Clad in a baby blue suit, Ocean exited her house and set off for work. Her attention was attracted by a nice and cozy cafe on the other side of the road. She paid for her fare and alighted from the taxi.
She crossed the road and entered the cafe, the bell jingling to signify her presence. She placed an order for coffee and sat down to wait for it.
She had seen PAs buy their bosses coffee every morning and decided to do the same. She didn't even know her boss and here she was buying him coffee. She smiled at the irony. She paid for the beverage and left.
Entering the company, she was approached by the receptionist from yesterday who handed her her ID card. She wore it around her neck and was directed to the 37th floor.
There she met the Vice President's PA who filled her in on things to do. After a quick tour of the place, she finally headed to her boss's floor.
With her heart beating erratically, she knocked and after receiving no response she entered with the conclusion that he wasn't yet in.
She set his coffee on his table and headed for her office. She looked around in amazement. Her own office. A giggle slipped past her lips at the thought. She sat down in her chair and swiveled around.
She rearranged everything to her likeness and resumed her seat. With nothing to do, she played games on her phone and waited for her boss's call.
A buzzer sounded somewhere in the office and she got up and headed to her boss's office. She knocked and the door opened by itself. She entered the office and was met with an empty desk. But where was he?
A man emerged from the sitting area in the office and glared at her.
"What the fuck is that?" He pointed to the cup of coffee.
"Uhh... coffee?" Ocean replied, clueless about what was going on.
"Are you my new PA?" He asked humorlessly.
"Yes, Sir. It's nice to meet you." She said softly as she brought out her hand for a handshake.
He stared at her hand and rolled his eyes.
"Go get that shit you call coffee off my desk
and out of my office and bring me a new one in the next five minutes, remember 'no sugar'. Your time starts now ". He ordered and resumed his seat.
She took the coffee off his desk and got out of the office. She tasted the coffee and it tasted nice to her. What could be wrong with this coffee?
'Oh! He doesn't want sugar'. She thought.
Now how can she manage to get him coffee in the next four minutes? She rushed to the kitchen on the same floor and prepared him coffee, just the way her grandmother taught her. Tears clouded her eyes as she thought of her.
She wiped them away and returned to his office to give him the coffee.
He started at her reticently as she approached his desk and offered him the coffee.
He took a sip before placing it down. He entered something into his computer and stared at it for a while before looking at her.
"Contact the Vice president's PA. She will fill you in on my likes and dislikes. Listen carefully. I wouldn't mind firing you on your first day."
He said and diverted his attention to his table.
