"Dr. Jaime Grayson, are you sure this will work? I mean, we barely had any time to fix all the insecure parts of this project. Don't you think it's too risky?"
Dr. Adam Collin looked at his beautiful boss. She walked to him with a smirk and crossed her arms.
"Adam, my most trusted and loyal colleague, where's the fun in a project without a couple of risks?"
"It's just-"
"Just what?"
He sighed and looked at her with fear in his eyes.
"I don't wanna lose another friend. This project is huge, but big comes together with big disadvantages. I mean, we lost 5 test subjects because of this-"
She placed her finger on his lips. She smiled and gave him a little pat on his head to reassure him that it 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 be safe. Even with all of this 'keeping-other-colleagues-calm' act, she had to admit that, yes, it worried her as well. Not just because it may or may not explode and cause a disaster in her 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗹𝘆 expensive lab, but her own sister will be the test subject this time.
"Thank you for the worrying but, I'm sure she'll be okay. If she somehow dies or explodes together with the project,"
She paused and laughed. Dr. Adam wasn't having it.
"Then at least appreciate the fact she did it for Science. Alright?"
The boy held her hand with a firm grip and looked at her.
"Please, bring her back alive and well."
Jaime's sister stepped in front of the portal and gave her a thumbs up to her other colleagues, a sign that it was her time to finally get in the portal. She stepped in and was successfully transported to another dimension. With a tracker placed at the back of her suit, they were able to track her easily.
"Jade. Jade, do you copy?"
Dr. Grayson asked her sister. She didn't reply. Another colleague ran to Dr. Collin and Dr. Grayson as he stopped in their tracks, out of breath.
"Why isn't Jade answering?"
Jaime asked the tired boy.
"We can't detect her tracker anywhere. It's like she just stopped in her tracks."
"What?"
Dr. Collin and Dr. Grayson shared with each other a terrified look before running to the office under them. Dr. Grayson grabbed a mic and repeatedly said the same question bunch of times.
"JADE. JADE DO YOU COPY? I REPEAT, DO YOU COPY?"
She looked at the portal as it was about to explode and malfunction. All the computers in the office showed the same word, error.
The portal started tearing pieces of itself apart as it sucked some colleagues out including Dr. Grayson.
"JAIME!"
Adam shouted in pain as he stood there, unable to help his sister-in-law. Jaime tried to reach for his hand, but she knew the gravitational pull of the portal was stronger than she estimated. She let herself fall into its arms as she was teleported to another universe, a universe where she would love to stay.
