Chapter 1 - Traveling Along A Winding Road

Louis can't remember anything. Can't remember his home, his parents, his age or where exactly he is. He has some fuzzy memories. Possibly him laughing and playing with maybe his parents? He can't tell, it's so distant.

He doesn't even remember how he got in the forest or how long he's been there. He knows he was 8 years old waking up in the woods with no recollection. Of anything. He knows he's a werewolf and he knows his wolf's name is Alea. But he doesn't know how old he is. Doesn't know if he was abandoned or he if he got lost. But if he was simply lost wouldn't somebody have looked for him? But how would he know, he's been alone all this time.

Louis also searched for his way home for days. But he couldn't remember anything, even smells. So searching was futile. All he had was fuzzy memories. Thankfully he's not truly alone. He has his wolf, Alea. She has been his saving grace. Louis knows that if he wasn't a werewolf he would probably be dead now. Thanks to Alea he was able to learn how to hunt and gather. Omegas are actually rather good at hunting. Mostly small creatures but it's better than eating nothing. And of course there are berries and such but that can only fill you so much.

They also found a home. Well, a little hollow in a tree but it's better than being rained on. Alea's not sure how much longer Louis can hold out like this. It's already been 10 years. Of course wolves are more resilient than humans so they can go longer without human or werewolf contact. Doesn't mean they should though.

And if you're wondering (cuz you are), Alea can't remember anything either. She shares the same body as Louis. She may be a wolf spirit but that doesn't come with perfect recollection. She's lived many lives and honestly this is a first for her. In a boys body (she thought she'd change it up) that is.  Louis is one of her favorite lives thus far. Such a sweet and kind boy. She's loved these last 10 years in the woods, playing, sleeping, living... But she knows Louis needs human contact. He needs to feel the hands of a loved one. He needs to feel the safety of being with others of his kind.

And while Alea doesn't know Louis's exact age either, she knows that he's around- well, actually passed the age of mating. She needs to get him to his kind. She knows there's probably a pack SOMEWHERE near by. But she could never get Louis to leave his hollow tree, his comfort zone. However, she knows if she doesn't Louis could die of loneliness. Especially if you get too far past the mating age. Thankfully Louis is only two years past. Plenty of time. But if they don't get a move on soon.... Alea never wants to experience that ever again. It was just the one time and she intends to keep it that way.

Currently Louis was sunbathing in a field, soaking up the sun and imagining happier days. Maybe he and his mom had fun? Or maybe he played with his dad? Maybe, someday soon, he'll feel that love again. Or some type of love. But at least he has Alea. Alea knows how to make him smile and forget about sad things. Like not having anyone physically. He loves Alea. And sunbathing and chasing butterflies and snow! Even though it can make him really cold it's so pretty and so fun to play in!

Speaking of butterflies, there goes one now! It's black and blue and so pretty. Louis must chase!

  Louis wait, spoke Alea.

But- Alea, pretty butterfly, whined Louis.

I have a better idea. What about finding a new home?

Louis' nose immediately scrunched at the idea. Find a new home? What was wrong with where they are?

Why? asked Louis.

You need to be with your own kind. Not alone. We've been here for far too long Louis. Been alone for far too long. Don't you want to be around and play with others?

Play?

Yes! Play! There a places called "Packs" that have others like us. We could play with other Omegas. Maybe find a mate.

Louis blushed. Alea had told him some time ago about mates. He did admitt that playing with others instead of by himself did sound fun. Maybe he could feel that warmth again that love provides.

Louis bit his lip with worry, Where would we find a Pack?

Let me take over and see what I can sniff out.

Wait! Right now!?

Louis it is imperative that we find a Pack and soon. Louis doesn't know what imperative means but the tone of her voice makes him comply. She'll take over and he can sit back and watch. He was already in his wolf form, he is most of the time, and she takes over. Louis can feel his eyes go from a gentle blue to a hazy purple.

Aleas knows she should've gotten them to leave years ago. She supposes she's been a little selfish, enjoying the fresh air and solidarity. Even though wolves are social creatures they do enjoy alone time. Obviously a little too much alone time for Alea. Well you live 800 or so odd years and sometimes you wanna try somethin' new. Ain't notin wrong with that. Until she remembers dying of loneliness. It was some odd centuries ago.
