To check for bone marrow compatibility, both parties need to undergo a checkup.
Michael returned to the ward and saw Leah fast asleep. He didn't want to interrupt her rest but he was eager to quickly finish the checkup so that he could get the result sooner. If his bone marrow was compatible with hers, they could then complete the transplant procedure sooner.
As long as Leah remained unwell, Michael would stay worried.
Michael quietly approached Leah's bedside. Gently, he shook her tiny frame and in a gentle voice, "Leah, wake up... Leah!"
Awakened by his voice, Leah rubbed her eyes and struggled to keep her eyes open.
Seeing that it was her father, her face lit up and she exclaimed, "Daddy!"
"Shall we go for a checkup?" Michael asked warmly.
"Sure," Leah nodded instinctively before asking, "What are we checking for, Daddy?"
"We're checking if our bone marrows are a match," Michael was upfront, no longer hiding the truth from Leah.
