Dinner was quiet for the most part. Katniss and Viktor didn't speak much unless spoken to. They ate quickly and left almost immediately afterwards. After they were gone, their father sat down and sighed heavily.
"That was a long day," said Yakov.
Ait Margos nodded. "I know. It wasn't the easiest thing to start off our vacation, either." She looked up at Yakov. "Is there something you need help with?"
"There will be plenty of work to do," Yakov told her. "For now, all I want is a nap."
"Oh," said Ait Margos. "Do you have a room in the house that you can use?"
"Yes, in the basement," said Yakov.
"Okay," replied Ait Margos. She glanced down at her plate for a moment.
"Is there anything else?" asked Yakov.
"No, I don't think that' s it," responded Ait Margos.
"Alright." Yakov pushed himself up and went upstairs.
Once he was gone, Ait Margos put her fork down and sighed. She picked up her phone and sent a quick message to someone. A few seconds later, her phone pinged and showed a new text message notification.
Unknown Number
Hey! Are you still awake?
Unknown Number
Or maybe you already fell asleep... haha :/
Ait Margos giggled slightly as she typed her reply.
Ait Margos
Sorry. Just thinking about school.
Ait Margos
Did you need something?
Unknown Number
Ummm yeah, actually.
Unknown Number
If u can, come down to the basement in 15 mins.
Ait Margos
Okay. Can u come downstairs now?
Unknown Number
Sure, I'll be there. See ya soon, kiddo ;)
Ait Margos chuckled again. Even after a month, he still called her kid. She shook her head, wondering how anyone thought this guy was her dad. He acted nothing like him. Maybe he was adopted.
Ait Margos packed up her stuff and headed downstairs. Yakov and Viktor had already retired for the night.
"Here we are," said Ait Margos as she entered the basement. She looked over toward Yakov's bed. As she did, she noticed that there were several boxes on the floor beside the bed, and one of them was open.
Ait Margos approached the box and examined it curiously. Inside, she found an assortment of toys. Some were wooden carriages, some were horses and some were boats. There were books and puzzles. There were dolls and figurines. But there was also food and money for whoever used it. Ait Margos stared at it with wide eyes as she wondered why he would take so many toys.
