Chapter 18 - Scared

I'm back!!! T^T

Raymond drove as fast as he could to the hospital. He knew Hannah was safe but her being in the hospital still worried him.

He had gone to her apartment earlier and saw the blood stains on the floor with broken glass scattered everywhere. Moreover, the house was dark, and he knew more than anyone how scared Hannah was of the dark. He immediately knew that something was wrong. It looked like it was done by an assassin and he was sure that it was not a member of his gang.

He ran out of the apartment and tried to contact one of the men he had stationed around Hannah's apartment to keep her safe but he couldn't get through to them. He instantly knew that something had happened to them, or else they would have picked up the call.

The whole thing angered him to no end but more than his anger, he was afraid. Afraid that something might have happened to Hannah. He didn't try calling Hannah for fear that he wouldn't like what he would hear. He knew Hannah very well, he knew how reckless she was but she had always let him know if something was wrong. He didn't get a call from her about what happened in her apartment and that was what got him scared.

He hit his hand on the steering wheel as he cursed. This was the first time he was regretting his decision when it came to Hannah. He shouldn't have allowed her to leave the basement. At least she was safe there. He was so angry and scared at the same time. Angry that another assassin gang had attempted to attack a member of his gang, and not just any person, they targeted Hannah.

There is no way on earth he would go to sleep without spilling blood tonight!

In less than thirty minutes, Raymond arrived at the hospital. He rushed to the reception and was directed to where Hannah was. When he saw her standing unscathed, he heaved a sigh of relief but when he noticed her staring unblinkingly at the door of the surgery room, he got confused. As far as he knew Hannah, she didn't care for anybody, not even herself. She is like a lifeless person. A breathing mannequin.

Raymond walked towards her quietly but she sensed him and turned her head to meet his eyes. Raymond couldn't move anymore when he saw her face. He knew that she had been crying when he spoke to her on the phone but seeing her cry, in reality, shocked his entire being to the core.

When he was rid of the shock and confirmed that she was crying in front of him, he almost wanted to jump around and dance to whatever tune he hears right now. He was so very happy.

It may sound crazy but had always wanted to see Hannah cry. He cared a lot about her but her tears made him extremely happy and it brought a smile to his lips.

The last time he had seen her cry was sixteen years ago when she was eight. Ever since that day, she hasn't cried or smiled. She just moves around with an expressionless face like a robot. And now that he saw her crying, she looks more human-like. All these years, he thought that nothing could make her cry or smile but now that she was in tears, he wanted to thank the person who was in that surgery room. He felt like taking a picture to remind himself that she was human but he refrained from doing so.

"Hannah, I'm here now, tell me what happened". Raymond asked but she cried even more and kept on saying; 'it's all my fault. Yes, she blamed herself for what had happened to Penelope. If she wasn't involved in all this then Penelope would not be in the condition she is right now.

On the other hand, Raymond didn't know why she cried again but it only increased the joy in his heart. He felt like he was going to burst from the immense happiness he was feeling.

"Have you arranged for the donor?" Hannah asked after she managed to suppress her sobs. "Yes, they should be here any minute from now". And as if on cue, some people who she assumed were doctors walked past them into the surgery room with hurried steps together with the nurse she had spoken to earlier. "What is happening". She asked the nurse. "The blood donor had just arrived and now we need to proceed with the operation. Excuse me". The nurse said and walked into the operating theatre.

Hannah didn't stop crying and Raymond could not be happier. He reached out to hug her, well, if she was crying, there is a possibility that she would let him hug her, he thought. But when he moved closer to her, she moved back, giving him a disapproving look. Raymond sighed, maybe he just had to wait a bit longer, he had waited for sixteen years to see her cry, and he could wait another sixteen years if she would let him hug her.

"Why don't you sit down Hannah, your legs may go numb". Raymond reasoned and truly her legs were numb. She walked to the seat by the wall and sat down. Raymond looked down and saw blood oozing out from her foot. "What happened to your foot Hannah? Why are you bleeding so much?" Raymond was back to his worried self, "Come, let's go treat your wound and apply some ointment". He suggested, but Hannah wouldn't budge, she didn't move from her seat as she stared at the door. Raymond knew she wasn't going to listen to him, so he decided to try something else. "You know Hanna if you don't treat your wound, you would lose so much blood and it may also get infected. It would take a huge toll on your health and the person in the surgery room will get so worried about you and maybe he might fall sick again". As expected, Hannah stood up from her seat without saying a word and went to treat her wound. Raymond smiled, he couldn't wait for the surgery to be over, so he would get to know who that person was.

After Hannah's wounds were treated, she sat beside Raymond and waited for the surgery to be over.

Raymond was uncomfortable with the silence around them so he tried making a conversation.

"So, you don't tell me who is inside the ICU". He said. He wanted to know who was capable of making Hannah shed tears.

"Penelope". Hannah replied in a small voice and Raymond's eyes widened in surprise.

In his worry for Hannah's safety, he had forgotten about the child that was staying in her apartment. He didn't even remember a thing about the child. But what surprised him the most was that Hannah was crying because of the child. He couldn't believe that Hannah had gotten attached to the child in less than a week.
