Chapter 1 - Something in the woods

The steering wheel glocks. Tires pressed on the muddy brown roadway, a pick-up truck painted blue screeches on the road surrounding its sight with just forest and rustling bushes, trunks hovering the dead leaves on the rocky ground while the lights from the truck stood still on its path. Although the moon gave a shimmer on the quiet night, darkness still took half of the pavement.

Randy Reyes, tough in his thirties, with broad shoulders and muscles firm in nerve pulps. His palm held tightly on the wheel, the sweat on his bald head slowly dripped down alongside Randy's gulping throat. On the greyish window, as he stared with his brown eyes, while a long mist of smoke pressed on the windshield, something also stared back.

The grey mist grew from the trees, crawling its way onto the bumper and along with it, big shining green eyes stared at Randy, a huge black figure rose upright, tin elongated arms like the six-legged hairy arachnid appeared, He wanted to run away from what his eyes were seeing, but the deliveries are not going to walk and sit in front of the houses they are destined to.

His palms were soaking as Randy held the phone to call but realizing the signal had no bars, he dropped it near the truck's pedals.

'Damn it…! Damn it…!' He whispered to himself, trying to reach his phone with his trembling hands. Accidentally Randy honked the horn while his left hand reached down. He sat upward and tried starting the truck. The engine roared perfectly like it used to, smoke coming from the back blurted, Randy smiled and looked straight at his bumper.

Big green eyes were staring at him, it was reflecting on the windshield and this time it was close to the truck's bumper. The mist covered the whole scenery in the woods, no trees, and even the path wasn't visible to the eye, all he could see was the living skull of a huge wolf with moose horns, flickering its tongue like a snake, ready to strike at any time.

Minutes felt like hours while Randy looked at the thing in front of him. An ounce of sweat from his head swam down his shirt, his pale face which he could see on the windshield, along with the thousand green slit eyes looking at him.

Yellow police tapes all circled the truck's silent spot on the side, angry drivers trying to squeeze their way onto the road were not successful as they thought. Some were screaming 'we're gonna be late for work' while their hot coffees were in their hands.

The Sheriff and Police still stood near the truck's side, with no damage, no broken breaks, windows were not even shattered. 'Hey, Edgard!' The Chief called out one Policeman taking pictures of footprints of a bear pressed on the mud leading down into the forest.

'Y-Yes sir?' Edgar pushed his glasses in the middle.

'What do you think happened to that driver?' The captain replied, side to side they stared at the opened door in the driver's seat.

'It's really bizarre sir...I don't even believe it at first but...here we are…'

The forest clouded with the furious wind that made the branches sway, dead leaves gushed up and down as the two officers stared at Randy Reyes trying to get out of the vehicle but the cracks on his body were all it took to make him stop. Randy's head facing in front while his lifeless grey eyes still staring at the windshield.

'Our only problem now is…' the Captain crossed his arms. 'How are we going to move a statue…'
