Chapter 38 - Origin of The Half-Orcs

Evelyn continued to tell me what she had seen in the demon territory.

My guess was that the demons were internally divided into different categories as well.

Firstly, there were the demonic creatures without intelligence. Because the Demon King was gradually reviving, they turned from animals to demonic creatures. After turning into demonic creatures, their intelligence decreased further and they became monsters that only attacked humans.

Moreover, they were still constantly being born, and they were spreading to areas where humans were active. They were also the main target of the hunts by Mages organized by the kingdoms near the northern border.

There were two types of intelligent monsters.

One was the peaceful faction that farmed and hunted. They were unwilling to fight humans and were more willing to fight for peace.

The other was the war faction. They were also intelligent and believed that humans and demons were natural enemies, and only one could exist. They would pick out and tame some dark-attribute monsters to help them fight.

With both sides keeping each other in check, there was relative peace between the demons and humans and an all-out war did not break out.

The act by the human race's upper echelons of sealing the news of the peaceful demon faction and preventing ordinary people from knowing about the existence of the intelligent demons were obviously to maintain the ordinary people's hatred towards the demon race.

The former Demon King had left behind a huge disaster for humans, and it had even given the goddess a headache.

Now that the Demon King was about to revive, his attitude would directly determine the relationship between the demons and the humans.

Although there were peace-loving demons among the demon race, the human leaders did not dare to use the future as a bet on whether the new Demon King thought good or bad of humans. They simply planned for the worst outcome.

The rulers of each country were basically in agreement on this point.

Judging from the fact that the goddess had Bravehearts from various worlds to suppress the Demon King, this new Demon King clearly had great destructive power. The possibility of him being a bad Demon King was not small.

"Will, do you want to know the history of slaves in the kingdom?"

Evelyn pursed her lips and looked at me again. Seeing that I was stunned, she hurriedly explained, "Of course, this is just my guess. I've just held it in for too long. It's rare to meet someone who agrees with me today. I want to share it with you."

"It's alright, Evelyn. I don't have any slaves in my family. I only found out about the existence of slaves in the kingdom after coming to Heikem. To be honest, I'm quite interested in the origin of these slaves."

I waved my hand and said.

I was in a daze earlier because Evelyn's words instantly reminded me of someone.

Elena.

After returning from the slave market that day, Uncle Herbert felt that I should have gotten some information from the slaves I bought. However, because I didn't want to see this scene, I bought Elena to do it for me.

At this moment, the world lines seemed to have met.

It wasn't the slave Elena who was giving me answers, but Evelyn, the Registrar of the academy's Student Council.

"I guessed it when I saw the ruins in the territory of the demons. There is probably another race at the border between humans and demons, half-orcs. According to my speculation, they might be the products of humans and demons…"

Evelyn elaborated on her opinion.

I listened equally intently.

In the societies of the humans and demons, there was a group of beings who were curious about the unknown world or could not integrate into their society.

Some of them wanted to explore unknown areas, while others wanted to escape from others and find a new place to live. In the end, they met in the rainforest where the humans and demons bordered each other.

Because both sides were intelligent creatures, they could think of all kinds of ways to communicate. As they communicated and understood each other more and more, another race was born.

Some of them kept the genes of either parent and had the appearance of either a human or demon.

Some of them inherited the original genes of both parents. They had human bodies, yet maintained some of the demons' most original characteristics and became half-orcs.

The human and demon societies gradually discovered their existence, and such unions were not tolerated by both societies.

So the war began.

The weak foundation of the half-orc race was far from enough to withstand the anger of the two major races. Under the double encirclement, the society established quickly collapsed, and their clansmen fled in all directions.

Half-orcs with human appearances or human bodies became human slaves.

Half-orcs with the size or appearance of demons were trained as slaves and pets by the demons. They were the demonic creatures that could use dark attributes.

"Brilliant conjecture! Evelyn, if you didn't mention that this was your guess, I would even think that this is the history of the half-orcs."

I couldn't help but applaud. From the characteristics of the half-orcs, these guesses were quite reasonable.

"I'm a little embarrassed by your praises. Unfortunately, I'm just making wild guesses. I've never thought of buying slaves, so I can't verify them."

Evelyn scratched her head in embarrassment and held out her other hand. "Look, these are the remaining four warheads, Will. I've completed your task."

"Thank you, Evelyn. This is your payment."

I took the warheads, took out the five silver coins I had prepared, and handed them to Evelyn.

"Thank you, Will."

Evelyn took the silver and beamed.

"You're welcome. I should go and see how the boss is doing."

"You better not, Will. The boss certainly isn't done yet. He's more used to forging weapons in the cellar at night. How about this? Anyway, I'll be here for the next two days. When school starts, I'll bring it to the Student Council Room for you."

"That would work. Thank you, Evelyn."

"You're welcome."

"By the way, Evelyn."

I took two steps outside and suddenly turned to Evelyn, whose eyes were filled with confusion. "If I verify your guess, do you want to know the outcome?"

Evelyn thought about it seriously for a while and laughed softly. "Forget it. If it's true, I'll hope it's fake!"

"Okay, I understand."

After putting away the shells and bullets, I walked out of the weapons shop.

I needed to rush back to the inn to make gunpowder and ask Elena if the slave situation was true.

Only after getting confirmation could I confirm why Uncle Herbert wanted me to know this information. Could it be that the Reinhardt family was related to the half-orcs?

If we were…

It would be Chris and Jennifer!

At this thought, I immediately rushed back to the inn and returned to my room.

I couldn't gather enough ingredients to make smokeless gunpowder for the time being, but I could make black gunpowder within a short duration.

Midnight.

There was a knock on my door.

"Young Master Will, I heard that you were looking for me?"

It was Elena's voice.
