Chapter 6 - 6

Maybe if Pexy found Red Skull's secret lair she'd be able to learn more about the monsters and get rid of her own demons. After all, if Red Skull was so strong, what would stopping him be?

She shook her head and clicked on "How to Defeat Monsters: One Piece". Another website loaded, and Pexy checked that the search results were right. She found a few videos showing how to defeat a monster or two, and then she clicked on "how to slay a monster".

The video started playing, and Pexy looked away from it. She already knew what the monster was capable of, and she didn't think that watching a video about how to beat a monster would help her. Besides, she wasn't going to actually battle it.

Then, suddenly, she noticed that someone was watching the video she'd just watched.

Pexy quickly got up from her chair and tried to turn off the TV. Unfortunately, the channel changed too fast for her to stop it. Now she was watching a clip about fighting a giant lizard-like creature called 'Red Skull'.

Pexy bit her lip. She had read everything about monsters online, but hadn't paid much attention to any specific video.

The creature looked scary enough, although it looked kind of cute, too. It had blue scales covering half of its body (from what she could make out) and its teeth appeared to be razor sharp, but not deadly sharp. Its hands were claws instead of fingers, and its skin was covered with dark patches. In fact, it was basically the opposite of a human.

But why was this creature attacking a girl? Pexy couldn't even begin to imagine the reason behind a random attack like this. Maybe Red Skull had been looking for prey to eat? Maybe… Pexy frowned. Perhaps it was trying to scare the girl. Or maybe its goal wasn't to hurt her. Perhaps, it was supposed to lure Pexy out and kill her.

Or maybe it wanted her blood?

Pexy gulped. She felt very uncomfortable now.

She stood frozen, staring at the screen without blinking as the video continued on. A woman's scream filled the living room, and suddenly, the creature started jumping towards the screen. Its tail, which must have been hundreds of feet wide and twice that tall, slammed against the floor, creating a loud sound that caused pain to shoot through Pexy's leg.

She let out a cry of pain and fell forward, landing on her knees. She touched her leg with both hands and winced. This happened when she was little, when she had tripped in a big mud hole or fallen off her bike during a race. It wasn't usually as bad as it was feeling now, though, and it didn't seem as severe as it did when she was little. Still, it probably hurt.

The screen switched to a different angle, and this time it showed the girl's frightened face, her eyes darting around frantically for some sort of escape. She turned sideways and moved her legs. But there weren't any trees near the screen, so there was no way she could get out of that situation.

She screamed again.

Pexy clenched her fist tightly. She felt sick. She couldn't look at the horror of it, even though her heart was beating rapidly inside of her chest. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She opened them again and looked down at her leg. It didn't look as bad as it did a minute earlier, which she was thankful for.

Now she just needed to figure out how to escape the room before Red Skull found out that she was missing. As far as she knew, it was nighttime now; her grandfather usually came home hours after sunset, unless he had something important going on, like work. Usually when Pexy waited for him to return, he would spend a good couple of minutes talking on the phone to somebody before he finally came to the apartment where his granddaughter lived.
