Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - We all have regrets

Morning caught me by surprise since not only did my body feel exponentially better than last night, but I could even move without too much discomfort. Looking around the room, I only saw Monty struggling to make something in a corner, I guess they put me on the top floor so that I could rest, how thoughtful.

Just as I was about to get up, I saw Monty panicking when he saw me struggling to get up.

"No, no, don't do it, Leon, you are injured. Stay still, at least until Clarke comes and checks your wounds."

"Fine, I'll wait for our princess."

"Thank you and sorry for not helping you back there…we…"

"Don't Monty, you weren't a coward and even if you guys tried to help, the grounders would have killed you all, before you could even help me."

Monty didn't say anything after he heard me, but I could see that he was glad I didn't hate them for abandoning me when I needed their help the most. Like I said, no one could have survived if they tried to help anyways.

Shortly after that, Monty returned accompanied by Clarke and Finn, who looked slightly worried for whatever reason.

"What's the problem spacewalker, haven't seen a wounded guy yet?"

"I'm not worried about you, right now, Bellamy's our main concern."

"What happened?"

"Finn, let me check his wounds then you can catch up with Leon, and you, I heard from Monty that you almost got up. Do you know how hard it was for us to sew that big wound? So you better listen if you don't want to bleed to death."

"Roger that, princess. I'll be less active if that's what you want, but I won't stay here doing nothing when an army could be marching towards us from all we know."

That shut Clarke for now at least, but knowing her, she will find a way to keep me entertained up here. It didn't take her long to check my wounds and change a few bandages, before she reluctantly gave me the green light to come down, but not before warning me to be careful and not force myself more than necessary.

As soon as I climb down on the bottom floor, I saw Octavia yelling at the poor guy for ignoring her, guess she was busy these past two days finding herself a boyfriend immediately after her last candidate got kidnapped. I don't blame her though, heck, maybe I would have done the same, who knows?

When she saw me, she gave me her usual smile, before storming off outside, most likely going after her brother. Poor guy must be hard being the bad guy for all of his life.

I moved past Octavia's ex-boyfriend, walking out of the ship, only to be greeted by what I could only describe as a factory. Everywhere you could see dust, kids running from here to there carrying various tools or logs, digging holes for the trees that they cut so that they could extend the wall, some were making better spears, a small team was skinning the snake that I've killed and finally, I saw Bellamy arguing with Octavia.

"Because of you, Atom won't talk to me! "

"You are my sister, my responsibility! I told you not to get close to any boys. He disobeyed me and paid the price! "

"Next time you want to become the leader, keep me out of your fucking power play!"

She didn't bother saying anything else after that, leaving her brother behind. Bellamy looked conflicted, but that didn't seem to make him apologize to her. When he saw me, his face quickly showed how surprised he was, after all, he was one of the first people to see how badly injured I was when they found me.

"The burden of being a big brother, huh?"

"You have no idea. How's your wound by the way? Did our princess give you the green light or did you sneak out of the dropship?"

"I was bored and she decided that a little bit of walking may actually be good. Think I can help anywhere in my condition?"

"Finn told me that you made a weapon for yourself, before the incident. Can make some more?"

"Give me one or two people that aren't retarded and you'll have quite a few spears by the end of the day. I also wanted to ask you, if you have sent people hunting?"

"Finn made three teams of four until now we didn't have any problem, but today, one of the teams didn't come back at all. I'm planning on sending someone to check their route, maybe they could find what happened."

"Or they walk right into a trap. I don't know what to say, Bellamy, this whole thing seems way too fishy, especially right after you guys brought me back."

"I don't like it either, but, right now we can't just stay hidden here. I already have three volunteers: Finn, Wells, and Clarke."

"You are letting our only doctor leave the camp?"

"I can't lock her up either, besides, Harper can do some basic first aid."

Suddenly, Bellamy signaled me to follow him inside the tent where he sleeps.

"Sorry for that, but I don't the others to hear what happened wherever the grounders took you. I know that face, you are regretting something… How many, Leon?"

"At least nine, I don't know if the tenth survived. I-I didn't have a choice. It was either them or I."

"I know, I know and I won't say anything about this to anyone. This will remain between us, we all had done something we aren't proud about to survive."

With that our conversation ended, and I didn't want to continue talking about anything right now. Bellamy told me where to go if I'm able to at least instruct some of the delinquents on how to make something at least killable.

Meanwhile, Clarke, Finn, and Wells left the camp to find where our missing hunter team went and what happened to them.

"You know, Clarke, you should, uh, really rethink this whole hating me thing. It's not just the Grounders. We're surrounded by criminals. We need each other more than ever. We're gonna be friends again."

"You got my dad killed. We won't be ever friends again, you hear me!"

"This is Earth, Clarke. Anything's possible, people can be forgiven for what they have done."

"I'd let it go. She won't listen to you and I don't think Clark's going to forgive you anytime soon."

"You say? Just so you know, I've known Clarke her whole life better than you ever will, so, I'll decide when to let it go.

"From my side, I can tell you guys are close."

Suddenly Finn stepped on something metallic, scaring all three of them for a second. Seeing as nothing happen, he stepped once again making the same loud noise, before quickly uncovering an old car buried in the ground. With the mystery unraveled, they decided to continue walking rather than stopping and admire an 100 years old rusty car.

Back at the camp, I stood and watched Bellamy gathering a small hunting party and as much as would have loved to go with them, my current situation wasn't actually going to make me that useful. Rather than being a nuisance for them, I'd rather do something more helpful back here, such as instructing the delinquents to make better weapons and how to make the wall sturdier, after all, we had more than enough spare metal to reinforce some parts of the wall.

Soon after the hunting part led by Bellamy left the camp, Jasper approached me, almost doing something as stupid as slapping me on my back. Thank god he didn't have to use his goggles to see or else I would have been bleeding in the middle of our camp from friendly fire.

"Leon, how are you doing?"

"Still alive, you know what they say: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. What's on your mind, Jasper, I know that look, my mother always had that face when she was troubled by something."

"Sigh, I want to make some moonshine, but I don't know if Bellamy would be in favor of having alcohol here."

"Jasper, we can use the alcohol for many things other than getting drunk. Clarke could definitely use something to sterilize the wounds, tools, and bandages further reducing the chance of infection. And if Bellamy says something to you, send him to me and I'll resolve your problem."

"Thank you, Leon, I mean it. See you later, I need to go now, our moonshine awaits."

At the same time, deep in the forest, Bellamy's team managed to hunt a boar, but unfortunately, they weren't alone. Some grounders were watching them, but before they could do something, a horn was blown in the distance, scaring all of the members of the hunting party.

Faster than they could react, a thick green fog appeared from within the forest, quickly making its way toward them.
