"What did you think you were doing arguing with Charlotte and Selena?" David Flinn asked as soon as Moses closed the door behind him. But Moses remained silent on the matter. This was the first he was entering his father's chambers all his life and he was amazed at how beautiful it was in there with so many art pieces and paintings all over the place; whoever designed this was definitely a genius and he would contact them when he was ready to start a family. The place looked like the palace of Zeus because it was so white in there. The walls, curtains, the bedsheet, chairs and every other furniture was either white or gold or silver. The only black items in his father's chambers were the electronics and this made him want to laugh out loud. Since they wanted to live an all white life, one would expect that even furniture and electronics in their possession should be white. "Funny set of people" he said to himself.
"Did you really think you stand a chance with those mischievous duo? Well... I'm sure you know better now." Moses heard his father say this and watched as he moved to his special rocking chair and sat down. He gestured to Moses with his hand to sit down pointing towards a chair close to him.
"Have your seat." he said and Moses did as his father had requested after thanking him.
"Now, I know you have been wondering what's going on that I asked you to come to the White Mansion and indeed, there is something going on. You are now well over thirty years old and it is only right that I bring up two issues to you. The first is the fact that you are long over due to join "The table" and I know I have never mentioned it to you that's why I asked you to come. The second reason is that I believe it is time for you to get a wife and settle down. And as a matter of fact, there's someone I would like to introduce to you, she's very beautiful and the daughter of my very good friend. She just came into the country some weeks ago and has high expectations of meeting you in person. So what do you think?" Moses adjusted in his seat and smirked. He couldn't believe he traveled all to this place to be reminded of the need to get married and to be told he has to be a member of "the table". His father obviously understood he wouldn't have listened to this if it had been on a phone conversation. He cleared his throat and began "I have heard all that you said, but the truth is, I don't think I am considering marriage at the moment. As for the girl, of course we can be friends just like you are to her father as you have said. But I wouldn't want to go down the path of marriage yet. Secondly, I don't think I have any reason to be a member of "the table" as you have requested. I have never cared that it exists, neither have I shown any interest in it's activities. Selena seems to have her eyes on the position and so I think you should probably consider giving her that spot if it's so important that your child must be a member." His father's face turned red in anger when he mentioned Selena taking his place.
"How dare you insult me? Have you forgotten that I am your father? Or have you lost your damn mind? Do you think if it was okay for Selena to take over from me I would ask you to do so? Now you listen to me young man, that group was founded by my Great-grandfather Martin, who eventually left the responsibility of the group to my grandfather Josh, and he passed on the responsibility of the group to my father, George who when he became too old, passed on the responsibility to me. Now I am getting old and I want to put you in my place so I can teach you all you should know before my retirement day comes and you are asking me to put Selena, a woman? Do you want me to be the one in my lineage to break the cycle? Look it is not a request, it is a command from me to you and you must come forward as soon as possible so that we can commence the necessary proceedings." Moses stood up from his seat and as he was about to make his way to the door, his father stopped him.
"Hold it right there! Are you planning to walk out on me?" Moses stopped and turned to his father and then he said
"Dad, I'm sure you already know that I am not the little boy you once used to intimidate? I am a man now and I have every right to make my own decisions. I will not marry yet and as for the issue of me joining the table, it's a hell no from me Dad. I want nothing to do with your group and I don't care if it's an age long family responsibility, I want nothing to do with it. As a matter of fact, I do not like white now because of how much your group has abused and I can't imagine spending the rest of my life with a one particular color. I don't know why you are offended by this suggestion, but I will still reiterate the fact that Selena would be more than happy to step in your shoes." and having said this, he took more steps further to leave the room.
"Moses, let me make this clear to you..." His father began getting up from his chair and Moses who was almost at the door stopped walking "... Marie will be coming to here tomorrow to see us and have a look at our place, you will be responsible for taking her around the mansion. You will not embarrass me before my friend and his family. As for your membership to the table, you still have time to think about it." Moses turned to look at him and then proceeded to leave the room.
