He raised his hand and tried to pat her head but she moves back immediately as if she had seen it coming. Raymond's smile got wider as he withdrew his hand and dropped it back to his side. He was already used to her indifferent attitude towards him but he was enjoying it. After all, she was the only one who gets to act like that towards him and go unscathed.
"The door". Her voice brought him out of his thoughts and he opened the door and allowed her to walkout
As Hannah walked along the road, she thought of how long it would take for her to complete her tasks and be free from that crazy deal she made with the boss. Just 150 more kills and she would be free. She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply before exhaling through her lips.
Something suddenly bumped into her and she quickly opened her eyes to see what it was. It was a little girl. She could guess that the child was about six years of age, but what would a child be doing on the streets by this time of the night?
Hannah squats down to meet the girl's eyes. Her bright blue eyes filled with so much energy and life, but what was she doing out here? Hannah asked herself. She scanned the area and noticed that the girl was alone on the streets. She thought that the girl was abandoned, but it didn't look like it as she was wearing good clothes. Not expensive or flashy but enough to know that she comes from a decent home.
"Where are your parents, little girl?" Hannah asked, but instead of answering, the child looked around and pats her chest while exhaling in relief. Hannah was surprised but she could tell that the girl was probably hiding from someone or something. "What happened? Why are you looking about?" Hannah asked again, but this time, the girl started to sob softly.
"I was running from those bad guys, they have been after mommy and me since the time of the morning and now I'm lost". The girl's sob became a little louder and her lips trembled.
'How ironic. She runs away from bad guys and bumps into me '. Hannah thought. She looked around to check for any suspicious movement but she found none. It seems like those bad guys have stopped chasing her. She turned to the little girl and tried to cheer her up, but even with her vast knowledge, she doesn't know how to please a child. She raised her hand and gently wipes off the tears on the girl's face. "Why were those bad guys chasing you and your mommy and where is your father". Hannah asked the girl.
"I don't know, they said that my mommy needs to pay them back or they will take me away from her, and My father has gone to stay with the angels". Hannah stopped wiping the child's face and puts her hand under her chin to meet her eye. "What is your name little one," Hannah asked.
"My name is Penelope but mommy calls me Penny". The girl replied as she wiped away the tears on her face.
"Okay Penelope, how about I take you home tonight and we can look for your mommy Tomorrow". Hannah asked, only to see the sparkles that had immediately appeared in the girl's eyes.
"Really aunty, you will help me look for mommy Tomorrow".
"Of course Penelope! so let's head to my home so we can be fully prepared". Penelope nodded her head and wiped her tears.
"Okay Aunty"
