32 year old John makokha was born in a very poor family in Western kenya. Age is not waiting and he has tried everything in Kenya but he can't despite being a graduate. Due to his home country's poor economy, poor leadership, unemployment, corruption, tribalism, nepotism and political instability, he can't make it to help his wife and 1 year old son. He wants to move abroad but he needs money to undergo immigration procedures for legal immigration. Since he doesn't have the money, he resorts to the illegal route via North Africa through the Mediterranean Sea. One day he meets a friend called mwangi who tells him he met a Nigerian guy who has an option to that problem. They organize and meet the Nigerian guy who tells them to look for 300 dollars to connect them to a Libyan cartel who helps immigrants move to Europe illegally. After meeting the Libyan called Mustafa he organizes the two guys to travel to Libya with fake documents. In Libya they end up in the Port of Benghazi. They are sent into an old fishing boat which is to take them to southern Italy. On their way, Sea waves overwhelm the boat and it capsizes. Almost a third of the migrants on board drown including his friend mwangi. John and a Moroccan lady Fatma survive and are rescued by the Italian coast guards. They are taken to a refugee camp on an island south of Italy. There he meets other migrants. He lives on the camp and he witnesses the horrible lifestyle of a migrant camp including some migrants dying due to diseases and malnutrition. Due to his ability to speak English fluently and organize others he is made a spokesman of the others. He makes friendship with the Italian authorities and this helps him have a good condition of living. They teach him some Italian and luckily he is offered temporary work permit and he is released from the camp. He gets a job as a supervisor in a warehouse in Milan. His life changes and he even buys a home and a car. He meets a beautiful Italian woman called Maria and they become friends. When he tries to reconnect with his wife back in Kenya he discovers she dumped the son to his mother and married a wealthy business man. He feels so bad.
