Chapter 80 - Chapter 79 - By the grace of my rifle

After Bellamy greeted his girlfriend as well as his friends, he slammed his stuff onto the roof of their vehicle, forcing Raven, who was under the car doing the weekly check, to let out a shout while sliding out from underneath the car.

"Hey! Take it easy!"

"Mornin' to you, too."

With a grunt, she lifted herself up from the floor while Bellamy unloaded a bunch of guns from his bag. Miller walked behind him to get into the truck, and as he did, Bellamy threw a rifle at him. Miller caught it but frowned.

"What's the point if we can't shoot them? Or did Kane change his mind?"

"We can. Just not to kill. That goes for everyone. But our mission today is not to create trouble, instead, we have to find who's ranking up the kills in the past two weeks."

"Let me guess? We are the errand boys for the grounders now?"

"Well, Azgeda may be part of the commander's coalition to some extent, but they are at large against everything related to us. By the way, had anyone seen my sister?"

"We're going outside the wall. You honestly think she'd miss that?"

Bellamy shrugged, knowing that what Harper just said was true, Octavia won't miss this opportunity for nothing, especially if the rumors are true. A few moments later, Monty walked straight up in front of Jasper and threw a bucket of ice-cold water in his face, causing the drunken teenager to gasp from the sudden gesture. With a blank stare, Monty sighed.

"Sorry. Was that too cold?"

Jasper didn't respond well to it. Instead of talking it out like a rational person, he took the other route. He screamed in Monty's face and gripped his friend's jacket, slamming him hard against the truck with a wild look. Everyone turned with concern, and behind the shelves, Monty flinched and clenched his fists so hard he felt as if he were drawing blood from them. He expected something more to happen, but instead, when he looked up again, he saw Jasper back away as he moved toward the guns. Bellamy stopped him, before dragging the weapons away from the clearly drunk and suicidal idiot.

"Sorry, Jasper, but you don't get a gun, not until you are sober."

"Don't need one anyways. I just need something else to end it then."

He raised his hand in a salute but then reached out and punched Bellamy's face, turning around and stumbling over to get into the truck. Almost all of them expected Bellamy to fight back, but instead, he let Jasper go and then nodded at Monty, handing him one of the last guns. Meanwhile Raven shook her head, finding it odd that Bellamy, who had somewhat taken over Leon's way of dealing with idiots and highly dangerous people, let Jasper go without consequences, but thought no more of it, after all, they now have a chance of getting back the three idiots that left the camp because they didn't like Abby.

At the same time, inside Azgeda's territory, one of the biggest raiding parties was having their worst nightmare since their war with the Icelanders.

Ear-pitching and ground-shaking explosions raged through grass, trees, and undergrowth. Shrapnel, bullets, and wood chips buzzed through the air, producing debris cuts and wounds on every Azgeda within range, some minor, others disabling, but most were the final thing the warrior saw. My group was dressed in what the rangers call ghillie suits engaging every single group from the Ice Nation in guerrilla-style combat. As for why we do that…well let's just say that we found one of their camps when we were coming back home and it wasn't something I would like to see ever again.

All along the forest, the grounders and their warriors scramble away, trying to find cover behind or under anything that may keep the invisible monsters from filling their bodies with lead.

"Move! Don't stay in the open! Keep going! Don't drop your weapons!"

You could hear the fear in their voices as more and more of them were dying by the minute. This wasn't our first time ambushing the Azgeda as they call themselves, but it was definitely the biggest group we fought against until now.

Peace or not, let's be honest, Azgeda wasn't listening to that opportunistic leader of the whole grounder population. Besides, no one, other than the Azgeda was suffering from the daily ambushes, so for us, it was a win-win situation.

Thanks to Sam's and Gustus' training all three of us become better than anything Camp Jaha had, not to mention that the training also forced us to develop a new style of warfare for those grounders. They had fought against guns, no doubt about it, but this was the first time, they didn't even know from where the bullets were flying or how many enemies they were against.

Letting out a war cry from behind the enemy, surrendering to the passion and the fury, Sergey charge towards the already broken warriors, firing rounds, shooting from the hip like he was part of some action movie. However, that's who he is, no thinking when fighting, just killing. No attempt to pick out the source of hostile fire, when they even had the courage to fire their bows. Blasting away at anything that might conceal a gook. Thickets, clumps of grass. It didn't matter. The enemy would die before they could even bother with those things anyways.

What was left of the Azgeda's force banded together trying to make a run, so I shot at their legs, forcing their retreat to stop and hit the ground, hoping that our bullets would fly above them?

The Azgeda had laid their defenses before they camped with sentries and traps, but that didn't stop us from using our rifles from distance, picking up the warriors one by one before the chaos took over them. A bush moved in my peripheral vision. I swiveled the knife that was laid next to me and cut down on it. I nodded with satisfaction, maybe even glee, when dying shrieks of pain erupted from it. I had to fire another burst into the bush for good measure because if I learned something from Sam, that was that never believe that an enemy is dead unless you saw it with your own eyes.

Suddenly an explosion echoed in the forest, followed by the loud noise of something heavy falling to the ground, then silence…

Monroe and I walked out of our hiding position since the enemy wasn't making any noise other than the occasional yelps and moans of pain.

As we walked towards Sergey, I couldn't get used to what a gory mess our bullets left. I looked at Zoe as I felt her hands grabbing my arm. Her hands were trembling, after all, it was not a good thing to stop and look at what you had accomplished after a battle.

I took her away from there, walking near Sergey, who was sitting on a fallen tree.

"I'll bet we're the only ones to ever kill grounders by dropping a tree on them."

"That we did…"

"What's the matter with you two?"

"The gore that we left behind."

"Ah, sorry. I'm trying not to look at what I have done. Until now it's working."

Just as we were about to continue our conversation, we all heard an engine roaring somewhere close to us. It seems that our two weeks vendetta may just end today if we wait for Camp Jaha to find us.
