Lisa went along with Dr. Chris to the laboratory. He then handed her over to the chief lab scientist with the instructions for him to get a blood sample and test for traces of a sedative. Lisa was out of the lab in less than five minutes. Micheal saw her come out and went over to her. "How did it go?" he asked.
"They took the blood sample. It didn't hurt for long." She laughed. Micheal then took her to the waiting room. And as promised in approximately twenty minutes she was called to Dr. Chris' office. This time Micheal accompanied her to get the results. Dr. Chris showed them to two seats opposite his that were adjacent to each other. They took their seats and waited. Dr. Chris took his seat then and picked up Lisa's hospital record. He said, "You're going to be alright Miss Lisa. Some traces of thalidomide were found in your blood. Thalidomide is no longer used as a sedative because of the unfortunate side effects it caused after long term use. It can only be purchased on the black market now if when it hasn't been prescribed by a physician. Which has got me wondering how this person got access to it. Since you were given only a single dose the probability of any serious side effects is very low. Fortunately, you're not pregnant or your baby might have developed some neurological birth defects. That said, you're going to be just fine." He smiled.
Lisa was glad. At the very least she had one less thing to worry about. "Thanks alot doctor." She said.
"You can put the bill on the Wards' tab." Micheal said.
"Don't bother. It's on the house." Chris replied smiling.
Lisa and Micheal walked out of the hospital. Lisa was very much relieved. "Thank you for accompanying me sir." She said to Micheal.
"Don't mention it." He replied.
"Sir, I'll take the bus home. I wouldn't want to impose on you any more than I already have." Lisa said.
Micheal left for the company then although he wasn't in much of a haste to get to work. He took his work with him wherever he went so he was always up to date.
"That's just as well", Lisa thought. She needed some alone time to clear her mind and think up a plan. She really needed one. This was the second attempt to cause her some sort of harm. And in Lisa's book nothing spells challenge quite like this. As far as she was concerned the gauntlet had been dropped, and she'd be damned if she didn't pick it up.
"This was getting sticky, and terribly annoying." The watcher said to herself, as she strolled through the garden. The look and smell of the flowers was getting on her nerves. They reminded her of Lisa who has thwarted her plans twice despite the fact that she hardly made any effort to do so. Despite her annoyance she knew better than to leave the garden at that moment. She needed to feel so much malice towards Lisa and the smell of the flowers added fuel to an already blazing fire.
She'd gone to meet the stupid ex- convict she'd asked to do the job. And he had had the audacity to ask for compensation for a job he didn't do. If she was a coldblooded murderer she'd have stabbed him in the throat for uttering those words.
It seemed Lisa was lucky that the watcher was not willing to risk being charged with murder or more aptly put murder of a insignificant like Lisa, for that was how the watcher saw her.
The watcher did however come to the conclusion that the ex- convict was a loose end and she needed to put that situation to rights before it came back to bite her in one unmentionable body part. And she wasn't ignorant of the fact that he may start to blackmail her. He was a criminal after all.
One thing she prided herself in was putting the fear of God in people she'd decided she didn't like. So, before she parted ways with the criminal she gave him avery detailed explanation of how she'd rip the skin off him, plug out his eyes, chop off his fingers, and perform a dissection on him, of course with no anaesthetic. Just as an added measure she decided to use some blackmail of her own.
First she had really incriminating images of the guy sexually harassing a minor , plus he was her accomplice in the crime. There's just no way she'd be going down alone.
She handed him a flight ticket to Fiji. Warning him never to return or contact her.
The watcher decided then that she wouldn't be involving a third party in her next move. There was just too much risk in involving another person.
Micheal arrived at the office after a year of back to back business trips. Nothing much had changed in his time away. Only a few employees had been laid off, for bad behaviour.
He so wished that his greatest annoyance had quit, but things never go the way you want them to. Do they?
As soon as he took his seat, behind his desk in his office at the topmost floor on the one hundred floor building, she made what she must have thought was a "grand entrance".
Micheal braced himself and waited for it.
"Mickey you're back. You've been gone too long." She said. Micheal had braced himself alright, but he just couldn't help but wince.
Gertrude Ross "Trudy" for short had been pestering Micheal for along time. She was beautiful, stikingly so. But he just didn't understand her. How could she possibly be so oblivious? He rejected her subtly so many times that he'd come to conclusion that she's either too dumb, or much too persistent for his taste.
Trudy was their advertisment officer. She was surprisingly good at her job,so he could only hope that she'd quit one day, since he was a business man at heart and he knew that letting Trudy go would make their business incur losses.
"Micheal, you've grown out your hair by an inch. I thought you looked better with shortly cropped hair, but you look just perfect."
Micheal sighed. This was going to be one hell of a long day.
