A few hours after the Ark was blown up, my friends as well as Byrne and Roan stood around a table as we all waited for Clarke and Kane to figure out what we do now that we lost the last place where we could have saved the grounders. Just as everyone was starting to get impatient by how long it takes for Clarke to reach the meeting room, the door opens and Kane walks in.
"Sorry, for taking so long, but the situation isn't good at all. Sectors, 3, 4, and 5 sustained the worst damage out of all of the others sectors. We lost the server room, all of our processors and life support systems, and half of our living quarters. Now, backup power will keep the lights on at night in the rooms that survived, but the ark will have to run without heat or running water. And from what Raven here told me, there's no way to restore it or reseal the ship before the radiation gets here."
Everyone shook their heads and stare at the map of Alpha Station, and the big blocks of red that now cover most of the map, specifically telling us where the damage was and how bad it was.
"Is there any good news? Or do we just retreat to Mount Weather and seal it?"
Hearing my question, Kane let out a sigh before he looked at me.
"Well, no one died as of yet. Some are quite badly injured, but thanks to the rovers and trucks we managed to quickly send them back to Mount Weather where Jackson was already waiting for them."
Before anyone could ask Kane anything else, Clarke walks into the room, smiling before stopping beside Kane.
"Forget Ark. It was never going to save all of the grounders anyway. We need to focus our resources on the Nightblood solution. Is the fuel loaded?"
"It's in process, but, Clarke, it isn't gonna be an easy ride. Especially thanks to what happened when Roan and Echo left the army."
"What do you mean by that? Did something happen yesterday?"
Clarke turned to face Roan, knowing that the danger stems from Ice Nation, making the prince sighs in regret.
"Since it was no longer a secret that Praimfaya was coming, I sent Echo and my army back to Polis to keep the peace…"
"That's good. We need peace to distribute the cure once we have it."
"Let me finish, Clarke. More than half of my warriors deserted on the way. With the end coming, they want to be home. I don't blame them for that, but once they start to panic, it would only get worse."
"Do you blame them for burning Trikru villages as they go?"
"That's funny, coming from you, out of all people Bellamy. Didn't you and your friends do the same thing a while ago?"
"Enough, we didn't gather here to argue amongst ourselves! Everyone knows that the woods are a war zone. And after the attack on Ilian this morning, I can't spare many of the guards to protect you."
"My warriors can protect us."
"Thank you, that's very generous."
"We are all in this together now." Roan looks you all over once, before he turns to leave, signaling the end of the meeting. Kane glances between me and Clarke, and asks, "Can I talk to you two?"
We both nodded, as everyone was leaving the room. As soon as we were the only ones left, Kane turned serious, as he looked at us. "I'm coming with you to the island."
"You can't."
"Clarke's right, Kane, there's no way you would be able to leave now out of all times."
"I'm the Chancellor."
"That's why you can't."
"Think about it, after everything that happened and how many of our people got injured t trying to help the grounders, our people need you with them, now more than ever. I know you're worried about Abby and before you start to deny it, everyone knows that the two of you are together. Kane, please have some trust in us. By the time everyone's inside Mount Weather, we would be done making the cure."
"She's going into space…in a 100-year-old rocket. Do you have any idea how many things could go wrong?"
Clarke takes over, more knowledgeable about the discussions from Becca's Island than I was. "Raven says the rocket's intact. She'd like a little more fuel, but as long as we get her what we've got, she said she'll get them both back down safely. Look, we have to try, there's no other way of saving the human race other than this. I know you are worried, but I'll send her your love."
He smiles at her, nodding in thanks before letting out a defeated sigh. "Yes, please do that. And I'll make sure there's something left to save…when all of you get home."
To be fair I felt quite the third wheel right now, since unofficially Kane kind of became Clarke's stepfather, thankfully a minute later we left the room. As we were walking towards the rover, Clarke glanced at me, before turning to look back in the direction of the Chancellor's office.
"I know that this doesn't matter to you all that much, but from your point of view, do you think Kane is good for her? For my mom, I mean."
"I don't exactly know Kane all that much from before Earth, but I think so. I mean he's come a long way since landing down here a few months ago. "
"I can definitely agree with that."
By the time we reached the rover, Roan and everyone that was coming with us were already waiting for us. As soon as Clarke was beside Roan, she turned and faced the prince. "We're going to lead the way in the Rover. You and your men will ride in the truck with the fuel."
One of Roan's men, who was standing beside him, overhears this and immediately protests as he tries to grab Clarke. "The King of Azgeda follows no one."
Thankfully, for the man, Roan turns to him and stopped the man from getting himself injured or worse killed.
"It's all right, Seiku. It is best we stay out of sight for now. There are quite a lot of clans that hate us and now out of all times, they would do anything necessary to satisfy their anger."
Seiku calms down after he heard his king's words and stepped away slightly, but his gaze was still lingering on Clarke. For some reason though, the man seemed scared of even looking at me. Not even when I was about to grab him did the man even glance once at me, instead, he either kept his eyes on the floor or on Clarke. Nevertheless, now wasn't the time for fights, and rather than angering the Azgeda, I decided to pacify the situation in the best way I could.
"It's time to go guys. The sooner we reach the island the sooner we can save all of our people."
