Chapter 21 (Vicky's POV)
His words hurt like a blade, I must admit.
But I have already decided to stop caring about that.
Yes, I did develop feelings for Andrew, but I was starting to think it all started before I even came to Scotland.
I also decided I will book a flight as soon as I finish getting ready for our shopping trip.
I was just hoping to catch a flight soon.
I was ready and finally sat down to book a flight.
But damn it all!
The first flight that was affordable for me was almost 2 weeks away.
I booked a ticket before this flight would get sold out as well.
After I had finished and paid for my ticket, I went in search for Amy and Marge.
I found them in Amy's room.
We were soon ready and on our way to the mall.
It was nice to be out and be able to put my thoughts on pause for a few hours.
We talked about everything with Marge, we were laughing and having fun. Even little Amy was full of laughter and, as always, full of mischievous ideas.
She almost stole some shinny shoes she liked, but luckily the sales lady was really nice.
After, we went to grab some lunch and as we were finishing, the atmosphere changed a bit.
When I raised my head, I saw Marge looking at me weirdly.
"Do I have something on my face?"
Marge just smiled at me and shook her head.
"No sweetheart, there's nothing on your face, I swear. I was just wondering how pessimistic my son is when he has such a nice person full of optimism by his side. I really have no idea. "
I was momentarily shocked, but regained my composure pretty fast.
"Marge, it's OK. I knew what kind of person he was, and I knew there was no chance for romance between us. But I must admit, I overheard your conversation this morning and your words were unfortunately correct. I did fall for him. But that's my mistake. It's not even the first time that I've fallen for someone who was unreachable to me. But I guess this time it hurts the worst."
Marge looked at me with a sad smile on her face.
"I know hun. But just remember it's not your fault. He has his own demons. And he needs to beat them on his own. No one can do it instead of him. I just hope he gets to his senses before it's too late."
After that, we returned to easy conversation and left the deep ones for other days I guess.
Even though I didn't have many more days left here, I promised myself I would take time at least once more to visit Marge before my flight home.
When we came back to Andrew's house, his car was gone, but in his place was a blue Mercedes.
I had no idea who it was, but when I looked at Marge and saw her angry face, I got a pretty good idea who it could be. And a second later my thoughts were shown to be true.
"That damn devil of a woman. How many times did Andrew need to tell her to not come unanounced? And how many times does she need to be told to return the damn key? I swear if Andrew doesn't change the lock I will."
Once we stepped into the house, there indeed was sitting Shawna in the living room, like she was at home with a glass of wine in her hands.
But this time she wasn't alone.
That a*****e of a brother was with her.
As soon as they heard the door open, they turned our way.
"Oh if it wasn't my mother-in-law and good to be nothing w***e with my daughter. I thought I'd told you to stay away from Amy. She doesn't like strangers!"
Her words didn't shock me, but what did was the fact she did not move to get her daughter after being away from her for a few days. She just sat there with her glass, shooting daggers my way all the time.
I didn't get a chance to say anything though, because Marge beat me to it.
"How many times do I need to remind you? I am not your mother-in-law. Never was, never will be. And as for my granddaughter, I'd say she doesn't like you, looking at how she is showing no signs of wanting to get to you."
When I looked at Amy, I indeed saw her clutching at me even more than she was before. I guess she already knew what an awful mother she was even at her young age.
But it was enough to get Shawna out of her wine tasting.
She got to her feet and stomped towards me, outstretching her hands.
"Come here, you little spoiled girl. What is wrong with you? Every child is happy to see its mother, only you are so ungrateful!"
Her words were like a cold bucket of ice on my head.
And that was my breaking point. She was not getting Amy. Over my dead body.
"Get away from me and Amy at this moment.
With those words you won't get near her, are we clear? This little girl deserves the best, but you treat her like she owes you something. I've seen how she reacts when she does something by mistake and she is scared she'll get yelled at. And that is all your fault. You are an awful mother. No one should even use that word for you. To you, she was only a means to an end and now that you can't get what you wanted, you decide she is useless and you treat her like that! You should be ashamed of yourself!"
I could almost see smoke coming out of her ears the longer I talked, but I didn't care. She wouldn't get Amy and she had to hear those words.
"Give me my child right away! I have every right to take her home! I am her mother, and she is here only because I allow it!"
I couldn't help. I laughed right in her face.
When I got myself under control, I said in an even tone which I could see pissed her off even more.
"I give you one minute to get out of this house, or Marge will call Knox to get you out. Now it's up to you."
I could hear Marge going through her purse to find her phone, but Shawna wasn't going to listen. It was obvious and her next words only confirmed what I already knew.
"I am going nowhere! This is not your house and you have no right to throw me out!"
I gave Amy to Marge and threw Shawna an evil smile with my next words.
"We will see, won't we? Dial Knox Marge. Let's make sure the trash is thrown out."
As soon as the words left my mouth, a hysterical shriek was heard and all hell broke free when Shawna threw herself at me.
