It was Wednesday morning, and also the dullest Oliver had ever experienced. Ever since the start of the first lesson, he had not been concentrating. He had been in deep thought about last night's incidents. Even now that science class was going on, Oliver still couldn't pay any bit of attention to the teacher.
Oliver stayed up late almost the whole night, and that was actually becoming a major factor right now. The aftermath was strained aching eyes and dizziness.
He could not stop thinking about last night, and his conscience continued judging him the whole time. He could feel the guilt creeping up his legs, making him so uneasy.
He turned back, and his eyes met Jasper, already beaming with a wide grin as if expecting him all along to turn back.
Oliver could see his whole teeth clearly visible, and about a couple or so, missing. Oliver managed a faint smile.
"Some spacecraft, huh?" said Jasper, followed by a low chuckle.
Oliver's brows furrowed with puzzlement.
"Sorry. I don't think I got all of that," he said to Jasper.
Jasper simply motioned at the whiteboard that was hung far in front of the class, by raising a brow at it.
Oliver quickly faced the front and saw the teacher scrubbing something on the whiteboard. His eyes narrowed thoughtfully for the moment, as he struggled to make sense of her absurd drawing.
Oliver never really understood the drawing, and so did some other kids. No one actually understood the image on the board until a label in bold uppercase italics was inscribed underneath it- COSMO_CRAFT.
Cosmo crafts were hypersonic super space ships, which were specially designed to be used for space travel and battle by high-level astronauts called the space rangers.
The Space Rangers initiative was introduced as the zenith government institute and kick-started its operations eight and a half decades after the great purge, (The day recorded in history, as when certain beings known as the Celestials, redeemed the earth from the terrible rule of the Devil, and his bloodlust Demons).
The initiative was recognized among the members of the supreme within the first three years of the emergence of the ability books; the books in which the Celestials contained the demon abilities, before driving them away from the planet.
Just when humans were beginning to dwell in peace again, and when the war wounds sustained during the brutal battle against the demons were starting to heal, another problem emerged. Certain beings called the Darklings, came to the planet with intentions to conquer, invade, rule over, and take advantage of the resources of the human race.
After hearing rumors of the departure of the Devil from the earth, the Darklings decided to clarify if the rumors were actually true. Realizing the validity of the rumors, the Darklings saw it as a perfect opportunity to strike.
For some reason yet unknown, the Earth has been a major target and point of attraction by other neighboring realms and planets.
The Darklings were massive beast-like beings about 8-9 feet tall in average height. They possessed large bat-like wings for flight and arched razor-sharp claws.
The Darklings were extremely powerful creatures compared to humans, but we're not as powerful, or precisely, no match for the Demons before them. Apart from the Darklings being extremely powerful than the humans, they were also great warriors with outstanding combat skills. They were also super-intelligent beings with super technology that was way more advanced than Earth and way beyond the comprehension of humans.
The Darklings made use of the element of surprise to take on the humans unawares. This initial method of approach by the Darklings helped them gain the early advantage in the battle, wreaking havoc and causing much chaos that had never been witnessed before. It was indeed a brutal bloodbath.
Humans were really taken to their limits by the Darkling kind. They fought with all their might, capabilities, and resources, but their enemies still proved so powerful.
It was during the red-hot session of the war that the humans discovered the demon abilities granted to them by the Celestials in the form of books. They immediately got hold of the abilities, utilizing them to their advantage against the enemies. They knew that they had finally found something to rely on. The ability books were their last hope.
Initially in the war, the Darklings had the upper hand, but with the Demon abilities by their side, the humans were able to advance in the battle and even the odds.
Cutting the long story short, the heat of the war gradually began to dwindle, as the Darklings realized that the war was no longer a one-sided one. The battle was over soon. Human and Darkling kinds got fed up with the war and decided to settle their disputes, both coming to the conclusion that there would be no further threats or acts of violence from either group.
Humans and Darklings had been at peace ever since, but the vicious Darklings still could not be trusted. There have been several noticeable signs that an altercation might break out anytime in the future, and another war might emerge.
After the departure of the Darklings, there have been some other alien beings that on multiple occasions, attempted to invade Earth. Beings like the Dark Elves, Metalloids, Deviants... Etc. Because of all these external threats, the Space Rangers initiative was introduced with the main objective of keeping the battle far above and away from the Earth, thereby safeguarding the Earth, and reducing the rate of casualties and death.
The space rangers were granted access to the higher-ability books, but that wasn't the only reason why Oliver so much wanted to become one, there were other intentions he had.
