of his voice in the beginning and then lowering it at the end.
As a female who is single and searching, such a statement from a handsome looking man Owen doesn't leave Dodo's heart in the same condition, it melts. She cannot find her ego at the moment. Silenced by the statement for a bit, while looking opposite directions shyly;
Dodo: This is not the best way to ask a lady out. And not the right time too.
Owen: When is the right time? I cannot pretend anymore.
Dodo: Am sorry for behaving weird.... just that.... the world is too scary. Am always disappointed by the people I truly trust and love. I am so confused right now.
Dodo's voice turns to come out miserable and sorry. Owen notices how frowning and scowling her face appears and walks slowly in small steps towards her. He grabs her comfortably on the left shoulder and the right arm, rubs his right hand gently and smoothly on her back up the left shoulder side.
"It's all going to be alright," says Owen who walks her to sit down.
Plates, folks, spoons and knifes talking on dinner as Cynthia's family catches a meal with Don. The instrumental music in the background makes the moment so perfect. "What are you looking at?" Cynthia gets her friend Don drowned all eyes into a wallet picture on the bed where he is seated during bed time after dinner and asks. "It seems too special for you, right!" she insinuates walking closer to him. "You don't have to make that face," says Cynthia sitting close next to him leaning on his shoulder without minding. "My dad already told me why you came back to America," she adds. Don doesn't seem to be surprised or even bothered. "Am I making you uncomfortable?" She inquires. She then turns infront of him, looks into his eyes and say; "Your dad called my dad asking about you.... that's how I got to know. You don't have to worry about a thing.... ," she grabs his fingers of both hands into her warm hands and says, "I will offer my help in every kind of way...., so don't hesitate to ask." She puts a simple smile.
The pressure on Lala is too much. She is deeply in thoughts of how this lady she seems not to know anything about ended up tormenting her peaceful life in unexpected way. Going through her memories, "....," she recalls on how Dodo came to speak in the meeting room. Worriedly looking, she stands up from her uncomfortable position and picks up a phone from the table. She straight away dials Owen who is at Dodo's place in the moment with Dodo seated zero distance with her on the chair. Owen feels the vibration and the ringtone at the same time. "Excuse me," he requests fixing his hand into his panty pocket to get the phone. It's Lady Lala on displaying on the screen. Dodo notices too. Owen has no option other than answering and hears what his boss has to say.
Owen: Hello Madam.
Lala: Did you find out where she stays. He waits a little bit to give in a response and looks at Dodo.
"Please give me some more time... hopefully by tomorrow I will be having positive response" he replies with a lie.
Lala: Thank you. She takes a deep breath seeming too confounded.
It is true Lala is not pretending. She doesn't remember Dodo at any point in time of her whole life. This is hard for her because Dodo is wrathfully demanding to know what happened.
"I hate Lala with all my heart," Dodo tells Owen after hanging up a phone call.
"She wants to know where you stay," responds Owen in a sorry voice. "Look" he adds after thinking for a moment, "I actually don't know what exactly is going on between you and my boss... for the time shortest time I've known you Dodo, your personality is of such a good female. I am about to make two years working under lady Lala.... in my entire life, I've never seen such a wonderful boss. She has always been truthful, loyal and very kind not only to me, but even to the people we meet day in day out. She doesn't mind the status of someone...she treats everyone as a human being who has blood feelings and emotions with love and compassion."
Feeling sorry and sad, Owen describes both of them with an implication that it hurts to see both of his these two people in a misunderstanding with no root cause. "I cannot even help.... even though I madly wish to... I have no idea!" he exclaims sadly.
"All these things you've talked about..... is the Lala I lived with, my best friend!" Dodo busts so loud in confusion, " but right now it's so unbelievable that she can pretend not to know me..! really!" she emotionally drops tears of disappointment. "Where did humanity go....? Why do people suddenly become so heartless....? Forgetting even the fortunate times of their lives!" emotionally crying Dodo asks questions directly in Owen's face but he seems bare of a single answer to give for the situation at hand to chill out.
