Dyoza froze for a second, not expecting this to happen. She knew the risks she had taken, the sacrifices she had made, to protect the secret of her pregnancy. And now, the secret had been laid bare before her and all of her men, exposed by a boy she had underestimated once again.
Without hesitation, Dyoza reached for the radio on her belt, her voice laced with a mix of determination and desperation. "Shaw, release the prisoners from cryo."
Even though it might not seem like it, Dyoza's decision was a calculated risk, an attempt to secure her own leverage, knowing that the lives of those who remained on their ship were now intertwined with her own.
Bellamy's voice rang out desperately, echoing through the plaza as he tried to establish contact with Dyoza. "Dyoza, wait! We can find another way. Let's talk, negotiate."
Clarke and Octavia, who were beside Bellamy look scared, but not because of what Dyoza did. Not even close… Both of them were scared of what I was going to do now because for them this was something akin to opening Pandora's Box. Bellamy looks worried as he pulls his radio from his pocket. "Raven, come in. You read me?"
Clarke's stomach drops in fear as Raven's voice never comes through, and Diyoza smirks at them. "The deal's off, but nobody has to get hurt."
Clarke comes running towers her, and Diyoza raises her hand in there before she looks at her. "Some of the people were talking about your mother, who is a doctor, so where is she?"
Bellamy steps closer to Diyoza, face set into a glare. "She's her bloody mother, you can't take her."
McCreary turns his weapon on Clarke, and she feels fear grip her tight at the thought of what that gun can do, especially since she, Octavia, and Bellamy all stand so close to each other. "She asked you a question, where is the doctor?"
But before he can squeeze the trigger, a gunshot rings out, cutting through the air. The bullet finds its mark, striking McCreary's arm. The impact was immediate and devastating, causing him to drop the mining gun to the ground, as his arm become mangled and bloodied. When they saw that, the prisoners took a step back in fear, watching in horror as one of their leaders had become armless.
Dyoza freezes in place, her gaze locked on me, the one who had just fired the shot. It dawns on her, with chilling clarity that this young man is willing to go to extreme lengths to protect those he cares about. The realization that he would act with such audacity, even with two hostages at stake, sends a shiver down her spine.
Finally, she speaks, her voice laced with caution and a tint hint of fear. "You win. We'll find a way to resolve this peacefully and no more deaths."
Before Bellamy or anyone else could say anything Clarke step forward. "If you want a doctor, I'm not as good as my mom but I'm definitely better than any of your people. However, if you are adamant about getting her I can show you where she is in exchange for letting everyone here in peace."
When I heard that, my heart hurt, and my stomach shrunk. What in the seven hells is she doing? But before I could show my unwillingness of letting her do that, Clarke turned towards me and smile as she grabbed her radio.
"I love you both."
"Wait, Clarke…"
Clarke left with the prisoners before I could finish another word, and Diyoza looks over our group, voice rising to be heard. "Okay then, here are my terms. The valley is ours. Any attempt to get there will be met by overwhelming force. As long as you stay here, we won't have a problem. Is that a problem?"
"What about Raven and Murphy?"
She looks at Bellamy, nodding once. "For now, insurance." She starts to back away, yelling at the prisoners nearby. "Let's go, on me, and for the love of God take McCreary from the ground!"
Everyone moves except for one man, the prisoner whose weapon remained aimed at Octavia. Diyoza yells, "Szybunka, that's an order!"
As the man begins to back away, fueled by his frustration and anger, I barely noticed Octavia smirking at him. That was all it took for him to forget about Dyoza's orders and stop and his tracks. It becomes clear that he intends to take out his rage on Octavia, potentially subjecting her to a painful and brutal death.
Without hesitation, I raise my sniper rifle, taking aim at him. Time seems to slow down as I steady my breath, aligning the crosshairs of my scope with the target.
In that split second, I make a decision that I know might make the whole, already volatile situation, explode. I squeeze the trigger, the sound of the gunshot echoing through the air.
Not even a second later, the man's head jerks back violently as the bullet strikes, ending his life instantaneously before his body crumples to the ground.
Octavia's eyes stare at the lifeless body, as she realizes the danger she narrowly escaped. She locks eyes with me, staring blankly at me.
At the same time, Dyoza's eyes widen in disbelief and anger as she witnesses the swift demise of Szybunka.
"You fool! I warned you!" Dyoza's voice reverberates with a mixture of rage and disappointment. She shakes her head, realizing that her attempts to control the situation had fallen on deaf ears and that her authority was already stretched thin enough thanks to McCreary.
Leaving Szybunka's lifeless body behind, Dyoza, the prisoners, and Clarke strides away, leaving the ruins of what was once Polis behind and heading towards Mount Weather where she would hopefully get her goddamn doctor.
Once Dyoza, Clarke, and the prisoners left, I begin my descent toward Bellamy, Octavia, and Indra. The tension in the air still lingers, but there is a glimmer of relief knowing that immediate danger has been averted, at least for now.
As I approach them, Indra's gaze meets mine. She remains silent, not uttering a word of welcome or acknowledgment. And to be fair she had all right to hate me for how many of her kin I have killed over the short year we were at war. However, I push past the discomfort, focusing on the reunion that awaits.
As soon as she saw me walking towards them, Octavia smiled and walk forward. A mix of emotions washes over her face, and without hesitation, she opens her arms wide, pulling me into a tight embrace.
"Leon, I can't believe it's really you," Octavia whispers, her voice filled with genuine joy and relief. "I thought... I thought I'd never see you again."
"I'm here, Octavia. I'm here now, and I'm not going anywhere, how are you holding up?"
She let out a sigh, wanting to answer me further, not that I was going to push her.
