Garrett POV
I've had enough of Travis and his human mate, he thinks just because he's the Alpha he can do whatever he wants without anyone else challenging his decision but he forgets that even though our father isn't the current Alpha, he's still a powerful wolf and high-rank member of the community.
After I and some of the other scouts tracked down some large game, I sent them back to the packhouse to report it to Travis while I continued to the northern part of the territory to meet with Dad and tell him about what's been going on since I first told him about Travis and that human. After our mom passed away 10 years ago from injuries when she got caught in a hunters trap on the edge of the territory, Dad's hatred for humans grew stronger to the point where he felt disgusted looking at his human form in the mirror and decided to live off the land in his wolf form in the northern part of the territory. For the past 10 years, the only communication he's had is with me through the mind link and occasional meetings with me out here in the woods.
By the time I reached his cave, the wind had already started to pick up, meaning the incoming snowstorm was about to start.
"I'm here Dad", I mind-linked him waiting for a reply.
"Well what news do you bring me now?", he answered back as his black wolf stepped out from the cave shadows. No doubt even though he was an older wolf with greying fur showing his age, he could still hold his own in a fight but I would never challenge him because of his experience in the battle against other packs and rouges.
"It's Travis, he's gone too far with this mate of his and has even taken her out on a date to reveal his true identity along with her role as Luna to which she accepted. Even right now as we speak, he's having a place set for her at the main table in the feasting hall. I know that a few lower rank members in the pack have human mates but they have their own homes off the territory along with being sworn to secrecy about the packs existence. The trouble with her is that she accepted this high position with the Alpha and of course after a while they will have half breed pups, ending the pure wolf bloodline".
"I understand what you're saying and how this will affect our bloodline but what angers me most is that even after his mother was killed by humans, he still accepts one as his mate and I consider that a direct insult to your mother's legacy".
"The only way to split them up is if she rejects him which doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon and you know yourself that once a wolf finds its mate, the only thing that can separate them is either rejection or death."
He started pacing around until he stopped and faced me with a look of realization.
"Even if she rejected him, there's a possibility of them getting back together but death will surely keep them apart."
"By death, are you suggesting that I kill her!?", I exclaimed shocked at the thought of taking a human life even though I've been in fights with rouges where their death was the only option, but killing a human only made me feel like a bloodthirsty, rampaging werewolf stereotype from horror stories and that wasn't me.
"No, Garrett what I'm suggesting is you have Travis do the killing himself. Of course, once he realizes what he's done, he'll most likely be too ashamed to keep his position as Alpha, moving you and Anna up to the Alpha and Luna positions. Then when you two have pups, our bloodline will remain strong and pure".
What he said made a lot of sense, it's just a shame that it has come to this but the hard part to figure out is how do you get a wolf to kill his beloved mate because it goes against our customs and wolf nature.
"Dad, I know what you're saying makes the most sense but if I am to go through with this plan, then how do I get my brother to kill his mate that he's been waiting for all these years?"
"Garrett remember the stories I told you when you were younger about the warriors from Chief Erik's tribe that would turn into absolute killing machines with no awareness of what they were doing until after they came down off their highs?"
"Yea, you said they took some type of plant drug that put them in a mindset to kill anything in front of them, giving them the nickname 'Berserkers', but do we even have that type of plant available around here?"
"Follow me, son," he said before taking off on a hidden path that led up to the top of the hill above his cave where a patch of that very same plant grew.
"This is the reason I decided to live here in this area. All wolves know to stay away from the Hebane also known as the Witch's plant and I knew they would also stay away from me. All you have to do is give him one stalk with the blossom on it and let nature do the rest".
Nia POV
The next day, Stacy came over to have some girl time but mostly to find out how the date went last night. I told her about how Travis was a perfect gentleman and made sure that I was taken care of and comfortable with everything while we were together. When I got to the part about him revealing his werewolf secret to me, I could see the anxiousness in her eyes wanting to know my response and saw her mood lighten up with a smile across her face when I told her that I accepted him and my place in the pack. She was so excited to hear about all of this to the point where she felt comfortable answering some more questions I had.
"Me and Travis already went over what my position would be in the pack but I need you to tell me my duties in that position so I don't go in there unaware of what's expected of me."
"Well Nia, for starters the Luna is the second most important position in the pack. She is the Alpha's main supporter, along with overseeing event preparations for important visiting wolves, offering advice on certain matters if needed, and being able to lead the pack when the Alpha isn't around".
"Wow that sounds like a lot but I guess it's easy compared to an Alpha's duties since he is the main one in charge, huh?"
