Chapter 9 - As If A Lifetime Had Passed

Just after her grandfather's funeral a month and a half ago, Lin Wanwan was kicked out of the house by her uncle and aunt who had just returned to the country. All of this seemed to have happened a lifetime ago.

The various scenes from that day were still vivid in her mind.

Her thoughts gradually drifted back to a month and a half ago. That was the lowest point of her life.

"Wan, I've packed your things. They're all in these three bags. Can you bring them to where you live?" Xie Yuanying looked at Lin Wanwan coldly with her brown eyes, and the disdain in her eyes was obvious." You see, you've graduated from college. Our family has raised you for so many years. We are not asking you to repay us, but you should be independent, don't you think so?"

"You, you really want to sell this place? What are you going to do whenever you return to China?" Lin Wanwan's heart tightened slightly. This small villa contained all the good memories of her, grandpa, and grandma. Was she really going to lose them?

Xie Yuanying sneered, "Well, I'm not going back. Your grandparents aren't here anymore, so why are you still lingering here?"

Lin Wanwan lowered her head, her heart in turmoil.

If she sold it, the new owner would definitely change everything inside and renovate it again. The memories would be torn down, buried in plaster and concrete anew. Even if she could work hard to earn enough money to buy a house in the future, it would be of no use.

But what could she do? This was not her house, so she had no right to decide. When she sold the demolition shares to replace this small villa? Her uncle, who was still studying in a University in China at that time, specially came back to deal with it and directly registered the house under his own name. Otherwise, they would lose a lot of money after the transfer of ownership.

Her grandparents once had two daughters and a son. In the end, the eldest daughter died of illness early and the youngest daughter died of an accident. Now, only their son was left. In the end, the house fell under his name.

After that, he went to the United States to study, got married, and had children there. He would not come back for a few years. The last time they came back, it was for grandma's funeral. This time, it was for grandpa's funeral.

Other than the funeral, they also had to deal with the two-storey villa. Lim Wanwan had lived here since birth.

"Uncle, when are you going back to United States? I'll send you guys there." Although Uncle Lin and Aunt Lin had only met Lin Wanwan a few times, they were still the son and daughter-in-law of her grandparents. For the sake of her grandparents, Lin Wanwan had to grant them some courtesy. She didn't want to get into a spat before her grandfather's corpse had even turned cold.

However, the other party clearly thought otherwise.

Of course, when it concerned an orphan like Lin Wanwan, they were afraid of being shamed.

"No need. The best way to repay us is for you to work hard. We don't need you to send us off," Aunt Lin said coldly, while Uncle Lin was chatting with the buyers and agents who were looking at the house. He did not even look at her.

"Yes." Lin Wanwan lowered her head and responded.

As for repayment? She wanted to repay her, but the person she should repay was no longer around for her to repay her. What right did her aunt, who she had only met twice since she was young, have to ask her for repayment?

Lin Wanwan lowered her head. She carried one Duffel bag on her shoulders and another two in her hands, and walked out. Her pace subconsciously quickened.

"What's wrong, lil miss, what happened? Don't cry, what's the matter? It'll be better if you tell me." Through the rearview mirror, the driver looked at the girl who was crying and finally spoke, interrupting Lin Wanwan's reverie.

Lin Wanwan wiped her tears, sniffled, and said, "I'm fine."

Yes, everything was over now. This small villa would belong to her from now on!

That was where her childhood and youth were, and where most of her life took place.

Back in the rental room, Lin Wanwan happily made an appointment with a moving company. She had only rented this place for less than two months, so there was not much to move. It did not take long.

She took out the key and opened the door of the small villa again. Lin Wanwan was feeling very emotional. She took out her grandparents' portraits from her bag and hung them side by side on the living room wall again. She stared at them for a long time.

"Grandfather, grandmother, please be at ease. I will be living well now." Lin Wanwan touched the jade bracelet on her left wrist. Perhaps this was the way out that her grandmother had left for her.

Next, she looked at the things she had bought online. The things had been sent to the address of the apartment building and should arrive in the afternoon. She would go and get them when she had time. There was no rush.

After Lin Wanwan put everything away, she did a simple cleaning of the villa. No one had lived in it for nearly two months, so a layer of dust had settled in.

After cleaning up, she went to her room. Lin Wanwan pulled the curtains and looked at the time. It was already 12 in the afternoon. She put the mobile phone on the bedside table and fetched the big cloth bag that she had once purchased for her travels in the Tang Dynasty. The portal opened up at her command again.

The surroundings were very quiet, and the nightlife in Tang Dynasty town was almost non-existent.

Lin Wanwan carried a large package wrapped in a tablecloth and walked towards the inn.

In the inn, there was only a single candle lit at the bar counter. Lin Mengli was sleeping on his stomach.

When he saw her return with a big package that was even bigger than her, he was shocked. He rubbed his eyes and went up to help, saying, "Wanniang, it's so late! I thought something had happened to you. If you're going to get something, you should have asked me to come along. It's so late at night, and you're walking alone with such a big package. It's tiring and unsafe."

It was around one to two in the morning. It had been seven or eight in the evening when she left. It seemed that the flow of time and space in the two worlds was the same, but day and night was reversed, and there was a difference of about ten hours between the two.

Lin Wanwan smiled. "It's okay. I'm used to it. I'm not even afraid of mountain beasts on the mountain. Why should I be afraid of people?"

Lin Mengli said, "A man who means ill is far worse than a beast. Wild beasts eat humans to fill their stomachs, but humans cause harm to their own kind with far nefarious intent."

"By the way, is the little guy awake?" Lin Wanwan changed the topic.

The two of them had already arrived at the door of the suite on the third floor. Lin Mengli put down the package and said, "No, don't worry."

After thanking Lin Mengli, Lin Wanwan closed the door and went to bed. Perhaps because she was too tired and too excited, Lin Wanwan quickly fell asleep.

The next day, Lin Wanwan, who had not slept for long, heard a soft voice. "Mother, I want to pee."

Lin Wanwan was barely awake, so she subconsciously answered, "Yes, go."

When she felt someone climb over her body, Lin Wanwan suddenly woke up. I have a child?

When she opened her eyes, she saw Xiao Yu'er climbing out of bed with half-closed eyes. She touched the toilet bowl and obediently peed on her own. Her eyes were still closed. After peeing, she ran back to the bed, climbed over Lin Wanwan's body, and lay down next to her head, her small arms around her neck.

It was difficult to describe Lin Wanwan's feelings at this time. She felt a sudden burst of motherly love.

She turned her head and stared at the little child for a while. The little child's eyes were half-closed, but when she noticed Lin Wanwan's gaze, she suddenly opened her eyes and showed her a big smile with two sweet dimples. "Mother."

"Yes, Xiao Yu'er is so obedient." Lin Wanwan touched Xiao Yu'er's face. Her chin was so sharp that it didn't have any meat. She must fill her out for something substantial to pinch!
