Chapter 10 - The fight

The hunter's association made the hunters stand behind the walls to kill any beast that was able to bypass the wall defenses and military personnel on top of the walls. San's team was discussing their roles and formation. San's team leader was a Rank-4 Expert battle mage in the ground element. He made the team pair up and spread them around their designated area after that he made the hard concrete soften and swallow him.

'That's an interesting strategy' thought Clay.'He is using his team's weaknesses without him as bait. When a beast spots them it would want to kill them as soon as possible so they can't call for help and that's when he strikes from under the ground. I should get some ground skills they have good defensive properties which I am seriously lacking.'

As time went on the trembling increased, and soon beasts that survived the wall's attacks tried to pass the wall but then military soldiers started attacking the beasts, very few beasts were able to pass the soldiers and when they did the hunters finished them off but this was only the start. None of the elite and commander-tier beasts ever moved.

'We have passed the hour mark now should be the final wave will all the beasts pushing together. The Rank-6 guy was right, the beasts had no plans for fully destroying the city. They started doing this way of battling a few decades ago when they realized how hard it is to destroy cities without being able to teleport the whole army inside it the city, those times were hell people used to live in fear.'

'But those were also the golden age of human blessed. Some of the greatest humans to ever live, that era birthed. They pioneered this generation of safety. The Queen of Space-Time made teleportation blocking arrays that made the beast's strongest weapon obsolete. The Crimson Hell a man who can breathe an entire army to ash, and The Father of Energy whose creations are protecting every city for free. If he is ever killed all the weapons on top of every defensive city wall will become useless because all of them run on energy given by him. I can't believe the amount of power a person would have to be able to provide power to millions of energy-based weapons. If cities had to provide energy for the weapons it's estimated that most cities would go broke from operating these weapons for more than 30 hours.'

'I wonder if I can achieve such power or even higher when I reach 100%.'

"Ah Ahhh help someone help!"

On top of the wall, a fat fleshy hound was spewing poisonous gas from its head while trying to tear off the hand of a soldier.

*Pssh*

A silenced bullet was shot and the hound flinched letting go of the soldier's hand.

*Pssh*

The hound was shot again, pissed about not finding his shooter opened its mouth wide open and started spewing more gas so it could run away.

*Pssh*

A bullet was shoot into the hound's mouth, instantly blowing apart a piece of its neck.

'2 shots to the head didn't even damage it. That hound must have been close to forming its elemental core.'

As the battle heated up more and more beasts were getting on top of the wall. San's team had been attacked 4 times but the clever Rank-4 killed them all easily with his strategy. Clay had been shooting monsters on top of the wall and had killed about 13 of them. The sniper used his neutral energy to form bullets. Clay was happy to find out that it didn't take much energy to shoot.

*Thud*

A huge white gorilla jumped over the wall and landed near Sans's team. Spikes shot up from the ground but the gorilla had already jumped away.

"All of you fall back and take care of any other beast you find, this is an elite beast I will take care of it alone." The Rank-4 mage ordered.

After giving out orders he started fighting the beast, trying to move it away from his teammates.

More beasts were bypassing the wall forcing the hunters to be more active. Clay was shooting any beats he could. Most of them died in one shot but some required more.

San's team leader had severely hurt the elite monster. The monster had gaping wounds caused by the ground spike and its knees were already sinking deep into the soft ground.

'That elite monster is close to its death. Should I try to kill steal, the will of Mother Earth was to kill an elemental beast, not an elite. It's not worth it to kill this beast as the expert mage will notice me. Let's search for an easy elemental.'

After 20 minutes Clay finally found his chance when a water swordsman made a huge wound near a fire elemental's heart. The elemental knowing it was going to die made its body heated up as it tried to explode.

*Pssh*

The elemental's heart exploded and it died.

*TING*

> Killed an Elemental beast <

Mother Earth's will completed.

Mother Earth gifts you the chance to move 1 environmental ability to your natural body.

> Mother Earth's new will <

Kill an elite beast.

'Damn that's a great gift. With these, I don't have to worry about missing op abilities. I should save it for now after all I am checking out the muscle dimension next. I will only use the wish when I need it.'

After 2 more hours, the battle had finally ended. During this attack, a lot of hunters and soldiers were killed but only one high-ranking Rank-5 was killed. Before the fight even ended Clay went away as he ran out of energy to keep shooting.

Back in his room Clay called up his parents to assure them that he was safe and sound.
