Sam stood awkwardly outside his Alpha's door. He cleared his throat as a nurse, a human nurse passed by, tossing her hair over her shoulder after giving him the stink eye. Damn... you would think he was the one getting some action with the way she looked at him with disgust. His nose was being assaulted with the sexual fumes escaping under the door and he was sure the non-shifters could smell it too. If not, the sounds of moaning and the bed squeaking echoed down the hall. The secondhand embarrassment was real. He knew that Bradley had been in some situations, but he was sure nothing could compare. Another nurse passed, this one's eyebrows disappearing into her ash blond hair. He was sure if it wasn't for the lavish payment made, security would be escorting his naked Alpha and Luna off the premises, with their photos being uploaded and labeled as perverts.
He scowled as he recalled what he saw and smelt last night as the Bloodmoon's Alpha left Trishanna's room. He wasn't sure if he was caught, but he knew that he needed to let Bradley know what happened. He knew that all that ruckus behind him was Bradley's wolf staking his claim, marking his territory if you will.
The room grew silent. Sam inhaled, but his relief was premature as they began again, this time louder. He hung his head in shame. Man... he needed to get laid. He messaged Martha, asking her to wire a handsome tip to the facility. She began to ask why, but a pleasure-filled scream from Trishanna accompanied by a shout from Bradley followed by the repeat of the word 'fuck' was enough to explain the situation. Sam could imagine the older woman's cheeks stained red and he chuckled, knowing that she would let Bradley have it whenever she got the chance.
Finally, the noise subsided and Sam's shoulders slumped. He was tired, more tired than training, more tired than fighting. He gently pushed against the barrier his Alpha had and felt a small pathway open. He just wanted to confirm if all was well and if he would allow Lorenzo to visit him.
Bradley looked down at his exhausted mate in his arms. Kissing her forehead tenderly, he told Sam the doctor could check on him after lunch. With no more issues, he closed the barrier and tightened his hold on his mate, pulling the covers over them both. Trishanna snuggled into his chest and he smiled. Closing his eyes, he felt his wolf healing the last of his wounds and smiled. He should be discharged this evening and after replenishing their energy, he had every intention of doing it all over again.
James took a drink from the vending machine on the ground floor. He just paced around the waiting area, knowing that there was no reason for him to be there, but not wanting to be too far away. He checked his watch. Three hours have passed, and he did notice Lorenzo's absence as well. Maybe the doctor came in through another door. He emptied his drink in four big gulps and tossed the can in the bin. He tapped his foot as he waited for the elevator to take him up. He checked his phone and sent some instructions to Richard and the others. At the sound of the doors opening, he stepped back allowing the people to get off. There was a funny atmosphere about them and before he stepped on, one of the nurses grabbed his arm. "Are you with the patient in Room 409?", she asked looking at him. He tried to remember the room number. "You mean Alp... uh... Bradley?" She gave a sharp nod. James rubbed the back of his neck. "You could say that." The nurse huffed, leaning in. "Listen, I really don't care who he is or you as a matter of fact. This place pays me well enough not to care." Her voice lowered, "What I do mind, however, is the fact that this is still a medical facility where children" she stressed, "do get treatment. Thank God we don't have any at the moment."
James wondered what that had to do with him. The nurse straightened, tugging on her scrubs. "Please let your friend know that here is not a place for his kinky fantasies of playing doctor to come true." With that rebuff, she spun on her heel and stomped away. It was hard to stomp when your shoes were made to make as little sound as possible.
James wondered what that was all about, but as he replayed her words, a bad feeling filled his chest. He stepped into the now empty elevator, his heart sinking even as the steel cage bore him upwards. He stepped off and immediately knew exactly what the nurse hinted at.
The scent of sex was in the air. It was even stronger thanks to his heightened sense of smell. He slowly made his way towards 409, but he knew. There was no way to mistake the sweet smell of his mate, except this time it was intertwined with the scent of his. He kept moving forward, wanting to believe that his nose was lying to him, but Sam's face let him know that he could not be a fool to believe so. He wanted to step around the Beta, wanted to torment himself more, but Sam stopped his hand before he could open the door.
"I don't think that's a good idea."
James gritted his teeth. He had to know, he had to see for himself, but his wolf hung his head in sadness. What would be the point? He could see it in Sam's eyes. He never thought the Bradley's second in command would have pity on him, and that made it worse. Did it mean he was wrong? Trishanna was not his mate. His mind swirled and he spun around, tears blinding him. He stumbled to the stairs, not able to wait for the lift. He made his way down one flight and almost fell down the next. Only his reflexes saved him from planting his face into the wall. He sat on the stairwell and allowed the tears to fall. It's been so long since he cried.
Trishanna jumped up from her sleep, a stabbing pain in her chest. She wasn't sure what caused it and spun around in fear to look at Bradley. He was sleeping soundly, yet why did her chest ache as if her mate was in pain?
