Ava put down her fork. 'Maybe you should go check out the building, Jack. I'll go with Amon to the gallery.'
'OK. Fine,' Jack agreed, a little surprised.
'I was thinking of going to the Bane Gallery alone, actually,' Amon said. 'If there are 'wolves there, you'll be more of a target than—'
'I want to go, okay?' Ava insisted.
Amon Blood made a face at Jack. 'Knows her mind, doesn't she?'
'Guess she does.' Jack felt himself turning red. 'Well, no time like the present,' he said, pushing his plate away. 'I'd better get going.'
'You'll need some cash for the subway, I suppose,' said Blood, removing his wallet from his jacket pocket.
'Round here, they call it the El,' Jack informed him.
'Do they? Bloody 'ell.' Amon chortled as he handed Jack twenty bucks.
Jack pocketed the cash. 'After that joke, I feel better about taking this. See you both back here later?'
