Ghost. What is the definition of it? Its denotation is that it is an apparition of a dead person that is believed to appear or become manifest to the living, typically as a hazy image. In short, it is a supernatural being. It can be a resentful or vengeful ghost in which in novels, it could take the life of a person. In other words, a malevolent ghost. On the other hand, its connotation means that it is a sort of secret that is mainly in regards to someone's guilt towards something or another person. Like making mischief that causes harm, or intentional harm that results in a grave injury or worse, loss of a life.
Qiu Si's question refers to the literal ghost – a supernatural being. But Mo Jiashe's reply to his question… leads to the connotation of a ghost. It should be.
