"We can't pursue her anymore!"
"Damn those Azgeda warriors!"
"Call down you two, especially you Monroe. Let's find another way, what do you say Leon?"
"We're losing her, besides, if the Ice Nation gets their hands on her, then another war would break out." "Zoe, relax. We have to save our energy, not to mention that Sergey's right."
"The army will move soon, and while I'd love to fight against them, there's no way we three could take on more than a few hundred grounders on open ground."
"So what are we going to do now?"
"Wait for the army to pass or if two are ready, we can always take a short detour and go the long way around."
Realizing that there was nothing they could do, Zoe and Sergey sat down on the ground still looking at the grounder that had taken Clarke away. Meanwhile, I went to the closest tree, still regretting letting that man live, back at Niylah's home. We could have killed him easily, but at the same time, our friend plead to let him live, not wanting even more bloodshed to happen because of her. Though I have to say, I was surprised to hear that Clarke and Niylah shared the same bed a few times since she decided to run away from her mother and all of our friends.
When I asked Niylah about Clarke, she didn't know what it meant to her, moreover since it was the first time she slept with a woman. Shaking those not-so-bad though off my head, I continue to tap my leg anxiously against the ground as I observed the army slowly moving through the open field.
Yet, one thing was still unclear to me, and while she'd made it clear that she wanted to be alone, apparently she didn't make it clear enough. As I was looking at the grounders, I spotted something in the corner of my left eye. The moment I put the binoculars on that spot, I couldn't hide my smile as it grew wider, making my friends look at me in horror. Both of them knew that smile and every time I smile like that, everything goes to hell, but for me, those are the benefits of being me.
I turned and looked at them, keeping my smile as wide as I could, making both of them frown in sheer confusion and disbelief at what I may do.
"I spy with my eye, something that starts with A."
"For the love of everything, just tell us what you saw, Leon!"
"Tsch, you are no fun, Zoe. Now, who would have thought that our friends that remained back inside Camp Jaha would be on the other side of the army hiding, alongside our teacher, Pike? And since Kane and Byrne are with them, I can only guess that they too are after Clarke."
"So what's the plan?"
"Even though we only rested for a few minutes, I reckon it was more than enough for us. Let's get our princess back and bring her home."
As we made our way towards Clarke through the field with the help of our ghillie suits, Bellamy had the same idea, though not the same gear. He crawled next to a dead Azgeda warrior that was left behind, probably thanks to the grounder that took Clarke away and ripped off the warrior's gear, throwing it around himself, making him look more like a grounder than anything else. He also grabbed the sword that was in the Azgeda's hand, and put it on his belt, ready to be used if the situation calls for it.
Meanwhile, we noticed Bellamy making his way through the Azgeda-infested field, and he almost screw himself when an Ice Nation warrior stopped him quickly and turned him the other way. We were ready to interfere in case the grounder was about to notice that Bellamy wasn't part of their merry band of savages, but thankfully for all of us, the older Blake managed to fool the warrior, earning himself a safe passage to the other side where the bounty hunter took Clarke.
Once we all were safe and away from the Ice Nation army, on the other side of the field, inside the forest, I decided to play a little prank on my friend. We followed Bellamy as he followed the tracks Clarke and the hunter left in their path. To be fair, our princess did make our job a lot easier and arguably her captor's life hell.
We follow at a safe distance from Bellamy until he came to a stop next to a pair of stairs that were leading underground. As soon as we saw him weighing his choices, we all smiled before each taking one of his sides while I went behind him. Unfortunately, Bellamy didn't hear or noticed us at all, making our prank even scarier for him.
As soon as I was behind him, I pressed the muzzle of my rifle on his back, causing Bellamy to freeze. The poor guy was waiting for the bullet to come, only to be stunned when he heard us laughing our asses off and saw his expression.
"Jesus fucking Christ! You fucking jerk! "
In his defense, I earned myself a beating, I was sure about that, but still, seeing that the ones who ambushed him were his friends that left almost four months ago, Bellamy relaxed before he once again cursed us.
"What the hell did you do that ?"
