Chapter 2 - Bloom into Spring Chapter 2

Primrose ran out," Stop, this man is innocent!" she yelled to the group. Everyone turned to look at this strange woman who was running at them like a madwoman. The only person who seemed unfazed by her entrance was the accused man who was currently on fire.

"Please calm yourself, stranger. This man is a menace to society who used the darkest of magicks against our town's fair women," the mayor of the town said calmingly.

"No, you are the ones who don't understand. A wizard can not lie. It is the price of the ungodly power they possess." Primrose said, her eyes frantically flickering between the burning man and the mayor.

As though on cue, the burning man screamed," They were all willing. They wanted to fuck me as much as I wanted to fuck them!" The flames were so big now they completely blocked him from view, but his words were as clear as crystal.

The townspeople started to look at each other confused, but the women looked terrified. The mayor's daughter quickly grabbed her father's arm," She's obviously lying! She must somehow be in cahoots with that wizard," she said, desperately tears streaming down her face," That man perverted us, tricked us into doing things we would have never done otherwise."

For a moment, Primrose thought she messed up, but then the mayor's daughter looked at her, her eyes were completely devoid of tears, and had the most resentful look on her face.

The mayor however only saw the increase distress of his daughter, "Dear lady, please free yourself from his dark influences. My daughter was able to rip herself out of his domination by her own will and then save her fellow womenfolk." the mayor said.

"Did she manage this miracle before of after she got caught?" Primrose said coarsely. She could already tell the answer in the faces of the wizard's "victims." There was no difference between them and the Prince; they were willing to ruin people's lives to save themselves rather than face the consequences of their actions.

"How dare you! I see now that you're that devil's whore. Grab her!" The mayor said, gesturing to some large men in the crowd who started towards her.

Primrose got into a fighting stance, ready to take these men down when the accused man let out a pained scream reminding her that she had yet to rescue him. She ran past them to the woodpile. She used her sword to scatter some of the flaming logs towards the onlookers. They immediately started to disperse, some running to their new attacker while most just ran screaming int the woods. Now that Primrose was so close to the pyre, she could see the wrenched state the man was in. He was unrecognizable from before, his skin was charred and peeling, his white hair was burned to his scalp. He had lost all his strength and was just hanging limply on his pillar, still alert enough to feel the burn. His blank eyes showed his resignation to his faith.

'Shit.' Primrose thought. He was in no condition to help in his own rescue. She looked back and forth between the men coming after her and the burning man, desperately trying to come up with some type of plan. She had nothing so she decided to do what she always did when faced with insolvable problems, charge straight forward.

Primrose squared her shoulders took a deep breath and backed up a few steps. Steeling her will, she ran and jumped into the heart of the flames, knocking the man over and onto the soft grass on the side of the pyre. Inadvertently as they fell, Primrose's lips got smashed onto his. As their lips touched, the man's eyes opened wide, he ripped the apart the burnt ropes that bound him and wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight against his body. Before Primrose could so much as blink in surprise, they were both engulfed a flash of blinding white light.
