14th November, 2052. London, England.
The rainy morning has paved the way for a damp and cold evening, which soon paved the way for a colder night. The number of people on the streets have considerably decreased by the time it was 9 o' clock. The large, bright advertisements are illuminating the roads and pavements. Hovercars are hovering in the air, while some are hovering just a few inches above the road. When the advertisements are subsiding for a few minutes, the tall apartments and office buildings appear like huge, black demons standing menacingly against the pitch-black night sky.
A woman is walking down the pavement towards her apartment, tightly holding her black greatcoat with both of her gloved hands. She's tall, in her late twenties, with black hair and a pale skin (which is looking even more pale due to the cold atmosphere), a sharp face and a thin figure. She had a lot of work to finish in her office, which made her the last person to leave the office. The office where she works is perhaps one of the most well-known places where anyone would like to work: NewFace Organisation.
The woman finally arrives at her apartment building in Fleet Street and enters inside. Taking the lift, she reaches to her flat and, after rummaging her pockets, produces a bunch of keys, from which she selects a particular key, opens the door and enters in her flat. The flat door closes, showing her name: Fiona James.
Fiona sits down comfortably on a chair, keeps her bag down next to her and taps the right side of her head twice (which has an implanted phone) which opens a series of hologram messages. The hologram messages appear in front of her in black-yellow colours, and she selects the first one; a robotic voice echoes in her head as an audio message plays:
"CONGRATULATIONS FOR HANDLING OUR CLIENT! WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SERVICE! THE MONEY HAS BEEN DEPOSITED DIRECTLY INTO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT! THANK YOU, DR. JAMES."
The message ends and the hologram disappears, leaving the list of messages to reappear again. Fiona took a deep breath, switched off her implanted phone, and murmured to herself, 'Of course! This is my work, and I deserve to be congratulated.'
Her workplace, as said before, is NewFace Organisation. The organisation has a lot of branches, out of which, the branch in which Fiona specializes is: Memory Rejuvenation. Memory Rejuvenation works to regain the lost or forgotten memories of people who can't recall them. Fiona is the best one out of the small group of people who work under this branch. Within one year, she has become the best and the most sought-after person in the Memory Rejuvenation branch. In order to Rejuvenate someone's lost or forgotten memories, the person who does the Rejuvenation (referred to as a Doctor), at first injects a chip inside the person through the neck and then brings a wired headgear, connects it with the chip and places the headgear on the person's head. Then, with a selective combination of buttons, (Time, Age, Happy Or Sad?) the Doctor locates the gap in the memory part of the brain: hippocampus. This Doctor then works to improve the hippocampus with the chip-connected headgear and 'Rejuvenates' the lost memory. After that, a small therapy session is held to make sure whether the memory is entirely rejuvenated or whether it's not. If the therapy is a success, then the work done is a success and the required pay is directly to the Doctor's bank account. If the therapy is unsuccessful, then another meeting is scheduled for later time, for a more proper Rejuvenation.
Majority of the cases which Fiona has handled till today, have ended in success, with a few unsuccessful ones, which she later rectified with follow-up sessions. Even after having some failures, which occasionally stick out as sore thumbs, Fiona has made a name for herself. This has also earned her the occasional ire of her colleagues who aren't as good as her. But, all in all, Fiona is content with her life.
The next morning turned out to be as chilly as the night before. Wrapping herself tightly in her greatcoat, Fiona hurriedly left her apartment as she overslept and, without even waiting to take a hovertaxi, started walking briskly down the road towards her workplace. She has to be there on time, or else, who knows? Whether she'll lose a client to someone else, which will affect her punctuality and will show her as careless. But, little did she know what was waiting for her in NewFace.
