Chapter 22 Excerpt

The world around had gone silent. Nikolas noticed the wide eyed looks of his men, staring at what was going on behind him. Their looks were of fear, and confusion.

Slowly turning, Nikolas didn't know what to expect. He had felt the magic from Caspian countless times when the young man would change. Why was this different?

"Aye lad, tis for ye own good, I beg of ye not to make this difficult for me." He said, but stopped talking any further. Caspian was not listening. His head was tilted to the sky as orange smokey swirls started to engulf him. Suddenly, he changed, but not to the horse sized dragon he once was.

"GIT BACK, SHEILD IF YE CAN!" Nikolas yelled, his voice carrying to the ears of his men around him. Soldiers scrambled for the cover of their shields as others sought out thick pines to hide behind.

Caspian, had grown. The sound of snapping tree limbs filled the air as a high pitched roar bounced off their armor. The wings that were once only big enough to shield his body, now spread high, stuck within the trees, attempting to break loose.

Pine needles and bark flew everywhere as they scraped along the limbs. The dragons' iridescent scales glowed, lighting up the camp. His emotions couldn't be controlled any longer as Caspian fought with his body and suddenly spewed bright red and orange fire at Nikolas.

"Stand ye ground! He is just a lad, do not swing on him!" He bellowed to his men as he shielded himself, getting scorched at his ankles. The heat was too much and Nikolas backed up near a tree. Embers filled the camp. Sparks flew catching the trees shedding dead pine needles as Caspian attempted to move.

"Calm ye self, lad, tis me, Nikolas, not yer enemy. Calm down, so's we can talk!" Stumbling along his words, he tried yelling loud enough for Caspian to hear him. The dragon just shook his large head as his long neck coiled and uncoiled, he couldn't control his new size. His wings, large and broad showing deep blue veins running along the fiery orange paper thin serpent skin. He resembled a butterfly caught in a web, a web of trees.

"Oh, my, God!!!" Ally practically screamed, coming out of the tent. She had dozed off while Caspian was talking to her earlier, and was woken by the roars and branch's falling, threatening to crush the small tent.

"Get back woman!" Barreth yelled to her, standing at the other tent.

Caspians tail, almost twice the length of his body, flicked and stabbed at things around it. Barreth had already attempted to get it pinned down, but it was too much for him, tossing him in to the nearby bushes.

"Whats wrong with him? He really is Dragon!!" She yelled over the loud roars coming from Caspian.

"Tis the idea of leaving the Cap'n, me thinks, it got the lad pissed off!" Holding a thick branch, he batted at the tip of Caspians tail as it would make its way in his direction. He didn't want to hurt it, but he wasn't keen on dying at the moment either.

"CASPIAN, STOP! YOU ARE JUST THROWING A FIT! KEEP IT UP AND WHEN YOU TURN BACK TO..TO A CHILD, I WILL PUT YOU OVER MY KNEE AND SPANK YOU!!! I DON'T CARE, DRAGON OR NOT, YOU ARE ACTING LIKE A THREE YEAR OLD!!" Ally screamed at the top of her lungs for the dragon to hear her. Barreth stared dumbfounded at the women. The authority in her voice was just a tiny bit impressive.

Surprisingly, the dragon stopped moving. He stretched his long neck around his body, bringing his head to come face to face with Ally. She stood there, frozen. Caspians beautiful green swirling eyes, framed by long black curvy lashes, blinked at her. His nostrils flared, and she almost jumped. She would stand her ground though. She had already expected a tragic death once only days ago. This was the lesser evil of choices.

Using all her courage, and faking bravery, she lifted her hand and pointed at the dragon.

"I..I mean it kid, get your emotions under wraps, or there will..will be consequences. This is not how a young man acts!" She scolded him, wagging her finger in his face.

The dragon lout out a sad whimper, urging her to understand why he was angry, and hurting. Being a woman, the mother instincts had already kicked in.

"I know, I don't want you to leave either. I will have a talk with him. For now, you need to..shrink, or go back to being a kid, either way, you're too fricken huge for the place and causing way too much damage. Just calm down and think..small." She tempted fate, and reached out to rub the long wide thick spot between his eyes and his nostrils. His scales felt like satin, not slimy like she had assumed.
