"I like you."
The two stand across each other with tears coming down their eyes.
"How..? Why..?", The man says. He is so confused. The two of them have been best friends for so long. She just stares at him as her mind goes a million miles an hour.
"It's hard not to fall for you now, Liam—You showed me what it's like to live like other people. You gave me a reason to smile and laugh. You taught me to be a better person."
"I think I'm in love with you, Liam. I don't really know what it's like to fall in love, but.. Liam, when I wake up, you're the one I think about. I look forward to talking to you again even after talking to you just minutes ago. I always wonder what you're doing. I... always wonder what you think of me."
"I wasn't this way before I met you. Before, I was just gloomy and I didn't want anybody around me. I was nothing—And you changed that."
"Liam, if this isn't love, then what else could it be..?"
"..."
"Liam, I.. I want to be with you. I know that sounds ridiculous, but.. Can we give each other a chance..?" The words had tumbled out of her mouth before she even knew what she was saying. Now, there they hung in the air between them, thick as honey.
It took Liam a minute or two to register the question and when he did, he noticed that Mikayla is already in despair. But he could tell that she's sincere, and that she wants him to say yes so bad.
"I.." Liam struggles to say his words, and Mikayla noticed that.
"It's okay, Liam. I understand." Mikayla tries to put on a smile for Liam before she decided to head back to the house.
As soon as she starts taking steps away from Liam he pulls her closer by the arm and uses his other hand to push her face closer to his, making their lips taste each other's.
As soon as their lips touched, they were both in complete bliss and Mikayla lost all sense of reality. The kiss went on for what seemed like hours and even after they broke apart it was the best kiss that either of them had ever had.
To Mikayla, it was a feeling so unfamiliar that she didn't even register when it ended until he pulled back. She looked at him with wide eyes and watched as his face fell.
"Wait.. What..?" She said, confused as her eyes darted all over Liam's face.
"I.. I'm not sure of how I feel, Mika, but.. I'd love to try it with you."
The words that came out of the brown-haired man echoed in her head. Those words made her heart race and cheeks flush, even though she was already blushing from the simple thought of confessing to him.
Meanwhile, Liam watches as the wind caresses her hair making little strands of it fly in front of her face in a magical way. He is astonished by his best friend's beauty, which he unbelievably never noticed before. Her big brown eyes, her long and curled lashes, her nicely brushed thick eyebrows, her beautifully pointed nose, and her plump lips he just placed his lips onto—he is mesmerized by her unique charm. "I like you, Mika."
Mikayla didn't have time to react, or even take a deep breath. She only had the time to notice Liam's tears that seemed to be endless. But that kiss, that kiss.. Mikayla didn't get to have more of it.
She gently cups Liam's cheeks with her hands, pulling his face in for another kiss. This time it is softer and more tender than the one they shared in the beginning, filled to the brim with affection and love, but still passionate enough. They're both smiling now as she pulls away, eyes closed and a soft smile on his lips whilst he lets go of her arm.
"Mika! Your phone's ringing." The two snapped out of their fantasy-like little world when Michael came running from the house with Mikayla's cell phone. Mika dashes to grab her phone from Michael. "It's Andre," he says.
She answers the phone as she walks far away from the two men, while they go back to the house. "Yes?"
"Didn't you say you'll be picking out a phone?", calmly says Andre.
"Yea, yea. What time is it..?" Mikayla looks at her phone to check the time—it's almost 10:00 PM. 'Sh*t. We agreed to go at 9:30..'
"9:53. You didn't forget... did you..?", his voice deep and husky.
"N-no, no. No, I didn't."
"Mm.. Well then, why were your lips smacked against that wet restaurant scoundrel?"
"Andre.. His name's Liam. You don't have to-"
"So, why?"
"Andre, where are you?" She looks everywhere to see if Andre's car is parked, or if Andre is even there.
"Look up, child."
Mikayla unconsciously and desperately tilts her head back to look up, and.. Andre's staring at her from her window. He's in Mikayla's own bedroom.
"Bingo," he says.
"What.."
"Teleportation, Mikayla." He lets out a slight laugh. "Kidding, kidding. I've been here."
"Thought I'd be having fun in your room for a bit before I picked you up, but.. I guess I heard a familiar voice that made me hide?" He added.
"Andre, I.. I'm sorry."
"Mm.. No, yea, it's okay—I understand. Thing is, though, is... when your mother finds out you're cheating on me."
"Andre, no. I-" Andre ends the call, not letting Mikayla finish her sentence.
She dashes to the door, but her phone rings once again before she could push the door open. Melody is calling.
"Hey, Melody? I'll talk to you la-"
"Is this Mikayla Lin?", asked what sounded like an old man which made Mikayla pause before the door, with her phone placed next to her ear.
"Speaking. Who is this? Why do you have my sister's phone?"
"This is the police department. Your sister has been brought to the hospital about 40 minutes ago. We're sorry t-"
"What hospital?"
As soon as the police mentions the name of the hospital that her sister is in, Mikayla runs to her car. She decides to call her family on the way.
She arrives at the hospital approximately 15 minutes later.
"Melody Lin," she hurriedly says to the nurse as she catches her breath.
"Mikayla Lin?" A police officer stands next to her, making eye contact.
"Yes, Sir. Where's my sister?"
Mikayla's family arrive, and they stand behind Mikayla before the police officer.
"This way, please." He leads the family to where Melody is, while everyone is sweating while they race with their breaths.
"I apologize we couldn't call you sooner, Miss Lin."
The group stops by the operating room. The family gets nervous as they watch that nothing happens to the door. What happened to her, seriously?
"W-why is my daughter in this room? What happened to her?" Theresa asks as she steps forward.
"Your daughter was ran over by a car. That left her with a few broken bones and open fractures, and the accident took her quite a lot of blood, so she neees to be in the operating room for just a few more minutes. She'll be transferred to a private room as soon as possible, they said."
Broken bones? Open fractures? Blood? The group is losing control of their emotions. What if something goes wrong and Melody does not come out of that room alive? What if they don't see her again? They are all terrified for Melody.
Soon, the doctor comes out of the operating room and tells the family everything they needed to know.
When it was time, Melody was finally transferred to her own room. The family was relieved to see her breathing.
Problem is, it's 2:00 AM and Melody hasn't woken up for hours. Once again, the family is losing control of their tears. They want to talk to Melody as soon as possible.
Liam sees Mikayla look at her sister in her hospital bed in tears. He decides he wants to hug her, but Andre does it before him.
"It'll be okay," says Andre as he hugs his girlfriend tightly.
"I miss her," says Mikayla.
Feeling disappointed, Liam quietly goes to leave the private room. He turns towards the elevator. After a little wait, he arrives to the first floor and he sits on the ground next to a wall. He remembers that look of pain and sadness in Mikayla's eyes, which makes him want to embrace her.
Later, he snaps out when he hears a familiar voice coming closer to him from the hallway. When he realizes the voice was Andre Huang's and he was talking to someone else on the phone, he rushes to hide behind a chair.
"Oh? That's good."
Liam did not plan to eavesdrop on Andre, but his attention was caught when Andre let out a scary yet seductive laugh with his husky voice.
"Hm? Oh, yea. She hasn't woken up yet. Quite sad she still has a chance to, but I must say you did a wonderful job, Trevor."
