Chapter 1 - Prologue

She was speeding through the hills on a forest filled planet during the night. At first the rain started as a mist, then to a light rainfall. She made it to her destination just before the light rainfall turned into a straight up downpour.

She parked her bike, looked up at the sign that read, "Interstellar Inn," walked inside and took off her helmet. As she starts scanning her surroundings, she notices how empty it is and proceeds to walk straight to the counter.

"Any vacancies?" she asks as she sits down in one of the many empty bar stools.

The person at the counter, a small scared looking kid runs to the back and mutters something to someone back there. Out comes the innkeeper. He was a tall, beefy looking guy. He grunts out, "Up the stairs, round the corner and in the back. Away from my other customers."

She looked around and said, "it's not like business is booming but okay." It wasn't the first time she wasn't welcome. In her line of work, it was actually quite normal.

She proceeds to stand up, pushes the stool in and silently proceeds to the room. During all of that she had already scanned the area and located several exits and how many people were around and where they all were located.

As she gets to her room, she notices that something doesn't feel right. Something changed and so in response she changes her stance and proceeds with caution. All while simultaneously scanning and raising her senses to see if she can sense anything out of the ordinary.

She gets to the door of her room and then the sensation is gone. Everything is back to ordinary. She turns the doorknob and opens the door just a crack. She quickly scans around the door, checking for any traps. seeing and sensing none she pushes the door wide open.

Inside was a mattress set in an elaborate bedframe, a nightstand on either side, a wardrobe facing the bed, one window with curtains. The window was open with the breeze flowing through the curtains. It was dark outside due to the rain clouds. She squinted her eyes at the curtains suspiciously.

She took a step inside the room, so far nothing seemed to have been set off. She then walks into the middle of the room and starts to scan the room fully. Behind the door was a mirror that was about the same size as the door itself.

Next to the door was a small bookshelf with an odd assortment of books. On one nightstand was a lamp and the other was empty. Each had a little drawer tucked away under the top.

She went to the window to investigate that area and found no sign of any disturbance other than the wind and heavy rainfall.

"What brings you all the way out here. My lady, " says someone with a quiet but deep voice from the doorway.

She spins around and as she does so, something shiny flies out of her hand and she lets loose a tiny but sharp object that she had hidden in her sleeve. She crouches down in a defensive stance and mutters, "you gotta be careful. If I didn't recognize your voice you would have been dead on the spot."

Standing in the doorway is a tall, slightly muscular man wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. "I was warned but didn't believe it until now."

The man was dressed in faded blue jeans, a button up shirt with the top few buttons undone. The shirt had a pattern of different colored roses on it. The material seemed to be made of satin. His hair was slightly disheveled and was a shade of dark honey.

At his sides sat two sabres. Each one was a different color. One was royal blue with hints of gold. The other was a dim-gray with hints of silver. The sabres were made of the finest but toughest metals you can find in the galaxy.

The handles were wrapped in the toughest of animal hides you can find. The blue sabres handle was all sorts of different colors of blue, while the grey sabre was all sorts of gray. The blue sabre had a dark blue stone built into the hilt while the grey sabre had a white stone with swirls of grey all over it.

She straightens up and points to the wall behind the man and says, "would you mind fetching that for me?"

The man retrieves the tiny object and twirls it in his hands as he turns around and goes to speak again.

"I wouldn't if I were you. Come inside and close the door. Then we can commence with the conversation," she says as she goes to sit down on the bed.

He proceeded with the instructions and as he shuts the door he states, "my employer sent me to investigate why you are here in-person and why you chose here instead of accepting his invitation."

She straightens up and looks him in the face and says, "Claude I appreciate you checking up on me. But I am fine and do not need to be lavished on by a bunch of maids."

"I know that, Miss Ary."

"I only came here for business. I don't plan on going back." Ary sighed. She rubbed her face and she changed from someone who is always on guard to someone who is just exhausted and tired. "Now if you don't mind. I need to rest and get back to business. You can tell your 'employer' that I am doing just fine and that it's almost done."

"How about you tell him that yourself," smirks Claude as he looks past Ary

From the shadows of the bed curtains steps a slightly tall but lean man. He was wearing black jeans, a tan undershirt with a silver-grey button up shirt, tucked into his jeans. strung to his back was a red broadsword with hints of gold.

The sword was made of the toughest metals out there and the handle was wrapped in burgundy leather with a red stone built into the hilt. Across his back was a slender bow with a quiver full of white feathered arrows.

Ary quickly turns and glares at the new person in the room and spits out, "you do not need to follow me. I do not need a body guard Barton."

"We all know that, my love. But the thing is, this mission is for all of us. Together. Plus I am not going to let you do this on your own anyway. We are a team remember?"

The mission they have been set on was to track down and bring back all nine guardians to a secret location. They have gathered at least three now.

Barton was the first one of the guardians to awaken. Each of the nine guardians have been in a deep slumber until one day when the world needs them the most. Barton was so confused and lost and by chance he ran into Ary. She had awakened not long after Barton.

Ary had adjusted to this new world and was about to go get a cup of coffee from the local coffee shop, when she had bumped into Barton. She had her earbuds in, listening to music and tinkering away on her cellular device.

This was all before they even knew why they were asleep for so long and why they are being summoned to the same location. It felt like something was tugging at all of them and saying, "come to me."

While Barton was trying to figure out who was summoning them, Ary was researching everything she needed to know about this new world. For they have been asleep for centuries and while they never aged nor changed, the world around them did.

On their travels to figure out what was going on, they stumbled upon Claude. From there they were on their way to meet the fourth member of their party.
