Chapter 148 - Chapter 146 - Stranded

As if they heard me, two grounders, each check a door and as soon as they saw me, they tried to reach me. Sadly, for the one that look through the door that was in front of me, he didn't even manage to react in time as my bullet hit his head. The other grounder froze in fear and before he could comprehend what just happened, I turned around and snap his neck killing him as well.

Since they already know that I was here, there was no point hiding any longer. Once I was out of the truck I notice six grounders surrounding me while two more were standing behind Clarke and Bellamy, keeping them hostage just in case I somehow manage to take out all of their friends. Unfortunately for me, just as I was about to shout for Murphy, I saw another group of four grounders dragging Murphy and Emori from the back towards Clarke and Bellamy, most likely for the same purpose.

Seeing that my options were limited, same with my bullets, I decided to drop the pistol, besides those six bullets won't help me all that much. As soon as the pistol hit the ground, one of the bulkier grounders throws a punch toward my face, catching me by surprise. When his fist connected with my face, the man smiled, but not even a second afterward, he was sent flying hitting one of his friends that stood behind him.

Rather than giving them any time to prepare themselves, I charge forward, but just as I was about to hit the closest grounder, I felt something tangling around my legs, forcing me to the ground. When I turned around, I saw the ugliest son of crispy critter I ever saw in my entire life smiling at me as if I was some sort of juicy prey for him. That particular ground took a knife and slowly dragged his body towards me, seemly excited about what he was about to do to me. Before he could even reach me, I ripped the rope that was on my legs and sucker-punch the man in the gut, sending him to the ground.

Just as I turned around, ready to fight the other grounders, I heard Emori screaming that the grounders were here for the suits and not for revenge as I thought, they were. Nevertheless, no matter what purpose they were after, losing those suits would mean death, for everyone other than Clarke and me, at least in theory, considering what Abby had done back at the laboratory.

I wasn't the only one who got distracted by Emori's scream, the same thing happened to all of the grounders and because of that, I managed to grab the knife that the ugly grounder dropped. Once I had the knife, I launch myself forward and plunge it into his neck. The poor man falls to the ground, holding his neck, while his friends watch in shock and fear as he was dying, completely forgetting about the guy who inflicted the wound on him. Out of nowhere, an arrow misses my head by a few centimeters hitting one of the grounders in the chest. In a matter of seconds, one by one, the grounders fell to the ground with an arrow sticking out of their chests.

Surprisingly enough, once she was free, Clarke runs towards me, trying to catch her breath, while I, on the other hand, was still waiting for the shooter to make its presence known, considering he or she did help us.

"How's everyone?"

"We're okay."

After I heard Bellamy's answer, I put the knife away and look over at the masked figure that was standing beside the truck observing us. When that person saw me looking over, she lowered her bow before removing the scarf that was covering her face.

"I've got to say, you are definitely the last person I would have ever thought would come to our aid. However, it's still a welcome change for once. Thank you, Echo."

"I'm just returning the favor, after all, your people are saving my king. At the same time, I have heard about your bunker on the island. I just saved your lives, and I'm hoping you will return the favor by allowing me to live in that bunker."

"In the past, I would have either killed you outright or sent you away, but now, with the end of the world breathing down on our necks, I'd rather not kill even more than necessary. Besides, you did help us, and for me, that grants you the right to come with us."

Hearing my words, Echo's eyes show some hope, but that hope was quickly shattered by Bellamy who just checked the truck.

"Sorry to disappoint you guys, but unless we can get another ride, none of us is making it to that island."

Before anyone could react, Clarke remembers something that might just save our lives. "How could I forget Monty? We left the rover at Arkadia!"

"Good thinking, Clarke. Let's contact him."

Bellamy quickly runs into the truck and grabs the radio, at the same time Clarke, John, and Emori also follow him, fearing that if they don't follow him they would lose their only chance for survival. Meanwhile, I looked over at the spy, who unsurprisingly stood a few meters away from me, most likely still scared that I would torture her again. While she was once an enemy, now was not the time for reigniting old grudges, especially when I noticed quite a few patches of redness on her face. No matter how much she hates me, I would not stand by watching "an ally" die because of her stubbornness or in this case her lack of knowledge. Just as I was about to pull down her hood and see how badly injured she was, Echo flinched taking a few steps back.

"I know that we didn't quite get along, and even after that, you didn't seek revenge, but do you really think that if I was going to kill you, I wouldn't have done it already?"

For the first time since we met here, Echo froze as I push her hood back revealing a rather shocking discovery.

"Princess, we have a problem. Echo already has burns on her face."

"Keep her away her skin covered for a while, Leon. We have an extra suit in the back. I'll go get it."

When she returns with the suit, I together with Clarke help her wear it, securing it and making sure that the suit was put on correctly so that her already badly burned body won't get even worse.

"I don't know if Leon told you, but this suit will prevent you from getting worse. It's the best we can do right now. Also even though it is uncomfortable, you'll get used to it."

At this point, it doesn't matter what we were before, yet at the same time, it matters what we are now. As confusing and without context as it is, I still feel strange helping what I once considered an enemy, but to be honest being in the woods, without a vehicle at hand to escape from here and with the death wave coming for us, saving someone was the least I could do to at least redeem some of the killings I've been doing ever since I've stepped foot on Earth.

We each took turns calling for Monty and as the hours go by and nothing other than static came from the radio our hope was slowly plummeting, even more so as the sun was slowly setting in the sky. After what felt like an eternity, Monty's voice comes through the radio.

"Clarke, come in. Do you read me?"

"Yes, Monty, I read you. Where are you?"

"We are close to Mount Weather."

This wasn't good for us, but in the end, it was way riskier for Monty to turn around and came after us.

"Everything okay, guys?"

For a few seconds no one had the courage to tell him the truth, mostly because we all knew that Monty would come after us, despite how dangerous that was. In the end I choose to be the one to talk and tell him the bad news.

"Well Monty, we are stranded. We were attacked by grounders and unfortunately our truck got wrecked by them. I hate to do this, but we need your help."

"We're on our way. Tell us exactly where you are."
