By the time Tara was done arranging her new room, it was almost dark. Sarah had been a good source of help to her as she made sure everything was in order. The room was a very big one it was the second biggest room in the house after Lakan's study room. Tara arranged the room in such a way that it was both her room and her study room as she made sure two chairs and a table were at the corner of the room very close to the window overlooking the gate of the compound. It was part of the reason she choose the room. It would allow her to observe anyone coming or leaving the compound from her window.
Her bed was separated from every other side of the room by a curtain. She planned she will be meeting with Sarah in her room. only Sarah would have access to that room. She the rest of her team she would meet them downstairs in her open space. she didn't want Lakan to think she was going to be planning anything secretly. Her secrets will be with Sarah.
During the arrangement, Lakan only came once to have a look at what she was doing. She even hardly noticed his presence as she was busy giving instructions to the servants carrying things in and out of the room.
"You should rest and have something to eat, they will do everything you want even if you are not here," Lakan said walking in from behind her as he looked around the room in admiration. He could tell Tara had good taste from the arrangement she was making in the room.
"Thank you but I have to supervise them if not they might end up doing it again " Tara replied appreciating is concern
Lakan walked around the room for a while observing everything. Every worker in the room seem to be scared of him as their hands began to shake anytime he walks close to any of them. Tara had always known that they were scared of Lakan but she never knew it was this bad.
"You should also go and rest. You were shot yesterday and already moving around as if nothing happened " She advised him as she was not comfortable with him moving around like that.
He looked at her without saying a word before continuing with his inspection of the room.
"Who installed this fan? He suddenly asked pointing to the ceiling fan as every worker in the room stopped in their track. They all looked Terrified to say the name.
Tara looked at fhe fan and to the best of her knowledge, there was nothing wrong with the fan but from the way he spoke she was told it was because something was wrong.
" I asked a question, " Lakan asked again raising his voice a little.
"It was Idris, the apprentice of the chief electrician Sodiq " one of the girls replied with a shaky voice.
"Get Sodiq for me then " Lakan barked looking upset all suddenly
Two of the girls immediately dashed out of them as they made haste to go call Sodiq.
"What is wrong Tara asked moving closer to Lakan as she observed the fan from the direction Lakan was standing maybe it would help her see what the fault was. But she could not see anything.
Instead of a reply, Lakan kept quiet as he seem to be boiling.
In less than two minutes Sodiq was in the room breathing heavily. He was a man of Average age. Tara could remember he was one of those people she never got to talk to. The girls must have told him that Lakan was not in a good mood.
He quickly took a position in front of Lakan with his head bowed deeply
" When your apprentice was installing this fan did you care to inspect him? Lakan asked barely looking at him.
"No sir, I am...
Before he would complete the sentence Lakan rushed him holding him by the neck as he pinned him to the wall. His action took Tara by surprise.
" how dare you, I gave you work to do and you send an apprentice to do it, do you see how loose the fan is, what if it falls and hurts her, what will you say? That you are sorry? Lakan asked squeezing very tight on his neck. Sodiq could barely do anything as he just stood there seeing his life slip out of him.
Tara at this stage felt bad for him. Yes, he didn't do well if the fan was loose but then it was not enough to kill anyone. It was just a mistake.
"Lakan please let him go" she called out softly from behind him. Seeing the look on their face Sodiq reminded her of the death of her family members.
Someone was going to die because she decided to have a different room. Something that she didn't do in her first marriage. She felt guilty immediately.
"Lakan please let him go" she cried out with a louder voice this time as she took some steps towards him to restrain him.
Before she could get to him he released Sodiq who immediately went to the ground coughing seriously with his eyes red. He quickly rushed fo his knees.
"Please master, I am very sorry I will fix it myself this time, please master " Sodiq pleaded with his head on the ground too. He knew he would have to beg for his life because any mistake that can lead to an incident involving Tara would be considered a very serious crime.
Lakan refused to say anything as he walked out of the room not bordering to look at Tara. He had a murderous look on his face.
Tara couldn't believe what she saw. She didn't know if Lakan was angry because he disobeyed or because he cares about her. He almost killed a man just now for a mistake. She didn't want to believe it was because he cared about her.
"I must be careful around him, he is a beast.
