Chapter 163 - Post Praimfaya Chapter 12

Clarke and I made it out just in time to see a person wearing some kind of radiation or space suit leaving the prisoner ship with a small device in their hands, no doubt used to gauge the radiation levels on the surface.

Once the person in the suit got a clear reading on the radiation level, whoever has inside put the device away before removing the helmet, revealing a woman in her mid-forties. The first thing she does after she removed her helmet was to take a deep breath before turning towards the ship entrance. A few seconds later quite a few people wearing the same similar style of clothes exited the ship, carrying all kinds of guns, most if not all of them quite futuristic looking.

Thought they were slightly bigger than anything we currently had, and to be honest that scared me. Usually, a bigger gun means a bigger caliber being used and that's not good for the receiving end. Once a group big enough gathered outside of the dropship, the woman that came first took half of the prisoners before leaving in one direction, while the rest of the prisoners went to check the other side.

With the prisoners out on the move, Clarke and I left the area to the nearest safe house that we made in the past five years. It was nothing too extravagant, but even a simple hidden cave could be proven helpful in the right situation and as such, we choose to make a plan there. No matter how much we brainstormed there was no way for the two of us to fight so many armed foes, not even if we tried to guerilla warfare our way through their numbers. Even if we somehow send some of the dinosaurs towards them, that would only make them warier while inflicting minimal casualties on their side.

Sadly, time wasn't on our side. Just as I grabbed another clip, a gunshot was heard making both of us exchange a look before dashing outside, before it was too late. Why? Because it was a pistol that has been fired and not an assault rifle.

By the time we reached the place where Madi was hiding, we found her on the ground surrounded by two prisoners aiming their guns at her. One of the prisoners was injured, but in all honesty, Madi was by no means a great sharpshooter and she only grazed the man. While the other one seemed unharmed, but sadly for them, they turned their back towards us.

"Cover me, Clarke. I'm going to get Madi out of there."

Clarke nodded at me just as I sneaked my way toward the prisoners. I was by no means the sneakiest person alive, but living in the forest for so many years forced me to learn how to properly sneak around a target so that I could hunt it. A minute later, I was behind one of the prisoners and before either he or his partner could react, I plunge my knife into his neck dragging the man to the ground. His friend froze when he saw me and before he could turn his rifle towards me, my knife found its way into his head, killing the man before he could do something stupid.

As soon as the second and last prisoner died, Madi run and hug me, crying. I quickly check her body for any injury and thankfully, she didn't have any. Not long afterward, Clarke makes her way to us taking her daughter in her arms, and hugging the poor little girl as if there was no tomorrow.

"What happened?"

"One of them found my hiding place and the next thing I know they dragged me out."

"Did they call anyone?"

Madi shook her head, telling us that none of the prisoners were smart enough to report back to their leader that they found her. Nevertheless, it would only be a matter of time before they realized that two of their men are missing and when that happens they would get ever more vigilant than they are right now making fighting them harder.

"We have to get into a trap if we ever want to chase them away."

"How will we do that, Leon? They have both the numbers and the guns to overcome whatever we throw at them."

"Princess, oh princess sometimes I wonder if you fake being dumb just to humor me. Do you remember Madi's trap that she put in the clearing across from the west ridgeline?"

She threw me an angry glance before she answered my question with one of her own.

"Yes, what about it?"

"Well, Madi and I kind of transformed that place into a literal mining field filled with all kinds of traps and makeshift mines. If you get a prisoner deep in the death zone and into a trap, the others will go looking for him. We can wait them out at the ridgeline with our rifles, and pick them off after the first prisoner hits a trap. That way, not only will we create panic amongst them, but we will also be able to take out some of them before they return fire."

"That sounds like a good plan."

"I bet on that. You two go ahead and wait for me there, I'll take care of the bodies so that the prisoners won't find them."

"Be safe."

Don't do anything stupid."

"Don't worry about me, girls. I know what I'm doing."

'At least I hope so.'

Madi was about to argue when Clarke dragged her away, not wanting to open that subject, especially not now when someone was coming for our home, the place we lived for over five years. As soon as Clarke and Madi disappeared, I dragged the bodies toward the nearest place where some of the carnivores' dinosaurs were.

After I took care of the bodies, I returned to the village just in time to see the same woman that first walked out of the dropship leading all of the prisoners into our village. Since I didn't have a death wish, I climbed on the nearest tree and choose to observe the prisoners as they split up to search the places for us. It didn't take them long at all for a few to break into groups of two or three heading towards the woods and that was the chance I was waiting for.

Rather than going for a group of three, I decided to take on pair of prisoners. My targets were two idiots that look anything but sober as both of them had trouble walking straight and at quite a distance away from each other. Soon one of them stops beside a tree, trying to catch his breath as I sneak up behind him. Once I was behind him, I put my hand on his mouth to muffle his scream while I slit his throat before slowly lowering his body to the ground.

Unluckily for me, his partner turned just in time to see me lowering his friend to the ground and just as he was about to grab his walkie-talkie, a knife flew from my hand into his shirt, tucking the man onto the nearest tree.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you."

The prisoner nodded his head in fear before dropping the walkie-talking on the ground, fearing that I might just kill him if keeps holding it. The next thing he saw was my fist coming toward his face before he was knocked out. With him being knocked out, I put him on my shoulder before making my way to the death zone. I have to admit that despite what I have done years ago, it didn't feel right to impale the man on one of the traps like that, so instead of doing that I bind his legs and arms before tying the man to a pole in the middle of the trap invested valley.

Leaving the man behind, I quickly made my way towards Clarke and Madi, who by now should be up on the ridgeline waiting for me. By the time I reach them, the man woke up and as soon as he realized that he was tied up he start to cry out for help.
