Chereads / DOLA / Chapter 2 - Me...

Chapter 2 - Me...

Snoozing my alarm for the nth time, I finally gathered the courage to stand up.

"Argh I don't wanna go back to school" I complained inwardly.I slugglishly dragged my self to my bathroom, took my bath and did all other routine.

"Honey you don't wanna be late" My mom called from the living room. "Just a sec mom" I replied "damn" I cursed as I made futile efforts to dry my hair with my hand towel.

"Okay!! Now I hate my hair" I complained as I grabbed my dryer and dried my hair with it.

I kept on adjusting my clothes as I walked down the stairs. "Dola you look stunning" A voice commented from behind. I turned to see our cook smiling at me. "Thanks" I said curtly with beaming smiles and headed to the dining room for breakfast.

I'm Dola. An Afri-American... Ohhh I'm actually a Nigerian or I'm not. It's kinda complicated.I have the American citizenship by birth,my dad is a Nigerian and he and my American mom got their divorce a looooong time ago.To be sincere I'm not really affected by it. My mom have taken care of me and my brother Phoenix ever since. Phoenix is six years older than me. I'm actually 20 and in my third year in the university of Carmine in Ogun State.Yeah that's right... we still reside in Nigeria. Mom loves this place so much, Phoenix loves it here too and I think I'm the only one that's always complaining about this county and it's hot weather. It's easy for me and my family to mingle with people because my mom is actually a black American.Enough of family talk.I'm pretty good at making friends or maybe I'm not but I'm not bragging or anything but I'm one of the most popular girls in school. Don't get too excited though.I think it's because I'm a model and a social media influencer.

The horn from the car garage jolted me awake from my train of thought. "It's the young master of the Coker's family" Our butler informed.

" Baby you didn't tell me that Mike will be picking you up.... I wanted to drop my baby off for once''My mom complained. "Mom i love you" I kissed her forehead. "My boyfriend is capable of doing that"I added with a wink and zoomed out.

"Heyy babe" I called the cute poutish angry Micheal. " Don't tell me that you're still mad at me".

I murmured as I placed kisses all over his face."We still have plenty of time to date in school "I said with my feminine sweet voice in an attempt to coax him.

" On the backseat"I told the butler that carried my bag who is also almost exploding from embarrassment seeing two lover on public display of affection.

"Okay we can go on a date this weekend? "Michael asked and it was more like a statement than a question. I nodded and he smiled like a child that just got his favorite candy. Ahhh that mesmerizing smile...We drove to an airport in Benin and checked into the plane.

" What a sweet and cute couple " An old woman commented.

I thanked her but my boastful boyfriend didn't think that was enough. He went ahead to tell her that we have been dating for two years and that he loves me sooo much. I mentally rolled my eyes as he was interacting with the woman.

It's rare for Nigerians to give pleasant comments to young couples though. Everyone wants to be saints in their own world.Relationships with the opposite sex is not acceptable by most parents except their child is of a marriageable age. I shifted my gaze from my sweet boyfriend to look at the rusted roof of Benin buildings through the window as the altitude of the plane increased.

Few minutes later I woke up to Mike's intensive kisses. Embarrassed, I hid my face on his chest.

"Babe!!" I hit his chest when he made an attempt to kiss me again. He chuckled and leaned away. I raised my head up to see what was going on. The Old woman was asleep and a flight attendant served us our meal.

"Babe I need to use to gents" Mike informed. And I the expression on my face changed to a sour one.

"Did you have to say that while I was eating?? " I asked angrily.

"Whoa calm down. I couldn't have left without telling you" He winked and it made me smile.

"Next time just disappear, do your stuff and appear back" He laughed and said "okay ma'am"

I scrolled through my phone looking for what to do to kill time.

"Aunty" A feminine voice called. Although I wasn't sure who she wanted to call but I looked up anyway.

"Me" I asked pointing at myself.

"Yes na you" she replied with all smiles "I been dey look your hair since"

"Oh"

"I like the weave-on abi nah wig?" She asked.

"Uhmm it's my hair" I answered feeling proud of my hair after the problem it gave my this morning.

"Ahh you get hair oo. Like my daughter Chioma" Well I don't mind gisting with an illiterate woman for the rest if this journey at least I won't be bored. "She dey for school for Abeokuta"

"I'm also schooling in Abeokuta.Although it's a private university" I told her.

"Eeey you see. My daughter Chioma, she know book well well. Na so my madam kon say she go sponsor her from primary school to university level" I'm usually not much of a talker buh this woman seems very interesting to converse with.

"Wow that's awesome. What's the name of her school?"I asked. By now Mike was already sitted beside me and he was on the phone doing what I dont know.

"Ca.. Carmie" She struggled with the pronunciation. "E be like say nah cami abi nah carmin"

"Do you mean Carmine. As in University of Carmine in Ogun state? " I asked feeling excited that it was my school.

"You don't get am. Shey nah there you dey go?How you take know" She asked and I noticed that she is actually a very beautiful woman and seems too young to give birth to a girl that is already in the university. We talked for a while and she told me that she had 'Chioma' when she was in Jss3. Apparently, that was where her education stopped. She now works per time as a church cleaner and as a nanny to their pastor's son. Their pastor's wife offered to sponsor Chioma after seeing her mother's dedication to her work and how bright Chioma was.

"Wait why are you flying a first class from Benin? I thought you stay in Lagos?" I asked curiously.

"Na my madam been say make I follow her go meeting for Benin. As we dey go she get call say work dey for port Harcourt nah him she say make I dey go Lagos alone to take care of Junior"she explained.

" wow! She must be a very nice woman'' She nodded and smiled.

"Abi oo"

"Babe" Mike called and I faced him"I love you''

'Okay where did that come from' I blushed. My face didn't particularly turn pink, I'm black it's just figuratively.

I was about to reward him a kiss when our friends interrupted.

"Your boyfriend fine oo" Chioma's mom whose name I don't know complimented at the same time with the old woman that said"Your girlfriend is pretty".We all laughed and enjoyed the rest of the journey quietly.
