After Wendy's adamant refusal, Mrs. Lucas gave Michael a call. This outcome was both expected and a bit of a surprise and disappointment at the same time.
Despite Wendy's deep respect for Mrs. Lucas, this was the first time that she was rejecting her request. Michael felt extremely helpless.
He decided to have a good talk with Wendy. No matter what, they had to resolve this issue.
He walked out of the spare bedroom to see Wendy sitting at the desk with her pencil in hand, sketching. He knew that she had a background in design and had won numerous awards back when she was in school.
When he approached her, he saw many drafts on her desk. Michael did not understand much about design, but he thought that the drafts looked nice. Feeling rather frantic, he said, "Wendy, can we please..."
Before he could finish, he rubbed his nose awkwardly and then continued, "It's okay, I know you're busy right now. I'll come back later."
