Trishanna rode in the second van, the third following them in the early morning light. There was minimal traffic, as most people were still asleep. She barely listened to what the men were talking about only wondering if James was alright. She had texted Bradley, not wanting him to be too harsh with his Beta, but she knew she would have paced herself into the ground if she had been left behind. After all, James is her mate, even if she isn't sure how. The vehicle slowed and crawled for half a block before coming to a stop. She looked around but couldn't see anything through the darkened tinted glass. She looked to Sam and he spoke into his earpiece, letting her know that it was a mixture of both pack warriors and trackers. After the target was confirmed to be in one of the buildings, Sam reached under the seat and pulled out one of the bullet-proof vests. He slipped it on her, placing a hand on his lips, indicating that she should be silent.
Trishanna nodded, not wanting to jeopardize herself or the mission. Sam motioned for her to wait in the van as he sent out the men to scout the building. When they were given the all-clear, Sam wondered if he should leave the stubborn woman here or take her with him. Deciding that Bradley would have him skinned, stuffed, and mounted on his office wall if he let his mate out of his sight, he crooked a finger at Trishanna, signaling that she should follow him. She did not hesitate and awkwardly wiggled until she could climb out, with one of the men offering her a hand. She stepped out, inhaling her surroundings, but quickly discovered that the aroma around her was going to make her gag. Sam stepped close to her and the familiar scent gave her the fortitude to swallow the bile that was climbing up her throat. She patted him on the arm to let him know she was alright now and waved her hand, telling him to go first.
They made their way to a not-so-shabby as the others structure, three buildings away. Trishanna stayed with Sam as the others took their positions. Some entered the front, while a few went to the sides and back. She looked up. The apartment building was eight stories high. She tugged on Sam's black sweater, "Do you know which floor?", she asked quietly. He whispered "Third", and she sighed, she could climb that. She winched as she thought of the doctor's frown. Lorenzo is going to chew her ass out if she gets so much as a bump on her bump. Sam signaled and the men filed in. Thankfully they only passed a few people, one of them an old lady out walking her dog, who barely gave them a glance. Trishanna frowned, what kind of place was this? Is a large group of men dressed suspiciously in black a normal occurrence? She's definitely gonna have some words with James when she gets her hands on him.
They made their way upstairs, the men having their weapons drawn yet held as discreetly as possible. A small child opened his apartment door and saw one of the warriors, only to gently close it at his shushed gesture. The little boy around six nodded and did as he was told. Soon they were at the door with men on both sides. One of them knocked as Trishanna peeped from behind Sam's shoulder. He had one arm out protectively, ready to act as needed. A small voice whispered in her mind and she put his arm down. She felt drawn to the door and as it opened, she saw the warrior push someone inside and entered in, two more behind him. There was a soft cry, like someone was surprised and then the scent of James hit her. She rushed to the door to find him growling, crouching over the body of a woman, and her eyes pricked, memories of the past crowding her vision, or was that her tears? She spun around and headed downstairs, berating herself for coming, for being worried, concerned about his safety. She almost tripped and would have stopped but she could hear pounding feet behind her. James' voice called her but she ignored it, just like she ignored the vibration in her pocket. All she wanted was to be away from there. James caught up to her just as she made her way out of the wide doors. He grabbed her hand and spun her around. Before she could even yell or cry, he embraced her, tightly. He was so relieved that she came looking for him, even though he was so mad that she put herself and the pup in potential danger, the fact that she was here made his heart sing. He pulled back and crushed his lips to hers.
Trishanna tried to fight him off at first, but the feel and taste of him was too good. Soon her arms wound around his neck and she tugged on his hair, begging him to deepen the kiss. He pulled a hair's breadth away to chuckle, "I missed you too", he said before taking her lips again. She moaned and James felt it go straight for his cock. He pulled her closer, but it seemed like his pup was mad at him too if the kick he felt was an indication. He smiled and eased himself away while keeping her in his arms. He brushed a stray tear from her cheek. "I will never want anyone else", he whispered and she leaned into his chest breathing him in. Sam came over, clearing his throat. "If you are ready, we can head back." James nodded and took Trishanna's hand, following Sam to the middle car. He helped her up and turned, looking up to the apartment window. He saw and waved to his new found friend, mouthing his thanks. She just nodded and he climbed in, feeling a bit sad that they would probably never meet again.
