The Heart of the White Dragon
Chapter 66: Dragons Are Not Emotional Creatures
Mother and son embraced each other there on the floor, bathed in the watery, wintery afternoon sunlight that poured through the windows. The empress's long robes flared around her like a shroud as she pressed her grown son to her bosom and sobbed. MeiLan stood just inside the door, her eyes hot with unshed tears. Her heart was overwhelmed with emotion. She was happy for Emilian and exceedingly glad for the emperor and the empress, for their family to be reunited. It must be incredible to find that the son you thought was dead was alive and has grown into a handsome, capable young man. But her joy was tempered by the sudden feeling of being an outsider. She felt like an intruder in their intimate moment. She turned her back and averted her eyes to give them some privacy.
If she could have been reunited with her mother after all these years, she would not want an audience.
