Before Matthew could offer further words of reassurance, a soft but firm knock echoed from the door.
The sound was almost a relief, breaking the heavy silence that had settled in the room. The door creaked open, revealing Selene, the chief maid. Her presence brought an immediate change to the atmosphere, and all eyes turned towards her.
Selene's gaze quickly scanned the room, pausing on each face before finally settling on Matthew. Her expression shifted from curiosity to mild surprise, clearly unaccustomed to seeing him in the maid's quarters.
"I was just on my way out," Matthew said smoothly, sensing the unspoken questions in Selene's eyes. He turned back to Reina and the other maids, giving a respectful nod.
"My Lady," he acknowledged, his voice a low murmur,that could only be read from his lips before inclining his head towards Selene and making his exit.
