Chereads / Breaking The Guardians Curse / Chapter 39 - Thirty Eight

Chapter 39 - Thirty Eight

Gwen and Chad looked at Phoebe with a confused look of their faces. "Did your mother do anything to your brain?" Gwen asked.

Phoebe stood up and their eyes followed after her. "My mother was against me helping them..."

"Every mother in their right senses would be against this too. I totally agree with your mother." Chad raised his hand to signify his approval.

Phoebe rolled her eyes at him and said, "I saw the kingdom and I couldn't bear to notice the pain the people might be going through. Think about it, their are babies, innocent kids and parents suffering for a crime the king committed, it doesn't have to be this way."

"The king brought this upon his people." Gwen answered.

"Are you saying it is okay for innocent people to suffer?" Phoebe asked Gwen but she was silent. "It would have been a different story if I was dead, then the people will have no remedy but I am not and that could mean something, don't you think so?"

Gwen and Chad couldn't say anything but reasoned with her. They couldnt deny that there was an atom of truth in what she was saying.

"I could have died...they could have killed me...slaughtered me to death or even pierced me to death...or probably cried myself to death as a baby but..." she paused a little. "... I survived. Tell me that isn't more than a reason to do this."

Gwen didn't know why but tears rolled down her cheeks.

"If I leave them like that, I would hate myself and the guardians will never forgive. I can't live my life in peace knowing that I have what it takes to help an entire kingdom. The Prince and Lucas has been here more than they should hoping to find me and now that they have found me, should I send them back just like that and make their mission impossible?"

Chad came closer to her and said, "What if something bad happens to you? "

"If anything were to happen to me, I believe it'd have happened when I was a baby."

"What about Mom?" Gwen stood up to meet her. "Will you tell her about it?"

Phoebe thought about it and her reply was, "I am keeping this a secret from mom and I'll appreciate if you do the same. This is between the three of us."

"You are playing a dangerous game, Phoebe and..."

"Sometimes, good things are worth taking risks," was her answer before she gave them a reassuring smile that all will be well. "I will go and talk to the Prince about my decision."

"Can we come along with you?" Gwen asked.

"To?"

"Havilla." Gwen answered.

Phoebe smiled but shook her head. She appreciated the fact that Gwen was willing to do this for her but then, this is her destiny, she has to do this alone. "Some ladders are needed to be climbed alone, this is one of it." She hugged Gwen and Chad and left the house.

"I know she isn't leaving now but why does it feel like she is?" she asked.

"We have to let Phoebe do what her heart wants. We can't continue to stop her."

"Let Phoebe do what?" Claudia came to meet them. "I came to some aspirins and I ended up hearing that. She looked around for Phoebe but she couldn't find her. "And where's Phoebe?"

Gwen and Chad looked at one another.

"What took you so long to come to me?" Prince Zod asked Xenia after she came in few minutes after he demanded her presence.

I happen to lost my way. Xenia said to herself but she didn't say that to the Prince but instead, she kept quiet.

"Are you prepared?" He ignored her silence and asked her.

To spend the rest of my life with a molester and an arrogant Prince? Oh yes! I've gotten my miseries ready. She didn't even know why she was saying this in her mind and not to the Prince.

"I see you are speechless," he walked her to her and tried to touch her face but she move her face away before his hands could touch her. "My father would be so excited to see a beauty like you and I am already excited to try out new things with you." While he was saying this, his eyes were fixed on her lips.

Xenia was already feeling awkward. She needed to leave immediately. "Is there Anything you'd like me to do for you, your highness?" she curtsied while rolling her eyes at him.

"See those clothes over there," he pointed to some clothes piled up on the bed. Xenia looked at the direction he was pointing at and was shocked to see the pile of cloths. She was about to talk but she kept mute. "I need them for my journey back home tomorrow so get them neatly arranged and you are not permitted to leave until you have tidy up every single one of them."

Xenia's eyes couldn't stop looking at the clothes in amazement. Did he intentionally do this to get me? She wondered. She bowed her head and went to tidy up the clothes. She picked his robe and folded them neatly inside a box.

"And make sure to separate them by colors."

By colors? Is he kidding me right now? Xenia's voice screamed inside her. She bit her lips, trying to suppress the anger she was feeling inside.

She folded the clothes and separated them colors as he ordered. Anything she cast him a glance, his eyes were already fixed on her but she found it kind of cute when he looked away.

Was he shy? She smiled. But when she realized she smiled at something Prince Zod did, she slapped her cheek and told herself to focus.

She didn't know why but she had to do it, she glanced at him again and found him staring at her. She expected him to look away but he didn't. Xenia used that moment to check him out and if she was to keep the hatred and anger aside, she will confirm that Prince Zod was handsome just that he had a nasty attitude.

Maybe he's this way for a reason and he has a soft spot somewhere? She guessed but when she remembered how he forcefully tried to kiss her, she had to admit there was no soft spot or anything. This is who he is and he's probably never going to change.

If he was different, a clone of Lucas in attitude, would she consider him? Will she be close to him? Will she give herself a chance to love him?

These were questions going on in her mind as she folded his clothes.

Prince Zod couldn't stop staring at her. If she will be mine, I will be willing to change for her. He said to himself as he watched her.
