Chapter 12 - Tactical Retreat!

Running through the halls, he searched through his memories to remember what way his temporary teammates went.

...That blaster fire just gave him a hint. He was a natural pathfinder, really. An unnecessary help but he was thankful for it nonetheless.

Preparing his blasters, he turned a corner and saw his targets. Kanak, unfortunately, had a limp arm, like someone had cut its string. Colt could see his aim was off for someone who was supposedly a gunslinger for a long time.

The sweat running down his forehead indicated that even if he didn't show it, he was in pain.

Zeb was fine, though, he was busy shooting at the squad of stormtroopers blasting them.

Aiming down the barrel of his gun, he pulled the trigger. Two bolts shot forward, hitting a stormtrooper in the shoulder and chest.

Some of the troopers that noticed him focused their fire on his position and he managed to take down two more before he had to duck for cover.

Reaching into one of his belt pockets, he took out one of his special grenades.

With a quick throw, he aimed it at the wall and it ricocheted off of it. Most of its momentum gone, the grenade stopped in the middle of the troopers.

A second later, gas erupted from the canister, since the normal stormtrooper armor wasn't designed for space, they were not airtight.

It only took seconds for most of them to drop unconscious.

"They seriously need to put in more work on those armors, they don't protect you from anything."

Kanan and Zeb ran past him and Colt turned to follow, catching up to them easily. He paid attention to every path that deviated from theirs in case some tried to cut them off.

"There was another Cargo that took the slaves, there is a high chance that reinforcements will be arriving soon."

Zeb grunted but Kanan remained silent, holding his arm in place so it didn't move too much.

The two ran in silence. Colt stayed silent to focus on his hearing if there was another squad of stormtroopers nearby running toward them and the other two only stayed silent because they had nothing to say.

"Another squad incoming."

Zeb said, preparing his rifle for combat while Kanan clicked his tongue and took out his blaster.

He didn't hear anything, though...

It only took a second for it to sink in and he wanted to slap himself, those huge ears were a big giveaway, he should be able to hear better than his human self.

Not stopping his movements, he readied his blasters.

"Kid! Slow down!"

Going into a slide, he grabbed the leg of one of the soldiers coming to intercept them, tripping him, and shot the next one. Placing his feet on a wall, he pushed and slid across the floor, shooting a few more times at the group.

The sudden attack disoriented the whole group, it wasn't every day that a criminal charged at a squad in a hallway.

Since they were at the intersection, he stood up and used the wall as cover, when the first brave fool that tried to come around the corner, with his blaster raised, he lashed out, knocking the blaster up with his own and sending a blaster to his chest, by the destination of the blast, it should have gone halfway through his lung.

With a quick tug, he turned the now dying body around, using him as a meat shield for the blaster bolts.

And true to his expectations, the slowly dying man served as a great shield for his much smaller body.

Sticking a grenade on the man's back, he shoved the body forward and took cover around the corner. When the bomb exploded, he walked forward, shooting a bolt at the single trooper that he first knocked down who was later thrown across the intersection by the explosion.

They were dead.

Looking back, he tilted his head at the stunt expressions of the two.

"Come on, we don't have the ti-"

Before he could even finish his sentence, gravity suddenly disappeared and all the bodies started floating to the ceiling. Looking at the sight, Colt could only sigh, if this had happened a bit earlier, those people would be across the hall right now, blocking anyone who would have tried to get to them.

Seeing as he has suspended mid-air himself, he just grabbed a corner and pushed himself forward, using the pillars to advance even further.

He could hear the two behind him doing the same, however, unlike the lasat who could use his legs as well as his arms, he was handicapped quite a bit since he had to keep one of his blasters holstered and had to use most of his body strength to maneuver in the zero gravity.

Now that he thought about it, what he did there was quite extreme, wasn't it? He had killed before, but never went so far as to use a dying man as a meat shield.

Was this world making him Violent? With the empire making life more difficult, some force-wielding psychopaths coming after him and having a bounty placed on his head which would cause bounty hunters to swarm him if they got the chance?

...Nah, must be those video games he hasn't played for fifteen years.

"Look out!"

Reacting to the warning, he grabbed one of the hallway pillars and pushed himself to the other side, avoiding a blaster bolt that hit his previous spot.

Looking back, he could see five troopers trying to move in the zero gravity environment and a man, wearing black overalls with only a black chest plate and a helmet.

He looked quite mad if he could say so himself.

Pushing that thought out of his mind, he just brought out an impulse grenade and threw it at the group behind him.

Another bad influence of video games, he may not have played the weird combination of PUBG and Minecraft but it did have some good ideas for grenades... He was still working on the grenade that made people dance. It was a work in progress.

They were close to the spaceship and hopefully, that would delay them for long enough.