It's too hard for Dodo at the moment. Back to Lala it's is very hard for her with depression filled up on her face. Don is going through the same challenge, all looking puzzled wondering if its really true Lala wake up and ran away from him so far away.
"She didn't even ask to know what I had to say" Don tells Cynthia on the bed where both of them are sitting, "that's what really bothers all of us because she was family." He gets overcome with emotion as he narrates the story to his friend Cynthia.
Cynthia: I will make her pay for hurting my friend's feelings.
Don smiles a little bit.
"Make sure you don't over think.... try to enjoy your sleep... you need to wake up with a fresh mind in the morning," says Cynthia who stands up to wish him a good night.
Don: Goodnight Cynthia.
"So.... he has a girlfriend," Cynthia's mother asks to confirm the information from her daughter when she walks into her crying. She has no option but to comfort her daughter whose expectations where so high.
"You need to embrace reality from now on," she tells her daughter. Into her mother's chest, Cynthia cries more. During a conversation with Don she was carrying a smile on her face which was so friendly as she alway does. It is surprising to know all along she held feelings for Don secretly and only her mother knew about it. Don doesn't even have a single idea that her best friend Cynthia crushes on him.
"Its true Don is married mom," Cynthia cries out loud in her mother's chest.
"Be careful lest you fall into a drain," Mr James grabs his wife's hand to save her from the slide while both of them walk outside the house fence. "During our early days, it was really hard to believe if you told me that me and you were going to grow this far together. it's just like yesterday when love and hatred occupied my heart. The more I got vulnerable to pain, the more I became stronger. I thank you for turning me into that" Mr james says to his wife walking slowly under the morning sunshine outside their home fence. I love you so much," he stands a bit and confesses to her. With a beautiful mature smile Mr and Mrs James closely poke kiss each other and warmly hug respectively as a sign of love and unity among lovers.
They both continue to walk along. Mrs James's health is improving day in day out and now she can walk with one walking stick, recieving a little hand support from the husband.
"When you say those words to me, I feel like am taking compliments which are supposed to go to someone else," Mrs James speaks to her husband emotionally. She stands still and looks boldly at him. The expression forces Mr James to stand too in wonder of what she has got to say next. "Don's father..." she speaks, "Gordon is the reason why we are here, together as husband and wife with our beautiful daughter Dodo today." "Heavens gave us a friend in order to fulfill our prayers," she emphasises drawing a picture into her husband's memories, "may his soul rest in paradise." "I feel like we've not done enough in raising his son," sorrowfully she say. "How do you mean?" Mr James asks. "It's so painful to see Don going through whatever he is going through for love. It is not different from what both of us went through. Can't forget how my parents were so hard on us. They truly had all the rights to show me the direction they thought was the best for me as their beloved daughter.... but, as parents..... we tend to overlook what really are the desires of our children. We make them go through totally very hard time. I can now imagine," she narrates sorrowfully. The words make their morning walk a long life revision exercise, leaving both Mr and Mrs James revived.
"Excuse me Madam," asks the hotel manager immediately he sees Dodo walking towards the reception to collect her suite key. She slows down to hear his concern. "He got a separate suite just like we assumed and he asked you to meet him there," says the manager handing a note to her which she reads.
Without mentioning a single word, Dodo changes her direction with too much concern written all over her face. Numbers on the elevator count as it moves floor by floor with her inside. Her fingers covered inside gloves to save her from the coldness, she points one of them to press the door bell. Not twice but in just a single press, the door doesn't take long to open automatically.
In desperation and strong desire filled with fear, doubts and uneasiness, at the entrance which separates the outside and inside of the suite, Dodo faces Don. Her angry, hungry but desireful eyes contact a man she has ever loved truly at the extent of chosing darkness to light if it was to make both of them stay together. Her high pressure breath cannot be controled.
I THANK YOU FOR THE PATIENCY, NO MATTER THE CHALLENGES THE NOVEL MUST BE COMPLETED.
