Todd and Timothy could see the unease in Wendy's expression as she returned to her seat.
Todd asked, "Did something happen in Lake City?"
Wendy sighed and replied, "I still don't have any details on what happened, but I think something pretty bad must have happened."
"Didn't Michael say they were all fine?" Todd asked again.
"The three of them are fine. It's Winnie Quinn." She looked down at the table and said, "Apparently, her condition has worsened. But I have this nagging feeling that Jake is hiding something from me."
Todd had felt the same when he picked up that phone call from Michael, but he didn't think much of it since Michael wasn't obliged to tell him anything. But since Wendy had put it this way, something really bad must have happened.
She didn't feel like eating anymore. "This will not do. I'd better go back and find out what's happened."
Then she picked her phone up and began booking plane tickets again.