"I wouldn't say it's easier, you both will have to work together to ensure the pack, its laws, and customs are maintained. All of us work together as a cohesive unit to make sure everyone is taken care of, protected and that the pack's secret is kept from those of the outside world like regular humans and hunters".
What Stacy was talking about really started to hit me. I would be responsible for keeping track of everything from which wolves are doing what, to making sure everyone is upholding the pack standard and that no one is in any danger. A month ago, I might have never accepted a position like this but I trusted Travis and hoped that he would keep his promise when it came to guiding me in the ways of pack life.
"Stacy, now that I know about the pack and Travis, another thing I wanted to know about is what form do you shift into?", I asked hoping I didn't sound weird to her right now.
She gave a giggle before getting comfortable sitting beside me on the couch and knowing Stacy, this meant she was about to go in-depth.
"First off, we don't turn into giant 7ft Lycans on two legs as you see in the movies. Our wolf forms are just like the ones out in nature with four legs, tail, snout, paws, ears, etc. Though as for size the largest ones are the Alpha's and Betas since they are the highest-ranked. The biggest wolves in our pack right now are Travis and Garrett being 6'5 at the shoulders because they both have Alpha blood in them but most wolves are the same size except for the warriors because they train a lot in both human and wolf form, so they put on a bunch of muscle."
"Ok, so for my next question how do you guys communicate with each other in that form, I mean it's not like you can use phones or talk."
"All wolves have what is called a mind link where we communicate telepathically through a spiritual link that connects all wolves. Whoever you want to talk to, you just focus on that person and let your words flow freely in your mind. It takes some getting used to at first but when you get the hang of it, you can contact any wolf you know and an advanced skill is being able to mind link the whole pack at once, but that ability is mainly used by the Alpha if there is an emergency or some important news he needs everyone to know about at the same time."
All this new information was blowing my mind, up until last night I thought I had full knowledge of the type of world I was living in but here I am sitting on my couch with my werewolf friend talking about different wolf abilities and features.
"Last night while I was asleep, I met Travis's wolf in the dream realm. He said that since I was human and didn't have a wolf, he would be guiding me along with Travis. Does that mean I'll get some sort of abilities like the ones you just mentioned?", I asked hoping she'd say yes, so I wouldn't feel like such an outsider coming into the pack.
"To be honest, I don't know. I've never heard of a human mate gaining wolf powers but don't let that trouble you, you're the Luna handpicked by the gods specifically for Travis. If they see that you two are a perfect match then I wouldn't worry about it."
She was right, if the powers that be felt me and Travis belonged together then something as simple as me not being a wolf wasn't going to change that.
"If you don't mind me being a little extra curious, what's your wolf's name, and can I meet her?"
Stacy's face lit up with excitement followed by a quick look of deep thought like she was internally debating how she should answer my request before taking both of my hands in hers while looking me in the eyes like Travis did last night at the restaurant. I didn't know what she was doing until her eyes changed from their normal emerald green to deep gold. She was letting her wolf come to the surface to say Hi to me!
"Hello Luna, my name is Ida. I'm Stacy's wolf and I'm very happy to finally met you face to face. I'd like to apologize for that moment back at the festival between you and Alpha when his eyes glazed over in a foggy haze, he and Stacy were using the mind link to discuss who was going to take you home that afternoon, to which he decided he would do."
"It's ok Ida, I'm understanding things a lot better now and hopefully soon all of this will become second-hand knowledge to me", I replied feeling like I've made a deeper connection into the pack, even if it was just with 1 other wolf.
"I'm sure glad about that, If you need help with anything else just ask Stacy to let me come forth."
"I sure will but before you go, there is one more thing I want to ask you."
"Ask me anything Luna".
"Can I see your wolf form? I wanted to ask Travis this last night but I didn't feel like it was the appropriate time to do so."
She let go of my hands before her eyes clouded over in that same fog which I now know is them using the mind link. She was probably asking Travis if it was ok for me to see that but once her eyes cleared up, she focused back on me with a sorrowful look.
"I'm sorry Luna, Alpha said that's an experience he would rather you wait for so he and his wolf can help you experience it."
"It's ok, I understand, The Alpha's orders must be obeyed", I said smiling back at her.
"It was fun talking with you Luna, I hope we can hang out again soon," she said before the gold in her eyes faded and the emerald green filled back in.
"So how did it go between you two?" Stacy asked giddy with excitement.
"Ida is a great wolf, you're lucky to have her."
"Thanks, she's helped me through a lot in my life and has been there for me during some tough moments."
After some more time hanging out and talking more about the pack, Stacy left to go back home and help with final preparations for the feast on Monday night, which I'd be attending. If what I learned today was any indication of what me being the Luna is, then I was ready to accept it all.
