Chapter 32 - Frustration

The next day, Hannah struggled to get to the office. She hadn't slept the whole night because of the load of work her annoying boss had given her. She had managed to finish all her work and she prayed that her day would go smoothly, hopefully without any work.

When she finally reached her cubicle, she dropped her bag on the table and sat down with a thud. 'I will rest for a bit before going to see him. She thought, but it seems today was another bad day for her, not just today, but every day since she had met with Axel. The red light on the telephone system started flashing and she almost cried out in frustration.

She stood up weakly, took the files and walked to the door, she knocked lightly íand he answered shortly. She turned the knob and walked into the office, seeing the two men who were in their usual positions. Her eyes met Camden and suddenly, she felt bad for him. She had only worked for one day and she already felt like she was going to die while Camden had been working for Axel for God knows how long. The only difference between the two of them was that she was extremely worn out, while he was still standing with his back as straight as a pole. Maybe he has gotten used to the work along with the stress that came with it as time passed but she doubts that she would ever get used to it. She had suddenly developed a lot of respect for Camden. When his eyes met hers, she bowed her head slightly in a silent greeting.

Hannah placed the files she had in her hand on Axel's table and said, "I am done with these". She said in a barely audible voice but she was sure that Axel heard her because she was standing right in front of him.

Camden quickly went to the files and started searching through them. When he found the document that was different from the others, he picked it up and opened it immediately. His eyes wandered through the file urgently and he had a stupefied expression on his face. As the seconds passed, the surprise on his face grew to the point that he already had his mouth opened without him knowing. He raised his eye from the files and looked at Hannah for a moment before returning his gaze to the document in his hand.

Axel, who was waiting for Camden to speak, was getting impatient and the look on cames face didn't help matters at all.

"Leave!" He ordered. Hannah didn't even wait to be told twice and left the office immediately. She needed her rest and she wasn't going to get it if she kept standing inside the office with her annoying boss and his assistant.

As soon as Hannah left the office, Axel stood up immediately and collected the files from Camden. As he read through it, he soon understood why Camden had that look on his face.

Hannah had done the work perfectly, there were no errors, not even a single one. She had done it exactly how Camden would have done it or like he would have done it. He dropped the file on his desk and looked at Camden who had a smile on his face.

"Why are you smiling?" He asked and Camden's smile immediately disappeared, like it was never there.

"Nothing, I wasn't smiling". He answered immediately. His face had returned to its serious form but in reality, happy bells were ringing in his head. He was happy that someone was finally going to relieve him of some work. The thought of it alone made the smile he had struggled so hard to contain bounce back on his lips and this time, Axel didn't miss it.

"You think she did this?" Axel scoffed. He was sure that Hannah didn't do it on her own, Raymond must have helped her. From what Raymond had told him, this is her first time doing all this, so there was no way he was going to believe that she had worked on her own, and so perfectly at that.

"Yes!" Camden replied, "I gave her the files in your presence, so who would have helped her. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that you were the one who had done the work".

Axel gave Camden a dirty look. How could he say that Hannah's work was as good as his? That was akin to insulting him!

He agreed that the work was perfect but it would never be as perfect as his. Nobody's work can be as perfect as his!

"I know for sure that she didn't do it on her own". Axel argued. "Take more files like this to her later, I need to check something". Axel said and sat back in his seat.

As soon as he took his seat, axel became as serious as usual. "Take the file and start processing it, I will be needing it soon". He said, opening his laptop and started working. Camden, who was used to Axel's mood swings, nodded and took the file and left the office.

Hannah looked at the door to Axel's office and she saw Camden walking out, holding a file in his hand. She thought he was going to give her another work but she thought wrong because Camden passed by her without uttering a single word.

But she didn't care. As long as he wasn't going to give her work, she was fine with whatever happened. Looking back at her computer, she picked up her pen and continued the little work she had met when she came to the company.

Minutes later, she saw Camden again with another file in his hand. He looked at her and she looked away instantly. She knew that look. He always had that look on his face whenever he was coming to give her work. She stared hard at the screen in front of her, acting like she didn't see him coming, hoping that he would just pass by her without saying a thing like he did earlier. But Camden stopped right in front of her desk and placed the file on it.

"Good morning, miss Hannah". He greeted her with a smile. Hannah slowly raised her eyes from the screen and looked at him. Even though it wasn't evident, Camden could tell that she was very tired from the look in her eyes. He felt bad for her, but he had orders to follow.

"Here, the boss said you should work on this". He said and pushed the file in front of her. Hannah took the file and opened it. It was one of the complex ones like the one Camden had given her yesterday.

"You can take as much time as you want, you don't need to rush". Camden said with a smile.

Hannah just nodded without looking at him and after lingering around for some seconds, Camden left her all alone to her work.

Hearing the sound of Camden's footsteps disappear, Hannah closed the file in anger. She could feel tears threatening to fall from her eyes but she didn't stop them. She wanted to cry out in frustration but she couldn't. The tears fell from her eyes uncontrollably but she couldn't stop them.

Have you ever felt so frustrated that you can't do anything but cry? Yes, that is what was happening to her right now. She wiped her tear-stained face and started her work. When she was done, she took the file to axels office but he didn't even say anything. He just opened the file and looked through it page by page and after he was done, he told her to pick another file from his cabinet. She went out with the file and came back with it when she was done and he did the same thing he did you the first one, giving her more work afterwards.

This continued for a long time and finally, she could no longer bear it. She was weak both mentally and physically and she had a splitting headache. After collecting the last file, she sat down and placed her head on the desk to take a short nap but she ended up sleeping longer than she had expected.

Many hours later, axel closed his laptop and stood up from his seat. He was ready to go home and call it a night. He had already sent Camden a message and he was supposed to meet him outside. When he came out of the office, the first thing he noticed was that Hannah had her head on the desk. He thought she was just taking a short rest but when he moved closer to her table, intentionally making his footsteps loud, she didn't move from her position.

"Is she sleeping?" Axel asked, speaking to no one in particular. As he moved closer to her, he got a clearer view of her face. A side of her cheek was pressed on the file on her desk while her hair was sprawled on the other side. Her head was placed on the desk in an uncomfortable position and he knew that she was going to feel pain in her neck when she woke up. He stood there staring at her exhausted face for a while till he heard footsteps from his left.

Camden, who had waited for a long time without seeing Axel, came back in to check on him. He saw Axel staring at Hannah who was sleeping peacefully, oblivious to the happenings around her. As he walked closer, axel placed a finger on his lips, signalling him to be silent. He nodded in understanding and tiptoed to Hannah's desk.

When he got to them, he locked eyes with axel, trying to ask him what was going on. Axel stared back at him like they were in some sort of silent conversation. Camden tore his eyes from axel and sighed heavily. He stretched his hand to wake Hannah but axel caught his hand mid-air.

"What are you doing?" Axel spoke in a low voice, raising his eyebrows at Camden. Camden stared at him with a look of 'isn't it obvious?'

Axel just rolled his eyes and pulled Camden away to the elevator. When they were in, Camden spoke, "What are you doing? Are we just going to leave her alone?" Axel just shrugged his shoulders with his hand in his pockets.

When they stepped out of the elevator, Camden pulled axels arm. "Really?!" He asked in disbelief but still, Axel shrugged his shoulders and walked to his car.

"Come in or I will go without you". Camden narrowed his eyes at axel like he had grown an extra head. He sighed, giving the company a last look before joining Axel in the car.