"That's the way you treat your friends that just returned?"
"You bet that's how I react! You three scared the daylight out of me!"
"Sorry, Bellamy, though it's also your fault for being so easy to track. We saw you before you made it into the field. "
"Yeah, Leon was aiming at any grounder that walked in a three meters area around you."
"As much as I would love to stay and catch up with you guys, we have to save Clarke. She's down there, most likely together with the man who took her."
"Then what are we waiting for?"
"No, Sergey, we can't blindly go down there. That bounty hunter is definitely waiting for us or at least for Bellamy to save Clarke so that he could ambush Bellamy. As much as I would like to switch places with him, Bellamy, you'll have to take one for the team."
"You take him down as soon as he hits me, you hear me?"
"Sure thing. Don't worry, the worst thing that could happen is us carry you back to Kane."
Bellamy slowly descent inside the underground room, while we stood a few meters behind him, not revealing our existence until necessary. As soon as her eyes saw Bellamy coming towards her, Clarke tried to scream, but the piece of cloth that was in her mouth made her attempt almost futile.
Just as Bellamy was about to take the cloth out of Clarke's mouth, a man walked from behind one of the pillars with his bow ready to shoot at Bellamy. Sadly, for him, before he could release the arrow, I hit the back of his head with the gunstock, making him lose consciousness.
"Hopefully he won't have a concussion when he wakes up."
Meanwhile, Clarke stared in disbelief at us as we walked out of the darkness, and for a few seconds, she barely recognized our voices before Bellamy lighten her confusion.
"Leon, Monroe, and Sergey are back."
"Wh-what are you doing here?"
"Our older Blake almost made himself a martyr by foolishly going down here alone. Thankfully, for both of you, we were around otherwise, the bounty hunter would have won. "
Zoe quickly went to Clarke and help her, while Sergey decided to watch the stairs in case some of the Ice Nation warriors stumble upon this place by mistake.
While Zoe was patching Clarke's minor wounds, Bellamy and I tied the hands of the bounty hunter in case he woke up before we reach the cave. And to our surprise, the man didn't take a long nap before he woke up. When he realized that his hands were tied, the hunter resigned to his fate, while glancing at Clarke, who was talking with Monroe.
"Fancy meeting you. Care to tell us, who are you?"
The hunter turned to his side while glancing at me and Bellamy before letting out a sigh.
"Roan."
"Just Roan? Not a title or from where you are? Or why did you capture her?"
"There's nothing worth mentioning. I failed and now I'm your captive. No matter what you do to me, I won't say anything else other than my name."
Seeing that our prisoner wasn't going to talk, Bellamy dragged me away from the grounder. "What are we going to do with him? Do we kill him or do we release him?"
"That depends." I pointed at Clarke, as she kept looking at the man who caught her with some pity, making me believe that he may have revealed more to Clarke than just his name.
"By the way, where's spacewalker?"
"Finn? Abby locked him after his sixth escape attempt. That was one month ago. We all tried to go and search for you guys, but Abby used every means necessary to keep us inside the walls. She even resort to brute force when we didn't care about her warnings."
"Ouch, that must have sucked."
"You have no idea. So, what have you learned that made you change the subject?"
"Oh, nothing, really."
"Sure thing. C'mon Leon, you know that neither one of us can lie so rather than doing this pointless game, can you tell me?"
"Clarke may know more about our friend here than he would have liked."
"Then can we just ask her?"
"Do you think our princess would reveal to us why he was rather gentle in the way he took her?"
Suddenly, we heard Clarke's voice calling us. We both walked in front of her, not knowing why was she in such a hurry.
"Bellamy, Leon, thank you for coming to save me, but can you four, let Roan take me back to Polis?"
We all looked at her, waiting for an explanation, but she just looked at us with that "I'm sorry, but I can't " look on her face, making us sigh.
"Sure, go ahead. "
"Thank you, Leon. I'll explain later why."
"You don't need, Clarke. We are coming with you, right Bellamy."
Bellamy only smiled in response making Clarke regret asking us to let Roan take her away.
