We were getting along with this beautiful girl, when Jelani the owner of the diner came to our table with another girl about our age to sit with us. "Hi, I'm Nicole,I'm really sorry to disturb your time here , but the diner is packed and I really want to taste her milkshake", "of course you can sit" Samantha said scooting a little bit.
"I'm not from around , but my aunt brought me here since we just moved"Nicole said,"ohh you heard about their milkshakes too?" I asked because I knew Jelani's had already turned a landmark." How did you know, my aunt couldn't stop talking about them!" She said in excitement.
Nicole was pretty short, and beautiful, and she was dark skinned. She wasn't overly short, just petite, I admired her stature, it really suited her shape.
As fate had it, all of us started getting into conversations," do you live here?" Samantha asked the girls who just joined us,"we just moved","I just moved with my family" Nicole and Abigail said at the same time.
"Ohh, I was born here, to be honest I haven't been to anywhere else", Samantha said," I moved here a year ago, and I can't quite say am bored yet, there's just so much to do" I said meeting Nicole's gaze and smiling at her .
We started getting along ,we literally spent summer together, I was quite surprised when we resumed to the same class for the next class.
We went to every pool party organized by some of our classmates, we went shopping for school, we had barbecue at everyone's backyard we were invited to. We helped Abigail and Nicole set up their room since they just moved and it gave us so much closure till we became very close friends
We eventually became best of friends, through all the grades, we formed our own reading group, we were all beauty with brains. Of course sometimes we had to fight over silly things like food because of me , or artistes or tv channels or other things.
I was the only one with the history of dating at least four people, my last breakup before leaving senior high must have been the most devastating of them all, because I was more broken and shattered than before. After that I learnt my lesson and I stayed single and just admired all the hot boys.
Well Nicole and Abigail later had boyfriends which we had to comfort them when they had a fight or anything of such, but I am very glad that we all took a liking to taller guys.
The rest of high school was filled with slumber parties, and we gossiped a lot, even about things that was of no importance, but as long as it was termed gist, it was hot topic.
We spent summer together, everytime up till senior year, where we started thinking of the end of our secondary education, before we went to college.
The whole year until the last few weeks, we just wanted to spend time with each other, as if imprinting each face In our head. Of course we still studied together, and topped the class.
"The last paper, the last day, the final year!", Samantha said in tears as we all stood outside the class
We all knew it was going to come , the time to say goodbye, the time to part ways. We had tried so hard to stick together regardless, each and everyone of us knew the day we dreaded the most was fast approaching
A group of four which had been together since the start of high school, we had been through so much and yet we stuck together because we believed we were meant for each other.
Even if we didn't spend up to twenty years with each other before coming to love ourselves so much, the little amount of time we spent together, we had become more or less sisters.
"Let's just go in and do our bests like we've been doing, and maybe after, we could go to our favorite spot at Jelani's to sulk" Nicole said trying very hard not to breakdown,"yeah we should do that" I said already cleaning the tears from the corner of my eyes.
We entered the classroom and settled down, setting aside our emotions and concentrating on the task at hand . The last test was an aptitude test, which we did well since we all studied so hard.
After 2 long hours, which seemed more to all of us, all the emotions we had locked in to take the exam burst open as we cried silently while hugging each other.
After what seemed like hours , we arrived at Jelani's, a coffee shop and diner ten blocks away from our school. We just sat in silence as we reminisced the moments we spent together and wondering what would become our friendship.
It was our last summer together, the very last one we would spend together because we had seen acceptance letters to pursue our different dreams. We all agreed to meet each year at the same booth, every year , even if we had others in our lives, regardless, just to keep the spark.
Nicole went to college first because she had to settle down. She was going to college on the other side of the world to be a hacker, I knew she was going to be the best hacker I had ever known. On the night of her departure, I think it was safe to say we cried our eyes out seeing her board the plane and leave.
Samantha followed to be the best forensics scientist you could ever find in the world, her college wasn't that far as Nicole, two states away, we cried our eyes out again at her departure, leaving just me and Abigail.
I was a tad bit late because I had to do some shopping before going, I left the city, to study to be a lawyer, I just wished that each and everybody didn't forget the promise to come back to Jelani's after a year
Abigail was the last to leave, from what I heard from my mom, she left two days after my departure to study music, I knew she was going to ace it , she had the softest voice.
I beleived we were all going to be successful, we worked so hard to the point we were, we were definitely going to succeed.
Cheers to love and life 🥂
