Mazelina froze. The red she saw faded away slowly and the world returned to normal. Turk was on top of her, his head hidden in the fur off her neck, body shuddering. To the side, she saw Anju plus most of the pack watching in anxious silence while Marth was glaring at her and Turk.
She began to shift, whimpering from the pain in her forepaw. Once a human, she nudged Turk to cover her more, but he looked up instead, a look of irritation first then relief. "Mazelina!" he gasped. She raised her good hand to his face, wiping away the tears there that shone in the sun. "You're alright!"
She then saw his chest and stomach. No tears came from her, only another wave of unadulterated anger at what Marth had accomplished within an hour of being here.
